  • The Injection molding is used more than 70% of total production in plastic products. The injection molding process has 4 processes such as filling, packing, cooling and ejecting. now then, cooling process spends the most of times in Injection molding cycle time. Therefore, it is important to control the mold temperature in producing plastic products. The cooling system and time affect the product's quality and productivity. Especially, cooling time has about 60% of total injection cycle time. Therefore, we can improve a productivity by shortening cooling time. In this study, the rapid cooling system was developed and performed a efficiency test. This system could refrigerate coolant to $1^{\circ}C$ and had to need 10 minutes for normal operating.

  • In the present study, low-temperature low-pressure refrigerant storage method is proposed to achieve higher cooling capacity during a short period of time than that of a compressor in steady operation. Experimental apparatus was designed and set up to analyze the performance of the new-conceptual cooling system. Two reservoirs for sequential storage of refrigerant were used in the cooling system. Several on/off solenoid valves were installed for control of refrigerant flow. From the experimental results, the initial rapid cooling by low temperature low-pressure refrigerant storage method was ascertained for successful operation. This rapid cooling methodology shall be useful for other low-capacity refrigeration system.

  • Rapid mold heating has been recent issue to enable the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Induction heating is an efficient way to heat a conductive workpiece by means of high-frequency electric current caused by electromagnetic induction. Because the induction heating is a convenient and efficient way of indirect heating, it has various applications such as heat treatment, brazing, welding, melting, and mold heating. The present study covers an experimental investigation on the rapid heating using the induction heating and rapid cooling using a vortex tube in order to eliminate an excessive cycle time increase. Experiments are performed in the case of a steel cup mold core with various heating and cooling conditions. Temperature is measured during heating and cooling time, from which appropriate mold heating and cooling conditions can be obtained.

  • Electric and telecommunication industries are constantly striving towards miniaturization of electronic devices. Miniaturization of chips creates extra space on PCBs that can be populated with additional components, which decreases the heat transfer surface area and generates very high heat flux. Even though an air-cooling technology for telecommunication equipment has been developed in accordance with rapid growth in electrical industry, it is confronted with the limitation of cooling capacity due to the rapid increase of heat density. In this study, liquid-cooling heat exchangers with MPCM slurries were designed and tested by varying geometry and operating conditions. The liquid-cooling heat exchangers with 4-paths showed higher cooling performance than the others. The cooling performance of liquid cooling heat exchanger with MPCM slurries was more enhanced than that of the air cooling system. It's performance was also slightly superior to that of the water cooling system at the inlet temperature of $19^{\circ}C$.

  • The nuclear fuel cycle plant is composed of various subsystems such as a fuel storage and delivery system (SDS), a tokamak exhaust processing system, a hydrogen isotope separation system, and a tritium plant analytical system. Korea is sharing in the construction of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) fuel cycle plant with the EU, Japan, and the US, and is responsible for the development and supply of the SDS. Hydrogen isotopes are the main fuel for nuclear fusion reactors. Metal hydrides offer a safe and convenient method for hydrogen isotope storage. The storage of hydrogen isotopes is carried out by absorption and desorption in a metal hydride bed. These reactions require heat removal and supply respectively. Accordingly, the rapid storage and delivery of hydrogen isotopes are enabled by a rapid cooling and heating of the metal hydride bed. In this study, we designed and manufactured a vertical-type hydrogen isotope storage bed, which is used to enhance the cooling performance. We present the experimental details of the cooling performances of the bed using various cooling parameters. We also present the modeling results to estimate the heat transport phenomena. We compared the cooling performance of the bed by testing different cooling modes, such as an isolation mode, a natural convection mode, and an outer jacket helium circulation mode. We found that helium circulation mode is the most effective which was confirmed in our model calculations. Thus we can expect a more efficient bed design by employing a forced helium circulation method for new beds.

  • In this paper, the configuration and design of the test equipment are presented to examine the impact of rapid temperature change in cooling-air that may occur during the operation of the fixed wing aircraft Environmental Control System (ECS) on avionic electronic equipment. At the start of the ECS, the temperature of the air supplied by the aircraft ECS may be increased to 5.0℃ per second. In order to ensure operating of the avionic electronic equipment that is mounted on the aircraft and receives cooling-air from the ECS, testing equipment that can implement the cooling-air characteristic test environment is required. During design of test equipment was verified cooling-air rapid rate of temperature change by performing a thermal/flow analysis, performance of the test equipment implemented was verified by applying an avionic electronic equipment.

  • Recently, the new refrigerating system, using non - fluorinated hydrocarbon refrigerants has to be developed for the agricultural fields. One of that kinds of systems is the cooling system using the water vapor and vacuum, in which the water evaporate at the low temperature under vacuum and absorb the large amount of the latent heat. If vapor with large amount of latent heat is removed from the system, the system is cooled accordingly. The characteristics of cooling under the vacuum was observed and measured using experimental apparatus, which is consisted of vacuum chamber, the ejectors, the pumps and the measurement apparatus. As the results of experiments, we know that the evaporation in the vacuum occurs vigorously when the materials to be cooled has more amounts of heat before cooling, and by which effects the materials can be cooled. The cooling vacuum system is more efficient than other methods when the agricultural products is chilled or dried.
