This study uses mixed-effects models to predict thigh soft tissue artefact (STA), relative movement of soft tissue such as skin to femur occurring during hip joint motions. The random effects in the model were defined as STA and the fixed effects in the model were considered as skeletal motion. Five male subjects without musculoskeletal disease were selected to perform various hip joint rotational motions. Linear mixed-effects models were applied to markers' position vectors acquired from non-invasive method, photogrammetry. Predicted random effects showed similar patterns of STA among subjects. Large magnitudes of STA appeared on the points near the hip joint regardless of sides; however, small values appeared on the distal anterior.

This paper proposes a mathematical model to analyze call-and packet-level performance of the TD-CDMA/TDD system which could serve a flexible radio resource management against multi-type heterogeneous and asymmetrical traffic conditions. On call-level analysis, the mathematical model based on queueing theory performs multi-dimensional operations using random vectors or matrices to consider multiple types of traffic and also deal with asymmetrical up- and down-direction transmissions separately. Employing the mathematical model, we obtain rail blocking probability for each type of traffic and also the optimum switching-point with the smallest call flocking probability. And on packet-level analysis, employing a non-prioritized queueing scheme between circuit and packet calls, we solve 2-dimensional random vector problem composed of the queue length for packets and the number of circuit calls being served. Finally, packet-level performance is analyzed in terms of the packet loss probability and the buffer size required under mixed-traffic conditions of multiple types of circuit and packet calls.
Comprehensive understanding of the flood risk assessments via frequency analysis often demands multivariate designs under the different notations of return periods. Flood is a tri-variate random consequence, which often pointing the unreliability of univariate return period and demands for the joint dependency construction by accounting its multiple intercorrelated flood vectors i.e., flood peak, volume & durations. Selecting the most parsimonious probability functions for demonstrating univariate flood marginals distributions is often a mandatory pre-processing desire before the establishment of joint dependency. Especially under copulas methodology, which often allows the practitioner to model univariate marginals separately from their joint constructions. Parametric density approximations often hypothesized that the random samples must follow some specific or predefine probability density functions, which usually defines different estimates especially in the tail of distributions. Concentrations of the upper tail often seem interesting during flood modelling also, no evidence exhibited in favours of any fixed distributions, which often characterized through the trial and error procedure based on goodness-of-fit measures. On another side, model performance evaluations and selections of best-fitted distributions often demand precise investigations via comparing the relative sample reproducing capabilities otherwise, inconsistencies might reveal uncertainty. Also, the strength & weakness of different fitness statistics usually vary and having different extent during demonstrating gaps and dispensary among fitted distributions. In this literature, selections efforts of marginal distributions of flood variables are incorporated by employing an interactive set of parametric functions for event-based (or Block annual maxima) samples over the 50-years continuously-distributed streamflow characteristics for the Kelantan River basin at Gulliemard Bridge, Malaysia. Model fitness criteria are examined based on the degree of agreements between cumulative empirical and theoretical probabilities. Both the analytical as well as graphically visual inspections are undertaken to strengthen much decisive evidence in favour of best-fitted probability density.

Since radar wind profiler (RWP) provides wind field data with high time and space resolution in all weather conditions, their verification of the accuracy and quality is essential. The simultaneous wind measurement from rawinsonde is commonly used to evaluate wind vectors from RWP. In this study, the simulation algorithm which produces the spectrum and raw time series (I/Q) data from the average values of moments is presented as a step-by-step verification method for the signal processing algorithm. The possibility of the simulation algorithm was also confirmed through comparison with the raw data of LAP-3000. The Doppler power spectrum was generated by assuming the density function of the skew-normal distribution and by using the moment values as the parameter. The simulated spectrum was generated through random numbers. In addition, the coherent averaged I/Q data was generated by random phase and inverse discrete Fourier transform, and raw I/Q data was generated through the Dirichlet distribution.

Crack detection method of a rotating blade was suggested in this paper. A rotating blade was modeled with a cantilever beam connected to a hub undergoing rotating motion. The existence and the location of crack were able to be recognized from the vertical response of end tip of a rotating cantilever beam by employing Discrete Hidden Markov Model (DHMM) and Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). DHMM is a famous stochastic method in the field of speech recognition. However, in recent researches, it has been proved that DHMM can also be used in machine health monitoring. EMD is the method suggested by Huang et al. that decompose a random signal into several mono component signals. EMD was used in this paper as the process of extraction of feature vectors which is the important process to developing DHMM. It was found that developed DHMMs for crack detection of a rotating blade have shown good crack detection ability.
The aim of this study was to screen for polypeptides binding specifically to LoVo human colorectal cancer cells using a phage-displayed peptide library as a targeting vector for colorectal cancer therapy. Human normal colorectal mucous epithelial cells were applied as absorber cells for subtraction biopanning with a c7c phage display peptide library. Positive phage clones were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and immunofluorescence detection; amino acid sequences were deduced by DNA sequencing. After 3 rounds of screening, 5 of 20 phage clones screened positive, showing specific binding to LoVo cells and a conserved RPM motif. Specific peptides against colorectal cancer cells could be obtained from a phage display peptide library and may be used as potential vectors for targeting therapy for colorectal cancer.
In this paper, we propose a novel motion field estimation algorithm for which a U-disparity map and forward-and-backward error removal are applied in a vehicular environment. Generally, a motion exists in an image obtained by a camera attached to a vehicle by vehicle movement; however, the obtained motion vector is inaccurate because of the surrounding environmental factors such as the illumination changes and vehicles shaking. It is, therefore, difficult to extract an accurate motion vector, especially on the road surface, due to the similarity of the adjacent-pixel values; therefore, the proposed algorithm first removes the road surface region in the obtained image by using a U-disparity map, and uses then the optical flow that represents the motion vector of the object in the remaining part of the image. The algorithm also uses a forward-backward error-removal technique to improve the motion-vector accuracy and a vehicle's movement is predicted through the application of the RANSAC (RANdom SAmple Consensus) to the previously obtained motion vectors, resulting in the generation of a motion field. Through experiment results, we show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is superior to that of an existing algorithm.
A growing body of evidence shows that most psychological traits are polygenic, that is they involve the action of many genes with small effects. However, the study of selection has disproportionately been on one or a few genes and their associated sweep signals (rapid and large changes in frequency). If our goal is to study the evolution of psychological variables, such as intelligence, we need a model that explains the evolution of phenotypes governed by many common genetic variants. This study illustrates simple statistical tools to detect signals of recent polygenic selection: a) ANOVA can be used to reveal significant deviation from random distribution of allele frequencies across racial groups. b) Principal component analysis can be used as a tool for finding a factor that represents the strength of recent selection on a phenotype and the underlying genetic variation. c) Method of correlated vectors: the correlation between genetic frequencies and the average phenotypes of different populations is computed; then, the resulting correlation coefficients are correlated with the corresponding alleles' genome-wide significance. This provides a measure of how selection acted on genes with higher signal to noise ratio. Another related test is that alleles with large frequency differences between populations should have a higher genome-wide significance value than alleles with small frequency differences. This paper fruitfully employs these tools and shows that common genetic variants exhibit subtle frequency shifts and that these shifts predict phenotypic differences across populations.

Recently, Digital Watermarking is used to authenticate data and to determine whether the data are distorted or not in medical images which is digitalized. The Fourier Mellin method using the Fourier Transform and the Log-Polar coordinate transform gets an invariant feature for RST distortion in images. But there are several problems in the real materialization. Interpolation of the image value should be considered according to the pixel position and so a watermark loss, original image distortion, numerical approximation is happened. Therefore there should be solved to realization of the Fourier Mellin method. Using the Look up table, there reduce the data loss caused by the conversion between Rectangular and Polar coordinate. After diagnose, medical images are transformed the Polar coordinate and taken the Discrete Fourier transform in the center of ROI region. Maintaining the symmetry in Fourier magnitude coefficient, the gaussian distributed random vectors and binary images are embedded in medical images.
In order to control vibration in structures, it is desirable to be able to identify dominant paths of vibration transmission from sources through the structure to some points of interest. Structural intensity vector(power flow per width of cross section) using cross spectra is able to measure the vibration power flow at a point in a structure. This paper describes the structural intensity measurement of 2-dimensional structure. Structural intensity of 2-dimensional structure can be obtained from eight point cross spectral measurement per axis, or two point measurement per axis on the assumption of far field. Approximate formulation of the relation between bending waves in structures and structural intensity makes it possible to separate the wave components by which one can get a state of the vibration field. Experimental results are obtained on an infinite plate at the near and far field in flexural vibration. The measurement error of two point measurement is rather bigger than eight point measurement on account of the assumption that Poisson's ratio is 1. The structural intensity vectors on the plate are checked the ability to identify the path of vibration power flow in random excitation and 200Hz sine excitation, the result of two point measurememt is almost the same as the result of eight point measurement in 200Hz sine excitation.
