  • In the present study, a laminar natural convection flow of $H_2O$-Cu nanofluid in a two dimensional enclosure has been investigated using a thermal lattice Boltzmann approach with the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model. The effect of suspended nanoparticles on the fluid flow and heat transfer process have been studied for different controlling parameters such as particle volume fraction ($\Phi$), Rayleigh number (Ra). For this investigation the Rayleigh number changes from 104 to 106 and volume fraction varied from 0 to 10% with three different particle diameters (dp), say 10 nm, 20 nm and 40 nm. It is shown that increasing the Rayleigh number (Ra) and the volume fraction of nanofluid causes an increase of the effective heat transfer rate in terms of average Nusselt number (Nu) as well as the thermal conductivity of nanofluid. On the other hand, increasing the particle diameter causes the decrease of the heat transfer rate and thermal conductivity. The result of the analysis are compared with experimental and numerical data both for pure and nanofluids and it is seen a relatively good agreement.

  • Effect of culture conditions on the fermentation of wheat flour solution by mixed lactic acid bacteria of Lactobacillus brevis, L. fermentum and L. plantarum was investigated. The optimum temperature for the fermentation of wheat flour solution was $35^{\circ}C$ because pH decreased the lowest value and TTA (total titrable acidity) increased the highest value at this temperature. In aerobic condition, fermentor was purged with air at 1.0 vvm and was purged with nitrogen gas at 1.0 vvm in anaerobic condition. The decrease of pH and the increase of TTA in aerobic condition were higher than those in anaerobic condition. In aerobic condition, the optimum condition of oxygen supply was found to be oxygen transfer rate coefficient of $60\;hr^{-1}$ which corresponded to agitation speed of 250 rpm in a 5 L fermentor. Repeated fed-batch cultures were performed using pH-stat in order to increase the productivity of fermented wheat flour. With increasing the repeated fraction of culture volume, mean cycle time increased but maximum operation time decreased. However, the volume of produced broth per culture volume per time and total volume of produced broth per culture volume were maximum at the repeated fraction of culture volume of 20%. In a repeated fed-batch fermentation of wheat flour solution using mixed lactic acid bacteria, the culture condition was optimum at temerature of $35^{\circ}C$, aeration rate of 1.0 vvm, oxygen transfer rate coefficient of $60\;hr^{-1}$, and repeated fraction of culture volume of 20%.

  • In the present study, investigations were carried out to obtain data on combustion characteristics of methane gas and hydrogen supplemented methane gas in a constant volume combustion chamber. The main results obtained from the study can be summarized as follows. The maximum combustion pressure increases as the initial pressure and hydrogen supplement rate increase, the total burning time is shorten by lowering the initial pressure and by increasing the hydrogen supplement rate. The maximum flame temperature and NO concentration increase by the initial pressure and hydrogen supplement rate increase. The flame propagation processes in near stoichiometric mixture are propagated with a spherical shape, but in excess rich or lean mixtures are propagated with a elliptical shape. And, they are changed an unstable elliptical shape flame with very regular cells by increasing the hydrogen supplement rate.

  • Mechanical properties and neutron shielding performance of concrete with amorphous boron steel fiber have been investigated in this study. The measurement of this investigation includes air contents, slump loss, compressive strength, flexural strength, flexural toughness and neutron shielding rate. Four different fiber volume fractions were selected ranging from 0.25% to 1.0% by volume for the amorphous boron steel fibers. The testing results showed that the flexural toughness and the neutron shielding rate were increase with the increase of volume fraction for amorphous boron steel fiber. Based on the result, it is concluded that the concrete with the amorphous boron steel fiber can be effectively applied to shield the neutron and to improve mechanical properties.

  • This research analyzed the basic characteristics of unhardened concrete and the compression strength characteristics of hardened concrete according to liquidity retention agent mix rate change to improve the liquidity fluidity retention performance of high performance concrete, and produced the following results. The moment fluidity retention agent is added according to fluidity retention agent mix rate change, which increased fluidity retention agent mix rate, slump flow decreased, and in the case of slump flow according to the progress time change by the fluidity retention agent mix rates, the more fluidity retention agent mix rate increased, the lower slump flow change rate became. The moment fluidity retention agent is added according to fluidity retention agent mix rate change, fluidity retention agent mix rate increased compared to non-mixture of fluidity retention agent, and the air amount by progress time change by the fluidity retention agent mix rates slightly increased, however target range is still met and unit volume mass is inversely proportional to air amount. Compression strength according to age progress by the fluidity retention agent mix rates was shown to increase slightly with increase in fluidity retention agent mix rate, and yet the difference was not significant.

  • Since it has been suggested that atrial receptor may be involved in the mechanism of extracellular volume regulation, it was shown that the granularity of atrial cardiocytes can be changed by water and salt depletion, and that an extract of cardiac atrial tissue, when injected intravenously into anesthetized rats, was shown to cause a large and rapid increase in renal excretion of sodium. Various natriuretic peptides were isolated and synthetized, and the effects were investigated by many workers. Most studies, however, have been carried out under anesthesia and there have teen some controversies over direct effect of the factor on the renal function. Therefore, it was attempted in this study to access the effects of an atrial extract and a synthetic natriuretic factor in unanesthetized rabbits. Intrarenal arterial infusion of atrial extract caused a rapid increase of urinary volume and excretion of sodium. Glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow were both increased with no change in filtration fraction. The ventricular extract produced no change in urinary excretion of electrolytes, nor in renal hemodynamics. Intrarenal infusion of synthetic atrial natriuretic factor caused increases of renal excretory rate of sodium, chloride and potassium, and $FE_{Na}$. Glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow increased. And free water clearance also increased. Accentuated excretory function correlated well with increased glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow during infusion and for 10 minutes following the cessation of the infusion. Renin secretion rate decreased during constant infusion of atrial natriuretic factor. However, no correlation was found with the changes in glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, or urinary excretion of sodium. These results suggest that atrial extract or atrial natriuretic factor induces changes in renal hemodynamics, as in excretion of electrolytes either indirectly through hemodynamic changes or directly by inhibiting tubular reabsorption. At the same time, renin secretory function is affected by the factor possibly through an unknown mechanism.

  • More than 95% of imports and exports in the World are being transported by vessels. In other words, marine transportation accounts for a large portion of share in the world trade. The purpose of this study is to analyze factors of seaborne trade volume according to items affecting on the world economy. This study conducted a linear regression analysis between seaborne trade volume and the world economy (world GDP) to estimate the correlation between them. Panel data analysis and random effects model analysis have been applied to examine the effect of seaborne trade volume. For this study, the seaborne trade volume is categorized into 10 items, and estimated how much global GDP will be affected when the trade volume changes. In addition, the granger causality test was conducted to verify the relationship between seaborne trade volume and the world GDP. As a result, seaborne trade volume and the world GDP were mutually influenced each other. However, seaborne trade volume affects the world economy more significantly. The items affecting world economic growth include petroleum products, crude oil, chemical products, and so on. The estimated value of the coefficients of petroleum products, crude oil and chemical products were 1.014, 1.013 and 1.010, respectively. The estimated value 1.014 of petroleum products means that the growth rate is 1.014 times higher than the current world GDP growth rate when the seaborne trade volume of petroleum products increased by one unit Lastly, this study examines the seaborne trade volume of 10 categories and then verifies whether the growth rate of world GDP will increase when the volume of seaborne trade increased. This study is expected to provide policy-makers with useful information about formulating policies related to international trade.

  • To improve mean-life and reliability of power cable, we have investigated volume resistivity and thermal conductivity showed by changing the content of acetylene black which is the component parts of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. The sheets were primarily kneaded in their pellet form material samples for 5 minutes on rollers ranging between 70[$^{\circ}C$] and 100[$^{\circ}C$]. Then they were produced as sheets after pressing for 20 minutes at 180[$^{\circ}C$] with a pressure of 200[kg/cm]. The content of conductive acetylene black was the variable, and their contents were 20, 30 and 40[wt%], respectively. Volume resistivity of specimens was measured by volume resistivity meter after 10 minutes in the preheated oven of both $25\pm1[^{\circ}C]$ and $90\pm1[^{\circ}C]$. Thermal conductivity was measured by Nano Flash Diffusivity. The measurement temperatures of thermal conductivity using Nano Flash Diffusivity were both 25[$^{\circ}C$] and 55[$^{\circ}C$]. From these experimental results, volume resistivity was high according to an increase of the content of acetylene black. And thermal conductivity was increased to an increase of the content of acetylene black. And thermal conductivity were increased by heating rate because volume of materials was expanded according to rise in temperature.

  • An experimental device was designed to control the opening of a damper via operating the folding blade drive of the device and to control the amount of air flowing through the damper. In addition, an inverter was installed in the blower to control its fan rotation speed and hence the amount of air flowing through the damper. An experimental study was conducted on the opening of the folding blade damper and changes in the rotational speed of the blower. From the results, the theoretical air volume of the folding blade damper and experimental air volume were observed to be in good agreement within an error range of ±3%. As the mass flow rate of the air passing through the folding blade damper increases proportionally with the changes in damper opening and fan rotation speed, the performance of the damper can be controlled proportionally. The mass flow rate was also observed to increase linearly; therefore, the mass flow rate of the air passing through the folding blade damper increases proportionally with changes in the rotation speed of the blower, such that the performance of the damper is proportional to a constant air volume even with varying rotation speeds of the blower.

  • Submicron colloidal silica coated with ceria were prepared by mixing of silica and nano ceria particles and modified by hydrothermal reaction. The polishing efficiency of the ceria coated silica slurry was tested over oxide film on silicon wafer. By changing the polishing pressure in the range of $140{\sim}420g/cm^2$ with the ceria coated silica slurries in $100{\sim}300nm$, rates, WIWNU and friction force were measured. The removal rate was in the order of 200, 100, and 300 nm size silica coated with ceria. It was known that the smaller particle size gives the higher removal rate with higher contact area in Cu slurry. In the case of oxide film, the indentation volume as well as contact area gives effect on the removal rate depending on the size of abrasives. The indentation volume increase with the size of abrasive particles, which results to higher removal rate. The highest removal rate in 200 nm silica core coated with ceria is discussed as proper combination of indentation and contact area effect.
