The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters of milk protein yields in Iranian Holstein dairy cattle. A total of 1,112,082 test-day milk protein yield records of 167,269 first lactation Holstein cows, calved from 1990 to 2010, were analyzed. Estimates of the variance components, heritability, and genetic correlations for milk protein yields were obtained using a random regression test-day model. Milking times, herd, age of recording, year, and month of recording were included as fixed effects in the model. Additive genetic and permanent environmental random effects for the lactation curve were taken into account by applying orthogonal Legendre polynomials of the fourth order in the model. The lowest and highest additive genetic variances were estimated at the beginning and end of lactation, respectively. Permanent environmental variance was higher at both extremes. Residual variance was lowest at the middle of the lactation and contrarily, heritability increased during this period. Maximum heritability was found during the 12th lactation stage ($0.213{\pm}0.007$). Genetic, permanent, and phenotypic correlations among test-days decreased as the interval between consecutive test-days increased. A relatively large data set was used in this study; therefore, the estimated (co)variance components for random regression coefficients could be used for national genetic evaluation of dairy cattle in Iran.

The forming, reset and set operation of bipolar resistive random access memory (RRAM) have been predicted by using a finite element (FE) model which includes interface effects. To the best of our knowledge, our bipolar RRAM model is applicable to realistic cell structure optimization because our model is based on the FE method (FEM) unlike precedent models.

In clinical studies, different types of outcomes (e.g. repeated measures data and time-to-event data) for the same subject tend to be observed, and these data can be correlated. For example, a response variable of interest can be measured repeatedly over time on the same subject and at the same time, an event time representing a terminating event is also obtained. Joint modelling using a shared random effect is useful for analyzing these data. Inferences based on marginal likelihood may involve the evaluation of analytically intractable integrations over the random-effect distributions. In this paper we propose a joint HGLM approach for analyzing such outcomes using the HGLM (hierarchical generalized linear model) method based on h-likelihood (i.e. hierarchical likelihood), which avoids these integration itself. The proposed method has been demonstrated using various numerical studies.
We consider a logistic model with random effects as the superpopulation for estimating the small area pro-portions. The best linear unbiased predictor under linear mired model is popular in small area estimation. We use this type of estimator under logistic mixed motel for the small area proportions, on which the estimation of mean squared error is also discussed. Two kinds of estimation methods, the parametric bootstrap and the linear approximation will be compared through a Monte Carlo study in the respects of the normality assumption on the random effects distribution and also the magnitude of sample sizes on the approximation.

This paper deals with logistic regression models for analysing separation rates from majors. The model building procedure shows how to incoporate the effects of some factors causing from three-way nested sampling scheme and discusses what type of characteristics as independent variables directly affecting the rates should be considered.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of person-job fit, which consists of educational fit and skill fit, on employees' intrinsic job satisfaction. To the end, the 10-year balanced panel data of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) by the Korea Labor Institute (KLI) for 2008-2017 are utilized. This study analyzes 12,730 observations by 1,273 employees by using fixed effect model, random effect model, and pooled OLS estimation method. The empirical results are as follows: First, it is founded that educational fit and skill fit seem affect job satisfaction positively. Second, the negative effects of over-education are clear and the negative effects of under-education are unclear, while the effects of over-skilled and under-skilled are insignificant statistically. Third, the results imply that the size of effect of over-education on intrinsic job satisfaction is larger than that of the effect of over-skilled. Forth, it is shown that the use of fixed effect model is more effective and trustworthy than that of random effect model and pooled OLS estimation method, implying that the effect size of coefficients which are estimated by pooled OLS method and random effect model are likely over-estimated. The empirical results above imply that firms and employees should focus on solving over-education issue before all in order to enhance employees' job satisfaction and it is needed to monitor regularly whether systemic job assignment process is done based on the employees' educational attainment and skill level and to provide more chances for job re-allocation and job rotation.
Objective: During the last decade, genetic evaluation of dairy cows using longitudinal data (test day milk yield or 305-day milk yield) using random regression method has been officially adopted in several countries. The objectives of this study were to estimate covariance functions for genetic and permanent environmental effects and to obtain genetic parameters of 305-day milk yield over seven parities. Methods: Data including 60,279 total 305-day milk yield of 17,309 Iranian Holstein dairy cows in 7 parities calved between 20 to 140 months between 2004 and 2011. Residual variances were modeled by homogeneous and step functions with 7 and 10 classes. Results: The results showed that a third order polynomial for additive genetic and permanent environmental effects plus a step function with 10 classes for the residual variance was the most adequate and parsimonious model to describe the covariance structure of the data. Heritability estimates obtained by this model varied from 0.17 to 0.28. The performance of this model was better than repeatability model. Moreover, 10 classes of residual variance produce the more accurate result than 7 classes or homogeneous residual effect. Conclusion: A quadratic Legendre polynomial for additive genetic and permanent environmental effects with 10 step function residual classes are sufficient to produce a parsimonious model that explained the change in 305-day milk yield over consecutive parities of Iranian Holstein cows.

In the analysis of cancer data, it is important to make inferences of survival function and to assess the effects of covariates. Cox's proportional hazard model(PHM) and Beran's nonparametric method are generally used to estimate the survival function with covariates. We adjusted the incomplete survival time using the Buckley and James's(1979) pseudo random variables, and then proposed the estimator for the conditional survival function. Also, we carried out the simulation studies to compare the performances of the proposed method.
Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters and trends for milk, fat, and protein yields in the first three lactations of Thai dairy cattle using a 3-trait,-3-lactation random regression test-day model. Methods: Data included 168,996, 63,388, and 27,145 test-day records from the first, second, and third lactations, respectively. Records were from 19,068 cows calving from 1993 to 2013 in 124 herds. (Co) variance components were estimated by Bayesian methods. Gibbs sampling was used to obtain posterior distributions. The model included herd-year-month of testing, breed group-season of calving-month in tested milk group, linear and quadratic age at calving as fixed effects, and random regression coefficients for additive genetic and permanent environmental effects, which were defined as modified constant, linear, quadratic, cubic and quartic Legendre coefficients. Results: Average daily heritabilities ranged from 0.36 to 0.48 for milk, 0.33 to 0.44 for fat and 0.37 to 0.48 for protein yields; they were higher in the third lactation for all traits. Heritabilities of test-day milk and protein yields for selected days in milk were higher in the middle than at the beginning or end of lactation, whereas those for test-day fat yields were high at the beginning and end of lactation. Genetics correlations (305-d yield) among production yields within lactations (0.44 to 0.69) were higher than those across lactations (0.36 to 0.68). The largest genetic correlation was observed between the first and second lactation. The genetic trends of 305-d milk, fat and protein yields were 230 to 250, 25 to 29, and 30 to 35 kg per year, respectively. Conclusion: A random regression model seems to be a flexible and reliable procedure for the genetic evaluation of production yields. It can be used to perform breeding value estimation for national genetic evaluation in the Thai dairy cattle population.

In medical or public health research, it is common to encounter clustered or longitudinal count data that exhibit excess zeros. For example, health care utilization data often have a multi-modal distribution with excess zeroes as well as a multilevel structure where patients are nested within physicians and hospitals. To analyze this type of data, zero-inflated count models with mixed effects have been developed where a count response variable is assumed to be distributed as a mixture of a Poisson or negative binomial and a distribution with a point mass of zeros that include random effects. However, no study has considered a situation where data are also censored due to the finite nature of the observation period or follow-up. In this paper, we present a weighted version of zero-inflated Poisson model with random effects accounting for variable individual follow-up times. We suggested two different types of weight function. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated and compared to a standard zero-inflated mixed model through simulation studies. This approach is then applied to Medicaid data analysis.
