Effects of Climate Change on Whitening Event Proliferation the Coast of Jeju (제주연안에서 기후변화가 갯녹음 확산에 미치는 영향)

  • The study is intended to investigate the proliferation of whitening, the impact of climate change (sea temperature rise) on the proliferation of whitening, and the reproduction and growth of crustose coralline algae, which causes the whitening, in the coast of Jeju Island. The size of the whitening-affected area in the coast of Jeju was 2,931ha in 1998 and increased to 4,541ha in 2003. The whitening occurred mainly in the southern coast of Jeju in 1998 but spread across the whole coast of Jeju by 2003, except in the coast of Jocheon-eup (eup refers to an administrative district in Korea) and Gujwa-eup. The average sea water temperature in February from 1992 to 2004 was $15.1^{\circ}C$ in the whitening affected area and $13.9^{\circ}C$ in the marine forest area, showing a clear difference, but there was no difference in the average temperature in August. The long-term (37-year period) average of the sea temperature was $15.3^{\circ}C$ in the whitening affected area and $14.1^{\circ}C$ in the marine forest area, showing $1.2^{\circ}C$ higher in the whitening area. The annual rate of sea temperature rise was $0.038^{\circ}C$ in the whitening area and $0.024^{\circ}C$ in the marine forest area, indicating the higher long-term variation of sea temperature in the water affected by whitening. The results indicate that the continuous increase in winter water temperature due to climate change is expanding proliferation of whitening in the Jeju island.

Adaptive Multi-Tap Equalization for Removing ICI Caused by Transmitter Power Transient in LTE Uplink System (LTE 상향 링크 시스템에서 송신기의 전력 과도 현상에 의해 발생하는 ICI를 제거하기 위한 적응적 멀티 탭 등화 기법)

  • This paper studies a method for reducing performance degradation due to losing sub-carrier orthogonality caused by power transient between physical channels in LTE uplink transmission. The pattern of inter-carrier interference(ICI) caused by power transient is different from what has been studied for doppler shift, in that its pattern occurs at front and rear sides of channels in each period of power transient. The reason of ICI's occurrence results from power difference between channels, power transient duration, multi-path channel delay spread, and numbers of sub-carrier. New criterion is proposed to find out number of taps of multi-tap equalizer enough to improve the ICI. The scheme is to determine the number of taps of multi-tap equalizer when a normalized interference or a normalized ICI is greater than a normalized noise. Simulation results show that the number of taps is flexibly adjusted according to SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of a received signal to improve Bit Error Rate(BER), while the complexity of the proposed scheme is reduced down to 88 percentage of the classical method.

  • A design thinking-based collaborative workshop in which various stakeholders in the milk processing industry circulation ecosystem participated shows a new problem innovation paradigm that encourages the spread of practical prototyping culture. in the expression of empathy and collective intelligence among members on facing issues, the conversion of collaboration and communication methods, the business handling of the organization based on the design work method as 'creativity mechanism'. In this workshop, which was promoted in three stages of 'approach to problems', 're-definition of problems', and 'experience-based future vision design', participants themselves redefine real problems in terms of the accuracy of feed orders between feed suppliers and livestock farmers, ordering of feeds on time, cost reduction of feed supply and present new alternatives and expanded business areas. The results suggested in this workshop suggest the usefulness of design thinking in business innovation in that they presented how to approach the problem and a creative thinking system to find its solution to direct and indirect stakeholders of the industry as well as the improvement of supply and demand rate of livestock feed and quality.

Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Properties of Cookies Supplemented with Taraxacum coreanum Powder (흰 민들레 분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 및 산화방지 활성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics and antioxidant properties of cookies supplemented with 2~8% (w/w) Taraxacum coreanum powder (TCP). The pH and moisture content of cookie dough decreased significantly (P<0.05) while density was not influenced significantly by increasing levels of TCP. The spread ratio and loss rate of cookies increased significantly with increasing levels of TCP (P<0.05). Lightness, redness, and yellowness decreased significantly with higher amount of TCP (P<0.05). The use of TCP significantly increased hardness of cookies while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activities were significantly elevated (P<0.05). The consumer acceptance test indicated that addition of 2% TCP had a favorable effect on consumer preferences in all attributes. Based on overall observations, cookies with 2% TCP can take advantage of the functional properties of TCP without sacrificing consumer acceptability.

Environmental risk assessment of genetically modified Herbicide-Tolerant zoysiagrass (Event: Jeju Green21) (제초제저항성 들잔디(Zoysia japonica Steud.) 이벤트 Jeju Green21의 환경위해성평가)

  • Transgenic zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) expressing the bar gene inserted in the plant genome has been generated previously through Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. The GM zoysiagrass (event: JG21) permits efficient management of weed control of widely cultivated zoysiagrass fields, reducing the frequency and cost of using various herbicides for weed control. Now we have carried out the environmental risk assessment of JG21 prior to applying to the governmental regulatory agency for the commercial release of the GM turf grass outside of test plots. The morphological phenotypes, molecular analysis, weediness and gene flow from each test plot of JG21 and wild-type zoysiagrasses have been evaluated by selectively analyzing environmental effects. There were no marked differences in morphological phenotypes between JG21 and wild-type grasses. The JG21 retained its stable integration in the host plant in T1 generation, exhibiting a 3:1 segregation ratio according to the Mendelian genetics. We confirmed the copy number (1) of JG21 by using Southern blot analysis, as the transgenic plants were tolerant to ammonium glufosinate throughout the culture period. From cross-fertilization and gene flow studies, we found a 9% cross-pollination rate at the center of JG21 field and 0% at distances over 3 m from the field. The JG21 and wild-type zoysiagrass plants are not considered "weed" because zoysiagrasses generally are not dominant and do not spread into weedy areas easily. We assessed the horizontal gene transfer (HGT) of the transgene DNA to soil microorganisms from JG21 and wild-type plants. The bar gene was not detected from the total genomic DNA extracted from each rhizosphere soil of GM and non-GM Zoysia grass fields. Through the monitoring of JG21 transgene's unintentional release into the environment, we found no evidence for either pollen mediated gene flow of zoysiagrass or seed dispersal from the test field within a 3 km radius of the natural habitat.

  • In order to increase the self-reliance rate of new and renewable energy in order to respond to the mandatory domestic zero-energy buildings, the taller the building, the more limited the site area, and installing PV modules on the roof is not enough. Therefore, BIPV (Building integrated photovoltaic, hereinafter BIPV) is the industry receiving the most attention as a core energy source that can realize zero-energy buildings. Therefore, this study conducted a survey on the problems of the BIPV industry in a self-discussing method for experts with more than 10 years of experience of designers, builders, product manufacturers, and maintainers in order to suggest the right direction and revitalize the BIPV industry. Industrial problems of BIPV adjustment are drawn extention range of standard and certification for products, range improvement for current small condition of various kind productions, need to revise standards for capable of accomodating roof-type, color-module and louver-module, necessary of barrier in flow of foreign modules into korea through domestic certification mandatory, difficulty in obtaining BIPV information, request to prevent confusion among participants by exact guidelime about architectural application part of BIPV, and lack of the BIPV definition clearness, support policy, etc. Based on the improvements needed for the elements, giving change and competitiveness impacts aims to present and propose counter measures and direction.

Identification of Chrysanthemum Genetic Resources Resistant to Chrysanthemum Stunt Viroid (CSVd) (국화왜화바이로드 저항성 국화 유전자원 선발)

  • Chrysnathemum stunt viroid (CSVd), a small, single-stranded, infectious RNA, has caused a severe problem in chrysanthemum in the world. In Korea, since CSVd was firstly observed in 1997, the disease has been spread throughout the whole country rapidly. In spite of the seriousness, few methods for control of CSVd have been known without prevention. The use of resistant cultivars is one of the most efficient approaches for overcoming CSVd disease in chrysanthemum cultivation. This study was carried out to identify chrysanthemum genetic resources for the resistance to chrysanthemum stunt viroid (CSVd). A total of 192 commercial cultivars including 167 spray and 25 standard chrysanthemum were screened with CSVd through grafting inoculation method. In most of the inoculated cultivars, typical disease symptoms, stunting of plant height, reduced flower size, and flower color bleaching, were induced. Several cultivars, however, were symptomless or showed delay in symptom expression. Of 192 chrysanthemum cultivars, two cultivars with less than 5% of the average reduction rate of plant height, 'Chiwerel' and 'Jeongheungdaesin', were rated as resistant. And six cultivars less than 20% inculding 'Inga' were rated as moderate resistant. The remaining 184 cultivars with a high level of reduction were rated as susceptible. We expect that these genetic resources can be used in crossbreeding programs for developing CSVd resistant cultivars of chrysanthemum.

Quality Characteristics of Cookies Prepared with Flour Partly Substituted by Used Coffee Grounds (커피추출 잔여물을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 특성)

  • We investigated the quality characteristics of cookies prepared after addition of various concentrations of used coffee grounds (0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%, all w/w) as a substitute for flour. As coffee grounds concentration rose, decrease in the pH of cookie dough was evident. In terms the water-holding capacity of dough, cookies prepared 3% (w/w) coffee grounds yielded the highest value. With an increase in coffee grounds concentration, the color a value rose, but the L and b values fell. The gelatinization temperature became higher, but both peak viscosity and 15 min-height values declined. The spread and loss ratios decreased but the leavening rate rose significantly with elevation of coffee grounds concentration. The hardness of cookies rose but slightly, as coffee grounds concentration rose. Upon sensory evaluation of all of appearance, flavor, and overall preference, cookies prepared with addition of used coffee grounds were superior to those without grounds, whereas those prepared using 1%-3%(w/w) coffee grounds showed the highest overall acceptability. Thus cookies made using coffee grounds can be economically competitive. In addition, the ingredients of coffee powder and used coffee grounds were shown to be very similar, except that coffee grounds contain 15-fold less caffeine than dose coffee powder. As health concerns are popular today, the use of coffee grounds to manufacture processed food may be acceptable.

  • Based on the successful use of chatbot technology, this study examined what business values each company is creating. The chatbot service contributes to improving the productivity of the company by helping to answer or respond to the questions of employees inside the company or customers. And in the field of education, Instead of instructor, AI technology responds the questions and feedback of the students to reduce the work of the instructor. In the field of commerce, offline stores provide convenient and new purchasing experiences to customers by providing product purchasing services through artificial intelligence speakers and personalization service. Although chatbot service is creating business value in some business cases, it is still limited to the process of a specific company, and the spread rate is still slowing because the service scope, convenience, and usefulness are not greater than expected. Therefore, some chatbot development service providers is providing an integrated development platform to improve usability, Chatbots have the features and advantages of providing convenience instead of answering human questions. However, there is a disadvantage that the level of communication can be lowered by reducing various human subjective views and giving mainly objective answers. Through this study, we will discuss the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of chatbot services by comparing them.

The Analysis of Optical Quality in Central Serous Chorioretinopathy by OQAS (OQAS를 이용한 중심장액성맥락망막병증의 광학적 질 분석)

  • Purpose: The present study was aimed to investigate the change of optical quality in fully cured eyes from central serous chorioretionopathy(CSC) and CSC under treatment, respectively. Methods: A total of 136 eyes(68 subjects) was divided into CMC under treatment and its asymptomatic contralateral eye, fully cured eyes after being diagnosed with CMC and its contralateral eye, and normal eyes. Objective scattering index, cut-off value in modulation transfer function, focusing rate, PSF(Point Spread Function) width at 50%, 10% and the contrast sensitivity were measured and analyzed. Results: CMC under treatment showed statistically significant decrease in all evaluations of optical quality compared with asymptomatic contralateral eyes, fully cured eyes and normal eyes. Although there was no significant difference in optical quality between asymptomatic contralateral eyes of CMC under treatment and fully cured eyes, there was tendence in optical quality decreasing compared with normal eyes. Conclusions: From the study, it was revealed that the optical quality was different according to the treatment phase in CMC. The use of optical quality assessment for the decision of complete cure and the evaluation of prognosis in CMC is also proposed.
