The remaining range between missile and target can be used to calculate the guidance command as well as to determine the explosion time of the warhead. Since the range, however, is not directly measured by on-board sensors of the missile, it is usually estimated by filter-based techniques using angle-only measurements. Conventional filter-based techniques are complex and require huge computation. In this paper, we propose a range estimation algorithm based on the geometrical triangulation principle for two points of missiles and a target. The proposed algorithm has a simple structure but the accuracy is largely dependent on the measurement errors. To improve the accuracy of estimation, Digital Fading Memory Filter (DFMF) is applied. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed through numerical simulations.
In active SONAR, several different methods are used to detect range-Doppler information of the target. Compressive sensing based method is more accurate than conventional methods and shows superior performance. There are several compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The ability of each algorithm depends on algorithm type, mutual coherence of sensing matrix, and signal to noise ratio. In this paper, we compared and analyzed computational performance and accuracy of various compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The performance of OMP (Orthogonal Matching Pursuit), CoSaMP (Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit), BPDN (CVX) (Basis Pursuit Denoising), LARS (Least Angle Regression) algorithms is respectively estimated for varying SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and mutual coherence. The optimal compressive sensing algorithm is presented according to the situation.

In this paper, we propose the improved initial image estimation method for a fast fractal image decoding. When the correlation between a domain and a range is given as the linear equation, the value of initial image estimation using the conventional method is the intersection between its linear equation and y=x. If the gradient of linear equation is large, that the difference of the value between each adjacent pixels is large, the conventional method has disadvantage which has the impossibility of exact estimation. The method of the proposed initial image estimation performs well by two steps. he first step can improve the disadvantage of the conventional method. The second step upgrades the range value which was found previous step by referring information of its domain. Though the computational complexity for the initial image estimation increses slightly, the total computational complexity decreases by 30% than that of the conventional method because of diminishing in the number of iterations.

This paper proposes an improved phase estimation method for AM(Amplitude Modulation) range measurement system. The previous phase estimation method induces errors by Doppler shift of a moving target. The proposed method compensates phase estimation error through the ADC(Adaptive Doppler Correction) to take the Doppler shift, thus can improve distance measurement accuracy. When compared with the previous method through simulation results, the Doppler shift compensation and accuracy are improved by 94.7% and 50%, respectively. Target distance error in an acoustic tank is estimated to be 7.7cm, which confirms that the proposed method can be used to estimate the distance in the marine environment.
This paper considers a long-run variance estimation using a block bootstrap method under strong dependence also known as long range dependence. We extend currently available methods in two ways. First, it extends bootstrap methods under short range dependence to long range dependence. Second, to accommodate the observation that strong dependence may come from deterministic trend plus noise models, we propose to utilize residuals obtained from the nonparametric kernel estimation with the bimodal kernel. The simulation study shows that our method works well; in addition, a data illustration is presented for practitioners.

To extract relative ranges from LOS(line of sight) information, we propose a passive ranging filter which is suitable for anti-ship missiles in HOJ(home on jam) mode. The proposed filter is devised to cope with the case that a passive ranging filter may include a large initial range estimation error since modem jammers are capable of very long range jamming. In addition, under the assumption that the missile motion is dominant over the HOJ engagement situation, the engagement geometry is modeled by a second order system. A new passive ranging filter is proposed by constructing an extended Kalman filter(EKF) based on the model. And then a least square initial state error estimation algorithm is attached to the EKF. Simulation results show that the proposed filter has a good range estimation performance with small computational load.
Selectivity estimation techniques in query optimization have been used in commercial databases and histograms are popularly used for the selectivity estimation. Recently, the techniques for spatio-temporal databases have been restricted to existing temporal and spatial databases. In addition, the selectivity estimation techniques focused on time-series data such as moving objects. It is also impossible to estimate selectivity for range queries with a time interval. Therefore, we construct two histograms, CMH (current multidimensional histogram) and PMH (past multidimensional histogram), to estimate the selectivity of multidimensional sequence data in spatio-temporal databases and propose effective selectivity estimation methods using the histograms. Furthermore, we solve a problem about the range query using our proposed histograms. We evaluated the effectiveness of histograms for range queries with a time interval through various experimental results.

This paper proposes an efficient frequency offset estimation algorithm for MB-OFDM based UWB systems. The time-frequency interleaving in MB-OFDM extends the time-interval between two transmitted OFDM symbols in the same sub-band. The extended time-interval causes not only the degradation of the system performance by reducing frequency offset estimation range, but also the increase of the hardware complexity by requiring the larger number of storing samples. The proposed estimation algorithm expands the estimation range by applying the proposed sign detection scheme. Simulation results show that the estimation range is increased above 30 ppm compared with a conventional auto-correlation based scheme. The estimation is performed on only one sub-band, and the frequency offsets of the others are calculated by relation to center frequency. This way reduced the number of the storing samples by about l/3. The frequency offset estimator with the proposed algorithm was designed into the architecture which minimizes hardware overhead by time-sharing operators and memory units, and which was synthesized to gate-level circuits using $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and the total gates were about 47K.
The purpose of this study was to measure intra-rater and inter-rater reliability and range of motion for measurement of passive shoulder internal rotation range of motion and to compare anterior glide distance of humeral head in three methods. Fifty healthy subjects and fifty patients with shoulder musculoskeletal pain were recruited for this study. The subjects' passive shoulder internal rotation range of motion was measured by visual estimation, manual stabilization, and pressure biofeedback unit methods. In two trials, measurements were performed on each subject by two examiners. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC(3,1)) was used to determine the reliability of each measurement. The intra-rater reliability of the three methods was excellent (ICC=.77~.93) in both groups. The inter-rater reliability of the visual estimation method was poor (ICC=.20, .29), the manual scapular stabilization method was poor and fair (ICC=.09, .50), and the pressure biofeedback unit method was excellent (ICC .86, .75) in the experimental and control groups. In the experimental group, the difference of examined range of motion by each examiner was significant in the visual estimation method and manual scapular stabilization method, but there was an insignificant difference between the groups is the pressure biofeedback unit method. This result suggests that the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of a pressure biofeedback unit was better than the other methods. The difference in distance of the anterior glide of humeral head was insignificant among all the methods. The pressure biofeedback unit method was the most reliable method, so it is proposed to be a new and reliable method to measure internal rotation range of motion.

When measuring the radiated noise of an underwater vehicle, the range information between the vehicle and the receiver is an important factor, but since Global Positioning System (GPS) is not available in underwater, an alternative method is needed. As an alternative, the range is measured by estimating the arrival time, arrival time difference, and arrival frequency difference using a separate acoustic signal. However, errors occur due to the channel environment, and these outliers become obstacles in continuously measuring range. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce errors by curve fitting with a function in the form of a V-curve as a post-processing to remove outliers that occurred in the process of measuring range information. Simulation, lake and sea trials were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. In the results of the lake trial, the range estimation error was reduced by about 85 % from the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) point of view.
