  • A good arithmetic random number generator should possess full period, uniformity and independence, etc. To obtain the excellent random number generator, many researchers have found good parameters. Also an initial seed is the important factor in random number generator. But, there is no theoretical guideline for using the initial seeds. Therefore, random number generator is usually used with the arbitrary initial seed. Through the empirical tests, we show that the choice of the initial values for the seed is important to generate good random numbers.

  • Although many different types of covert channels have been suggested in the literature, there are little work in directly applying game theory to building up covert channel. This is because researchers have mainly focused on tailoring game theory for covert channel analysis, identification, and covert channel problem solving. Unlike typical adaptation of game theory to covert channel, we show that game theory can be utilized to establish a new type of covert channel in IoT devices. More specifically, we propose a covert channel that can be constructed by utilizing the Nash Equilibrium with sensor data collected from IoT devices. For covert channel construction, we set random seed to the value of sensor data and make payoff from random number created by running pseudo random number generator with the configured random seed. We generate I × J (I ≥ 2, J ≥ 2) matrix game with these generated payoffs and attempt to obtain the Nash Equilibrium. Covert channel construction method is distinctly determined in accordance with whether or not to acquire the Nash Equilibrium.

Proposed new PRN-SEED crypto-algorithm increase in the processing rate than existed algorithms use bit and byte mixed operation with RNG(Random Number Generator). PRN-SEED that performs simultaneous operations have higher 1.03 in the processing rate and 2 in the cryptosystem performance than existed cryptosystems. Implementation for PRN-SEED use Synopsys Design Analyser Ver. 1999.10, samsung KG75 library and Synopsys VHDL Debegger. As a simulation result, symmetric cryptosystem DES operate 416Mbps at the 40MHz and Rijndael operate 612Mbps at the 50MHz. PRN-SEED cryptosystem have gate counting 10K and operate 430Mbps at the 40MHz and 630Mbps at the 50MHz.

  • Seed protein and oil content is important trait in the soybean. Both seed protein and oil content in this plant species is inherited quantitatively. A 68-plant $F_2$ segregation population derived from a mating between Mercury and PI 467.468 was evaluated with random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers to identify QTL related to seed protein and oil content. Marker OPB12 was found to be associated with differences in seed protein content. Four markers, OPA09b, OPM07b, OPC14, and OPN11b had highly significant effects on seed oil content. By interval mapping, the interval between marker OPK3c and OPQ1b on linkage group 13 contained a QTL that explained 25.7% variation for seed oil content.

  • Mechanical hair removal of carrot seed causes seed injuries and suppresses the germination in carrot cultivation. This study was performed to develop molecular markers for breeding high quality cultivars with short-hair seed. To meet this objective, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD)-sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers specifically linked to seed-hair characteristic were identified using CT-SMR 616 OP 389-1 line with short-haired seed and CT-SMR 616 OP 616-33 line with long-haired seed, bred by self-pollination for 6 years from 2008 to 2013, as parents. After seed hair lengths of these lines were analyzed using microscope, next generations were advanced and compared with the molecular markers polymorphism. From RAPD analysis using fixed lines in 2011, twelve RAPD primers showing polymorphic bands specific between the two lines were identified from 80 random primers. To develop RAPD-SACR marker, SCAR primers were designed based on sequence analysis of these specific RAPD bands and more than three combinations of primers were tested. As a result, it was found that the $SCA2_{1.2}$ amplified single polymorphic band from short-haired seed line. To confirm this result, $SCA2_{1.2}$ marker was retested by applying to the 2012 and 2013 progenies. Finally, it was concluded that the developed $SCA2_{1.2}$ marker distinguished short-haired line from long-haired seed line. Therefore, SCAR marker, $SCA2_{1.2}$ is expected to be utilized for breeding of the short-haired seed cultivars.

  • The cultivated radish (Raphanus sativus L.) is a major vegetable crop in the world wide and fast-growing species that grows inhabitats of six continents. It is very important to determine hybrid seed purity in the production of hybrid Brassica vegetable seeds to avoid unacceptable contamination with self-inbred (sib) seeds. The use of random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers for evaluating seed purity in $F_2$-hybrid radish cultivars demonstrated. One hundred eighty seeds from the F1 male and female harvest were subsequently screened for seed purity using 13 primers. The 13 primers result in 17 cultivar-specific bands and 23 variable RAPD bands scored for cultivar. RAPD analysis of hybrid seeds from the harvest revealed 128 seeds tested except underdevelopment and decayed seeds were sibs. Especially, $F_2$ hybrids of radish, OPC13, OPD20 were presented clear hybrid bands. It maintains higher than average level of genetic diversity compared with their correspondent parents. RAPD amplification of DNA extracted from germinated individuals from the female harvest reveal that 10 of 208 seeds tested were self-inbred (4.8%). RAPD analysis of hybrid seeds from the male harvest revealed 7 of the 208 seeds tested were sibs (3.4%). The RAPD may lead to a better insight in to the hybrid seed purity.

  • This paper presents a lightweight true random number generator (TRNG) using beta radiation that is useful for Internet of Things (IoT) security. In general, a random number generator (RNG) is required for all secure communication devices because random numbers are needed to generate encryption keys. Most RNGs are computer algorithms and use physical noise as their seed. However, it is difficult to obtain physical noise in small IoT devices. Since IoT security functions are required in almost all countries, IoT devices must be equipped with security algorithms that can pass the cryptographic module validation programs of each country. In this regard, it is very cumbersome to embed security algorithms, random number generation algorithms, and even physical noise sources in small IoT devices. Therefore, this paper introduces a lightweight TRNG comprising a thin-film beta-radiation source and integrated circuits (ICs). Although the ICs are currently being designed, the IC design was functionally verified at the board level. Our random numbers are output from a verification board and tested according to National Institute of Standards and Technology standards.

  • Masking technique that is most widely known as countermeasure against power analysis attack prevents leakage for sensitive information during the implementations of cryptography algorithm. it have been studied extensively until now applied on block cipher algorithms. Masking countermeasure have been applied to international standard SEED algorithm. Masked SEED algorithm proposed by Cho et al, not only protects against first order power analysis attacks but also efficient by reducing the execution of Arithmetic to Boolean converting function. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerability of Cho's algorithm against first order power analysis attacks. We targeted additional pre-computation to improve the efficiency in order to recover the random mask value being exploited in first order power analysis attacks. We describe weakness by considering both theoretical and practical aspects and are expecting to apply on every device equipped with cho's algorithm using the proposed attack method.
