  • This research aims at the recovery of valuable resource and more efficient waste treatment through solving the problem of pyrolysis technique. At first, in order to raise the economical efficiency, the low temperature pyrolysis experiment was carried out at the temperature of $450^{\circ}C$, which is lower than the common pyrolysis temperature area ($500{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$). We could lower the reaction temperature and reduce the reaction time by using catalyst. Also we used indirect heat for the purpose of maintaining favorable anoxic condition. As a result, we could raise the recovery rate of the valuable copper and synthetic fuel oil. Furthermore, the by-products and flue gas could be treated more effectively as well. The flue gas passed through two stage neutralization tank, so that dioxin hardly occurs and other environment items are controlled fairly well to the environmental standard. Throughout this study, we produced the low temperature pyrolysis equipment (GTPK-001) as mentioned above, and we found out that the technique can be commercialized economically as well as environmentally friendly.

  • The influence of deposition parameters on the deposition of $SnO_2$ thin films by spray pyrolysis has been studied. In the case of spray solution with tile concentration of 0.01M, at low deposition temperature the deposition was controlled by surface reaction and portion controlled by mass transfer is increased with increasing deposition temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. Above $400^{\circ}C$, the deposition is controlled by mass transfer at low spray pressure, and by surface reaction at high spray pressure. As the concentration of spray solution increased the deposition rate increased, and in this experiment the deposition depends on the Rideal-Eley mechanism. The deposition rate increased with increasing substrate temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$ and then decreased due to homogeneous nucleation. The thickness of the deposit increased with increasing spray duration, and the adhesion between substrate and deposit was formed physically.

  • The carbonization behaviors of CFRP fabricated with 2D-woven fabric and matrix phenolic resin have been studied. The changes in dimension were observed in the temperature range of 365-37$0^{\circ}C$ in the thickness direction, 118-12$0^{\circ}C$ in the normal direction each other by TMA analysis. Observation with the optical microscope shows that the formed cracks and pores during the fabrication of CFRP were propagated with the increase of pyrolysis temperaure. New cracks and pores were formed in the pyrolysis temperature range of 400-50$0^{\circ}C$ In line with the formation and propagation of cracks, porosity was increased and density was decreased rapidly in the pyrolysis temperature range of from 40$0^{\circ}C$ to 70$0^{\circ}C$. Therefore heating rate in the carbonization process need to be controlled carefully by intervals.

  • This study has a different direction from the existing technology of applying recycled carbon fiber obtained by recycling waste CFRP to CFRP again. A study was conducted to utilize recycled carbon fiber as a raw material for manufacturing a carbon/carbon (C/C) composite material comprising carbon as a matrix. First, it was attempted to recycle a commonly used epoxy resin composite material through a thermal decomposition process. By applying the newly proposed oxidation-inert atmosphere conversion technology to the pyrolysis process, the residual carbon rate of 1~2% was improved to 19%. Through this, the possibility of manufacturing C/C composite materials utilizing epoxy resin was confirmed. However, in the case of carbon obtained by the oxidation-inert atmosphere controlled pyrolysis process, the degree of oxygen bonding is high, so further improvement studies are needed. In addition, short-fiber C/C composite material specimens were prepared through the crushing and disintegrating processes after thermal decomposition of waste CFRP, and the optimum process conditions were derived through the evaluation of mechanical properties.

  • New precursor solution with dichloroacetic acid (DCA) was developed for fabricating high $J_c$ REBCO film. DCA based-precursor solution was coated on $LaAlO_3$(001) substrate by dip coating method. Processing parameters such as oxygen partial pressure, water vapor, ramping rate and pyrolysis temperature were controlled in order to obtain a good epitaxial film. The film with thickness of 0.5 micrometer was obtained by single coating and no crack was observed at calcined films. Oxygen partial pressure was controlled in the range of $100{\sim}1,000$ ppm and conversion heat treatment was carried out at the temperature range of $705-765^{\circ}C$. A critical transition temperature ($T_c$) of 90 K and a critical transport current density ($J_c$) of $>0.5\;MA/cm^2$ (77 K and self-field) were obtained for the GdBCO film. It is thought that fluorine-free MOD solution using DCA is promising precursor solution for fabricating high quality REBCO films.

  • Constructed wetlands are established efficient technologies and provide sustainable solution for wastewater treatment. Similarly, biochar, which is an organic material, produced by means of pyrolysis, offers simple and low cost techniques to treat water and reduce carbon footprint. Combining both of these technologies can greatly augment the efficiency of the system. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of constructed wetlands by using biochar as media. Horizontal wetland beds with dimension ($1m{\times}0.33m{\times}0.3m$) were prepared using gravels and biochar, and cultivated with the Canna species. Synthetic wastewater was passed through these beds with average flow rate of $1.2{\times}10^{-7}m^3/sec$ achieving a retention time of three days. Pollutant removal performance was compared between the controlled and experimental wetland beds. This study reveals that the wetland with biochar were more efficient as compared to the wetland with gravels alone with average removal rate of 91.3% COD, 58.3% TN, 58.3% $NH_3$, 92% $NO_3-N$, 79.5% TP, and 67.7% $PO_4$.

  • Various organic acid were used in order to prepare new metalorganic deposition solution for high quality $REBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (RE=Y, Eu, Gd) films. Prepared fluorine free MO precursor solution was coated on single crystal (001) $LaAlO_3$ (LAO) by dip coating method. Processing parameters such as oxygen partial pressure, water vapor, ramping rate and pyrolysis temperature etc havebeen controlled in order to make high $J_c$ films with a good epitaxial relationship with substrate. 0.5 micron-thick film was obtained by single coating and no crack appeared after calcination. Oxygen partial pressure was varied in the range of $100{\sim}1,000 ppm$ and conversion heat treatment was carried out at the temperature of $725{\sim}765^{\circ}C$. A critical transition temperature $(T_{c0})$ of 90K and a critical transport current density $(J_c)$ of $>0.5MA/cm^2$ (77K and self-field) were demonstrated for the YBCO film on (001) oriented LAO substrates with a thickness of 0.5 micron. $I_c$ was determined by utilizing a transport measurement. SEM and XRD investigations confirmed that films were grown epitaxially onto the LAO single crystal substrate. It is thought that fluorine free new MOD solutionis promising for high quality REBCO films.

  • Ceramic fiber separator is the promising material for thermal battery system because it reduces the production cost and offers the potential to a new application compared to a pellet type electrolyte. The electrolyte separator for thermal battery should be easily handled and loaded a large amount of the molten lithium salt. Ceramic fibers were used as an electrolyte separator and the lithium based molten salts were infiltrated into the ceramic filters. Leakage of molten salt (several lithium salts) leads to short-circuit during the thermal battery operation. In this study, a uniform and fine SiOC mat with fibers ranging from 1 to 3 ${\mu}m$ was obtained by electrospinning of polycarbosilane and pyrolysis. The optimum spinning conditions for obtaining fine diameters of SiOC fiber were controlled by the solution composition and concentration, applied voltage and spinning rate, release rate by porosity. The pore structures of the ceramic filter and the melting properties of the lithium salts affected to the electrolyte loading and leakage. The importance of the fiber size and porosity and their control was discussed and the mechanical properties were also discussed.

  • The plasma polymerized styrene films were prepared by using an inter-electrode capacitively coupled gas-flow-type reactor, and the effects of plasma polymerization condition on the molecular weight distribution were investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography(PyGC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Gel Permeation Chromatography(GPC). From the above results, the very cross-linked films different from chemical characteristics of the starting monomer were taken out, and it is realized that the molecular structure, cross linking density, and molecular weight distribution could be controlled by changing the parameters such as deposition pressure, deposition power and gas flow rate. Accordingly, it is suggested that plasma polymerization method performed by inter-electrode capacitively coupled gas-flow-type reactor has good characteristics for manufacturing the functional organic thin films which can be applied in sensors, opto-electric device, photo-resist by changing the polymerization parameters.
