  • Lightweight concrete is currently used at apartment buildings or housing construction sites causes some uneconomical problems due to excessive cracks and subsidences. So, it is in the situation that it is necessary to set up countermeasures against such subsidences. Therefore, in this study, it is intended to analyze the prevention of a subsidence inducing the expansion of the aluminum components depending on the changes of substitution rate and bubble mixing ratio by using the bubble-based Leavening Agent that Aluminum slag as an industrial by-product is substituted into some desulfurized plaster. As the results, it was found that the blending ratios, such as, the substitution ratio of bubble-based leavening agent (1%) and the bubble mixing ratio (65%) are appropriate while the flow property, subsidence depth and compression strength are considered.

  • Respond time and processing rate representing how many tasks can be done during an unit time in a client/server environment are generally use for measuring the performance of computers. In this paper, we suggest a window buffer managing scheme based on a window with many of short-term sliced slots where a media stream is allocated and deallocated into them so that it can maximize the utilization ration of the limited buffer on a multimedia server. And we also propose a buffer substitution scheme for reducing I/O times of a multimedia server by counting re-reference time point about a used block and then it can be reused by the next consecutive media stream.

  • A mixture preparation strategy was proposed and evaluated in a diesel-natural gas dual-fuel engine to reduce hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions under low load conditions. An experimental investigation was conducted in a single-cylinder compression-ignition engine. Natural gas was supplied with air during the intake stroke, and diesel was injected directly into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. First, effects of diesel start of energizing (SOE) and natural gas substitution ratio on the combustion and exhaust gas emissions were analyzed. Based on the results, the mixture preparation strategy was established. A low natural gas substitution ratio and a high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate were effective in reducing the HC and CO emissions.

Performance of the Road Network with Market Penetration Rates and Traffic Volumes of Autonomous Vehicle using Traffic Simulation (시뮬레이션 기반 자율주행자동차 혼입률과 교통량 변화에 따른 도로 네트워크의 성능 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of the road network according to the penetration rate of autonomous vehicles (AV) of Level 4 or higher and the change in traffic volume. First, prior studies related to vehicle control variables of AV were reviewed, and future traffic demand in 2040, which is predicted to have a 50 % market share of AVs, was reflected in the simulation analysis. In addition, the change in traffic flow of continuous and intermittent flows was analyzed by increasing the AV market penetration rate and traffic volume of passenger cars, trucks, and buses by 25 % step by step from 0 to 100 %. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the travel time increased as the traffic increased, and the pattern of decreasing the travel time due to the increase in the share of AVs, that is, the development of technology, can also be confirmed. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the traffic speed showed a trend of increasing as the share of AVs increased. In this study, it was confirmed that the law of diminishing marginal rate of substitution (MRS) was satisfied by calculating the MRS according to the combination of traffic volume and speed while increasing the market penetration rate of AVs. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the convexity of the indifference curve was also satisfied in both intermittent and continuous traffic flow environments.

Characteristics of Tissue Dose of High Dose Rate Ir-192 Source Substitution for Co-60 Brachytherapy Source (코발트-60 선원 대체용 고선량률 Ir-192 선원의 조직선량특성)

  • To achieve the 2D dose distribution around the designed high dose rate Ir-192 source substitution for Co-60 brachytherapy source, we determined the exposure rate constant and tissue attenuation factors as a large depth as a 20 cm from source center. The exposure rate constant is used for apparent activity in designed source with self-absorption and encapsulation steel wall. The tissue dose delivered from the 4401 segments of 2.5 mm in a diameter and 2.5 mm height of disk-type source layer. In the experiments, the tissue attenuation factors include the tissue attenuation and multiple scattering in a medium surrounding the source. The fitted the polynomial regression with 4th order for the tissue attenuation factors are very closed to the experimental measurement data within ${\pm}$1% discrepancy. The Meisberger's constant showed the large uncertainty in large distance from source. The exposure rate constant 4.69 Rcm$^2$/mCi-hr was currently used for determination of apparent activity of source and air kerma strength was obtained 0.973 for tissue absorbed dose from the energy spectrum of Ir-192 source. In our experiments with designed high dose rate brachytherapy source, the apparent activity of Ir-192 source was delivered from the 54.6 % of actual physical source activity through the self-absorption and encapsulation wall attenuations. This paper provides the 2-dimensional dose tabulation from unit apparent activity in a water medium for dose planning includes the multiple scattering, source anisotropy effect and geometric factors.

Effects of Replacement of Fish Meal by Soy Protein Isolate on the Growth, Digestive Enzyme Activity and Serum Biochemical Parameters for Juvenile Amur Sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii)

  • An 8-wk experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of replacing fish meal (FM) with soy protein isolate (SPI) on the growth, digestive enzyme activity and serum biochemical parameters of juvenile Amur sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii). SPI was used to replace 0, 25, 50, 62.5, 75, 87.5, 100% of dietary FM and 100% replacement supplemented crystalline amino acid. Healthy sturgeon with an average initial weight of $26.38{\pm}0.24$ g were randomly assigned to 24 aquaria (8 treatments with triplicates each) at an initial stocking density of 11 fish per aquarium and cultured for 8 wks. The results showed that 75.00% or more substitution resulted in a poor weight gain rate, feed conversion ratio and survival rate compared to that of fish fed the control diet (p<0.05), whereas no significant differences were observed between diets of 25.00% to 62.50% substitution. Protease, lipase and amylase activity in foregut, mid-gut and hindgut were significantly (p<0.05) decreased by diets where SPI replacement levels were 62.50% or more. Levels of serum total protein (TP) and globulin decreased significantly from 21.03, 10.34 to 14.05, 5.63 g/L with the increasing dietary SPI (p<0.05), but alkaline phosphatase activity significantly increased (p<0.05). In addition, supplemental crystalline amino acid in the FM absence diet did not improve growth performance, intestine digestive enzyme activities and serum biochemical parameters. In conclusion, the results from this study showed adverse effects of inclusion of SPI in diets on growth performance, feed utilization and serum biochemical parameters in juvenile Amur sturgeon. Based on WGR and replacement ratio presented in this report, a 57.64% replacement level was recommended.

  • Competition between air transportation and railways has grown fiercer in major countries around the world with the rise of high-speed railways. In South Korea, air passenger travel has been rapidly decreasing since the initial launch of the Seoul-Pusan KTX line in 2004 and second opening that followed in 2010. Further expansion of the high-speed railway is expected. At present, research efforts to verify the validity of constructing an underwater express railway tunnel between Ho-nam and Jeju Island are taking place. Considering the possible high speed railway connection between Seoul and Jeju Island, this thesis has analyzed the choice behavior of existing passengers of the major and low-cost carriers. For this, Stated Preference (SP) research has been performed for three variables, including fare, travel time and the number of runs, to estimate the substitution rate of each of the three variables. Binomial Logit Model has been estimated with the obtained data. The estimation of the model has found that airline passengers of major and low-cost carriers are willing to pay approximately 7,200 KRW and 5,000 KRW, respectively, to reduce travel time by one hour. If the number of runs in one day increases, it has been estimated that the passengers are willing to pay additional fares of about 390 KRW and 30 KRW, respectively. On the other hand, the substitution rate between the number of runs and the travel time was found to be somewhat insignificant. If the construction of the Seoul-Jeju line progresses in the future, this study could be used as preliminary data for determining fares, travel time and the number of runs.

The Degree of Hydration and Mechanical Properties of High Volume Fly Ash Cement (하이볼륨 플라이애시 시멘트의 수화도 및 역학적 특성)

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in reducing greenhouse gases in all industrial fields. In the construction industry, studies have been conducted for the use of high-volume fly ash concrete to replace cement with fly ash. Quantitative measurements of cement hydration and fly ash reactivity enable a clear understanding of the strength development mechanism of high-volume fly ash concrete. It is very difficult to describe the reactivity in a simple way because the hydration and pozzolanic reactions of cement paste containing fly ash are very complex and the composition of the hydration product cannot be accurately determined. This study investigated the hydration and mechanical properties of high volume fly ash (HVFA) cement according to the substitution rate of fly ash (FA). The hydration degree of cement and the reactivity of FA were evaluated through the selective dissolution method and the non-evaporable water content of the paste according to age. In addition, compressive strength was measured using HVFA mortar specimens according to age. As a result of the experiment, as the substitution rate of fly ash increased, the hydration degree of cement increased, but the reactivity of FA decreased.

Origin of the α-Effect in Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions of Y-Substituted Phenyl Benzoates with Butane-2,3-dione Monoximate and Z-Substituted Phenoxides: Ground-State Destabilization vs. Transition-State Stabilization

  • Second-order rate constants (k$_{Nu–}$) have been measured for nucleophilic substitution reactions of Y-substituted phenyl benzoates (1a-i) with butane-2,3-dione monoximate ($Ox^-\;an\;\alpha$-nucleophile) and Z-substituted phenoxides in 80 mol% H$_2$O/20 mol% DMSO at 25.0${\pm}$0.1$^{\circ}C$. Hammett plots correlated with ${\sigma}^o$ and ${\sigma}^-$ constants for reactions of 1a-h with Ox$^–$ exhibit many scattered points. In contrast, the Yukawa-Tsuno plot results in a good linear correlation with ${\rho}_Y$ = 2.20 and r = 0.45, indicating that expulsion of the leaving group occurs in the rate-determining step (RDS). A stepwise mechanism with expulsion of the leaving-group being the RDS has been excluded, since Y-substituted phenoxides are less basic and better nucleofuges than Ox$^–$. Thus, the reactions have been concluded to proceed through a concerted mechanism. Ox$^–$ is over 10$^2$ times more reactive than its reference nucleophile, 4-chlorophenoxide (4-ClPhO$^–$). One might suggest that stabilization of the transition-state (TS) through intramolecular general acid/base catalysis is responsible for the ${\alpha}$-effect since such general acid/base catalysis is not possible for the corresponding reactions with 4-ClPhO$^–$. However, destabilization of the ground-state (GS) of Ox$^–$ has been concluded to be mainly responsible for the ${\alpha}$-effect found in this study on the basis of the fact that the magnitude of the ${\alpha}$-effect is independent of the nature of the substituent Y.

Metal Ion Catalysis and Inhibition in Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions of 4-Nitrophenyl Nicotinate and Isonicotinate with Alkali Metal Ethoxides in Anhydrous Ethanol

  • A kinetic study is reported on nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4-nitrophenyl nicotinate 5 and isonicotinate 6 with alkali metal ethoxide EtOM (M = K, Na, and Li) in anhydrous ethanol at $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. Plots of pseudo-first-order rate constant $k_{obsd}$ vs. EtOM concentration exhibit upward curvature for the reactions of 5 and 6 with EtOK and EtONa but are almost linear for those with EtOLi. Dissection of $k_{obsd}$ into $k_{EtO^-}$ and $k_{EtOM}$ (i.e., the second-order rate constant for the reaction with dissociated $EtO^-$ and ion-paired EtOM, respectively) has shown that $k_{EtOK}$ ${\geq}$ $k_{EtONa}$ > $k_{EtO^-}$ but $k_{EtOLi}$ < $k_{EtO^-}$. It has been concluded that $K^+$ and $Na^+$ ions catalyze the reactions by increasing the electrophilicity of the carbonyl carbon atom through formation of a 4-membered cyclic transition state $TS_3$ or $TS_4$. However, $M^+$ ion catalysis has been found to be much less significant for the reactions of 5 and 6 than for the corresponding reactions of 4-nitrophenyl picolinate 4, which was reported to proceed through a 5-membered cyclic transition state $TS_2$. Although 5 and 6 are significantly more reactive than 4-nitrophenyl benzoate 3, the reactions of 5 and 6 result in smaller $k_{EtOK}/k_{EtO^-}$ ratios than those of 3. The electron-withdrawing ability of the nitrogen atom in the acyl moiety of 5 and 6 has been suggested to be responsible for the increase in reactivity and the decrease in the $k_{EtOK}/k_{EtO^-}$ ratio.
