  • This paper considers a long-run variance estimation using a block bootstrap method under strong dependence also known as long range dependence. We extend currently available methods in two ways. First, it extends bootstrap methods under short range dependence to long range dependence. Second, to accommodate the observation that strong dependence may come from deterministic trend plus noise models, we propose to utilize residuals obtained from the nonparametric kernel estimation with the bimodal kernel. The simulation study shows that our method works well; in addition, a data illustration is presented for practitioners.

  • The purpose of the study was to suggest certain measurements of the skirt block pattern drafting process for the Korean female fashion models, with the aim to improve its fit. For this purpose, the study carried out an analysis of the lower body features of a dress form developed for the study. This form was representative of Korean female fashion models' body features. The study performed a cross-sectional analysis at waist and hip levels and measured the angles from the frontal and lateral silhouettes of the dress forms. The comparisons of the skirt block patterns developed through draping by the use of 2 types of the dress forms developed and existed and through drafting according to the current patternmaking method have led to noticeable findings in terms of implementation of the skirt block drafting process for the Korean female fashion models. The results of the study are as follows: (1) the vertical lengths between the levels at the front waist point and the side waist point in the patterns are 0.7cm; (2) the vertical length between the levels at the front waist point and the back waist point in the back panel is 0.7cm; (3) the horizontal lengths between the perpendicular line from the side hip point and the side waist point in patterns are within a range of 2.0 to 2.2cm; (4) the horizontal length between the original and the adjusted back waist points moved into the waist line, in a range of 0.0 to 1.0cm, differs whether the center back line would be folded or sewn.

  • In this farer, An ADSRC(Advanced Dedicated Short Range Communication) packet communication system developed by ETRI is introduced. The ADSRC system has been developed to provide high-speed, short-range wireless racket communication in roadside environment for mobile office services. The requirements of the ADSRC system for mobile office services and the system design specification to meet them with regard to mobile of nce environment are discussed. The ADSRC packet communication systems consist of the MAC(Medium Access Control) Processor block the OFDM() modem block and the RF block. The MAC processor block handles medium access control. The OFDM modem transmits data packets at up to 24Mbps adaptively and recovers the data from RF block. The ADSRC packet communication system architecture is described.

  • Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is one of the most widely used treatment modalities for a broad range of disorders, including otolaryngologic indications such as Meniere's disease and sudden hearing loss. We present a case of a vertiginous attack following SGB for the management of Meniere's disease. A 31-year-old female, suffering from Meniere's disease, underwent repeated right side SGBs with 6 ml of 1% mepivacaine after negative aspiration tests for blood. The eleventh block was performed in the usual manner. Several seconds after injection, she showed agitation, anxiety, nystagmus, and left-sided tinnitus. Two minutes later, her tinnitus and nystagmus were resolved. Fifteen minutes after injection, she experienced acute onset of severe vertigo, nausea, and vomiting. However, her symptoms were gradually alleviated within two hours.

  • A block-based fast motion estimation algorithm is proposed in this paper to perform motion estimation based on the efficiently reduced search ranges in MPEG-4(ERS). This algorithm divides the search areas into several small search areas and the candidate small search area that has the lowest average of sum norm difference between current macroblock and candidate macroblock is chosen to perform block motion estimation using the Nobel Successive Elimination Algorithm (NSEA). Experimental results of the proposed algorithm show that the averaging PSNR improvement is better maximum 0.125 dB than other tested algorithms and bit saving effect is maximum 20kbps for some tested sequences in low-bit rate circumstance.

  • In this paper, a review on second order slope rotatable designs (SOSRD) is studied. Further, different methods of constructions of SOSRD like slope rotatable central composite designs (SRCCD), SOSRD using balanced incomplete block designs (BIBD), SOSRD using pairwise balanced designs (PBD), SOSRD using partially balanced incomplete block type designs (PBIBD) and SOSRD using symmetrical unequal block arrangements (SUBA) with two unequal block sizes are examined in detail. A table is provided where for a range of different values of v (v stands for number of factors) the design points needed by different methods are compared. The optimum SOSRD with minimum number of design points for each factor is suggested for $2{\leq}v{\leq}16$.

  • Brachial plexus injury is a potential complication of a brachial plexus block or vessel puncture. It results from direct needle trauma, neurotoxicity of injection agents and hematoma formation. The neurological presentation may range from minor transient pain to severe sensory disturbance or motor loss with poor recovery. The management includes conservative treatment and surgical exploration. Especially if a hematoma forms, it should be removed promptly. Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and adept skills are crucial to avoid nerve injuries. Whenever possible, the patient should not be heavily sedated and should be encouraged to immediately inform the doctor of any experience of numbness/paresthesia during the nerve block or vessel puncture.

  • A new block low-density parity-check (Block-LDPC) code based on quadratic permutation polynomials (QPPs) is proposed. The parity-check matrix of the Block-LDPC code is composed of a group of permutation submatrices that correspond to QPPs. The scheme provides a large range of implementable LDPC codes. Indeed, the most popular quasi-cyclic LDPC (QC-LDPC) codes are just a subset of this scheme. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can offer similar error performance and implementation complexity as the popular QC-LDPC codes.

  • The interaction of turbulent mixed convection and surface radiation in a three-dimensional channel with the heated blocks is analyzed numerically. Two blocks are maintained at high temperature and the other bottom and horizontal walls are insulated. S-4 method is employed to calculate the effect of the radiative heat transfer. The low Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ model proposed by Launder and Sharma is used to estimate the turbulent influence on the heat transfer enhancement. From above modeling, the effects of various channel specifications on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are investigated. The variables used for the present study are Reynolds number, block spacing, the channel height spacing for block and the emissivity. Average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are correlated and presented in terms of Reynolds number, emissivity and dimensionless geometric parameters. For the range of conditions in this study, average Nusselt numbers along the block surfaces are strongly influenced by the Reynolds numbers and channel height spacing for block but weakly influenced by the block spacing and the emissivity of the adiabatic walls.

  • Stellate ganglion block is the most widely practiced procedure in the pain clinics due to its wide range of indications. We experienced a rare case who exhibited severe hematoma in neck following stellate ganglion block. A 58-year-old female patient injured by a traffic accident was admitted to the department of negro surgery for the treatment of cerebral contusion, cervical and lumbar sprain and left arm paresis. Because left sensory neural hearing loss occurred, the patient was referred to the pain clinic for treatment with stellate ganglion block due to her left sensory neural hearing loss. The next day stellate ganglion block was done with a negative aspiration for blood. Three hours later, hematoma in neck was found and the patient complained of pain in the neck and dyspnea. The symptoms and signs of respiratory difficulty were progressively aggravated. The hematoma was removed and ruptured muscular branch of vertebral artery was ligated under surgical exploration. In this case, the needle was apparently in the branch of vertebral artery during or after injection in spite of the negative aspiration for blood. Authors recommend that compression of the injected site over 5 minutes should be necessary to prevent a hematoma formation despite of a negative aspiration for blood.
