  • In the conventional inverse modeling method for on-line modeling of the secondary path transfer function, the signal to noise ratio between the arbitrary random signal and the plant noise have to keep at -10 - -20 dB. For these reasons, the modeling can't be exactly implemented by the conventional method alone and the convergence time for modeling becomes too long. In this study, by combining the conventional inverse modeling method with an adaptive line enhancer, or with an adaptive noise canceller, a rigorous transfer functions of secondary path modeling and the control of a primary noise have been implemented simultaneously.

  • Three methods(the stepped sine method, the statistical method(random excitation method) and the maximum-length sequence(MLS) method) for head-related transfer functions(HRTFs) are experimentally compared in view point of accuracy and efficiency. First, the stepped sine method has high signal-to-noise ratio, but low efficiency. Second, the statistical method is fast measurement speed, but weak to noise than the other methods. Finally, the MLS method shows both good efficiency and high signal-to-noise ratio, but it needs additional software or equipment such as MLS signal generator. For comparison of measurement accuracy, HRTFs of KEMAR dummy are measured for various azimuths and elevations. Error norms for magnitude and phase of HRTFs are defined and calculated for the measured HRTFs. The calculated error norms show that the methods give similar results in magnitude and phase except a little phase difference in the MLS method.

  • Caenorhabditis elegans exhibits sophisticated chemotaxis behavior through two parallel strategies, klinokinesis and klinotaxis, executed entirely by a small nervous circuit. It is therefore suitable for inspiring fast and energy-efficient solutions for autonomous navigation. As a random search strategy, the Lévy walk is optimal for diverse animals when foraging without external chemical cues. In this study, by combining these biological strategies for the first time, we propose a spiking neural network model for search and contour tracking of specific concentrations of environmental variables. Specifically, we first design a klinotaxis module using spiking neurons. This module works in conjunction with a klinokinesis module, allowing rapid searches for the concentration setpoint and subsequent contour tracking with small deviations. Second, we build a random exploration module. It generates a Lévy walk in the absence of concentration gradients, increasing the chance of encountering gradients. Third, considering local extrema traps, we develop a termination module combined with an escape module to initiate or terminate the escape in a timely manner. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model integrating these modules can switch strategies autonomously according to the information from a single sensor and control steering through output spikes, enabling the model worm to efficiently navigate across various scenarios.

  • Estimation of the evoked potential using the iterated bispectrum and cross-correlation (IBC) has been tried for both simulation and real clinical data. Conventional time average (TA) method suffers from synchronization error when the latency time of the evoked potential is random, which results in poor SNR distortion in the estimation of EP waveform. Instead of EP signal average in time domain, bispectrum is used which is insensitive to time delay. The EP signal is recovered by the inverse transform of the Fourier amplitude and phase obtained from the bispectrum. The distribution of the latency time is calculated using cross-correlation between EP signal estimated by the bispectrum and the acquired signal. For the simulation. EEG noise was added to the known EP signal and the EP signal was estimated by both the conventional technique and bispectrum technique. The proposed bispectrum technique estimates EP signal more accurately than the conventional technique with respect to the maximum amplitude of a signal, full width at half maximum(FWHM). signal-to-noise-ratio, and the position of maximum peak. When applied to the real visual evoked potential(VEP) signal. bispectrum technique was able to estimate EP signal more distinctively. The distribution of the latency time may play an important role in medical diagonosis.

  • Opportunistic interference alignment (OIA) has been proposed for multi-cell random access networks (RAN), which minimizes the generating interference to neighboring RANs and yields better performance compared with the conventional techniques. The OIA for RANs considers both physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) layers. In this paper, we introduce a protocol of which each user maximizes the transmit signal regardless of the generating interference to neighboring RANs, contrary to the OIA technique. In addition, we compare the performance of the signal-maximization technique with the OIA technique.

  • In this paper, we designed a beta ray sensor for a true random number generator. Instead of biasing the gate of the PMOS feedback transistor to a DC voltage, the current flowing through the PMOS feedback transistor is mirrored through a current bias circuit designed to be insensitive to PVT fluctuations, thereby minimizing fluctuations in the signal voltage of the CSA. In addition, by using the constant current supplied by the BGR (Bandgap Reference) circuit, the signal voltage is charged to the VCOM voltage level, thereby reducing the change in charge time to enable high-speed sensing. The beta ray sensor designed with 0.18㎛ CMOS process shows that the minimum signal voltage and maximum signal voltage of the CSA circuit which are resulted from corner simulation are 205mV and 303mV, respectively. and the minimum and maximum widths of the pulses generated by comparing the output signal through the pulse shaper with the threshold voltage (VTHR) voltage of the comparator, were 0.592㎲ and 1.247㎲, respectively. resulting in high-speed detection of 100kHz. Thus, it is designed to count up to 100 kilo pulses per second.

  • Test statistics are obtained for detection of weak signals in signal-dependent noise using rank statistics. A generalized model is used in this paper in order to consider non-additivenoise as well as purely-additive noise. Locally optimum rank detectors for the model are shown to have similarity to locally optimum detectors and to be generalizations of these for the purely-additive noise model. A similar result is obtained for multi-input cases.

  • When the noise has both additive and signal-dependent components, locally optimum detector test statistics are obtained for detection of weak composite signals using the generalized Neyman-Pearson lemma. In order to consider the non-additive noise as well as purely-additive noise, a generalized observation model is used in this paper. The locally optimum detector test statistics are derived for several different cases according to the relative strengths of the known signal component, the random signal component, and the signal-dependent noise component. Schematic diagrams of the locally optimum detector structures are also included.

  • A high-speed signal processor for Fabry-Perot interferometric sensors using modified ramp modulation is implemented. The main idea for the signal processing is to find a modulation waveform that could induce a linear frequency change in a laser diode to linearize the relationship between the optical phase shift and measurand. It is found that the waveform could be modeled as the addition of a linear term and an exponential term. A signal processor adopting modified ramp modulation technique is implemented and evaluated to find linearity, drift and random walk of $<{\pm}1.5%$, $0.4^{\circ}C$, $5.28{\times}10^{-4}^{\circ}C/{\sqrt{Hz}}$.

  • A method of measuring impulse response of acoustic system, two kinds of cross-correlation methods (the direct correlation method and the M-sequence modulation correlation method) were applied. According to the direct correlation method, by using stationary random noise source and by calculating the cross-correlation function between the sourece and the output signal, equivalent impulse response can be obtained not being influenced by the back ground noises. By applying this method, the measurement of echo-time patterns in rooms and oblique incident sound absorption characteristics of sound absorbing materials was carried out. In the case of the M-sequence modulation correlation method which was contrived by Aoshima, an intermittent random nosie modulated by M-sequence signal is used as the source signal, and the cross-correlation function between the M-sequence signal and the squared output signal is calculated. According to this method, equivalent energy impulse response (squared impulse response) of te propagation system can be obtained without being influenced by the back ground noises and the air fluctuation caused by wind. As the applcaition of this measuring method to the architectural acoustics, the meaurements of echo-time patterns, reverberation decays and sound pressure lev디 distributions in rooms and sound insulation efficiencies in buildings were carried out. From these experimental studies, it has been found that this M-sequence modulation correlation method is markedly useful especially for the field masurement of sound insulation under high back ground noise condition.
