  • This paper proposes a Ubiquitous Henhouse Monitoring System (UHMS) that can not only monitor henhouse's conditions and raising environments, but also control the henhouse remotely by using sensor network technology. The system consists of three layers. The physical layer connects sensors with facilities. The middleware layer processes and manages data collected from the physical layer. And the application layer provides the user with the user requested services. The system provides a real-time monitoring service, a facility controlling service, an expert service, a consumer safety service, and a mobile message service via interacting with components of each layer. Finally, a henhouse model is defined and the relevant system components and the application GUIs are implemented.

  • This present paper describes concepts of the real-time operation monitoring system as a tool for enhancing the reliability and raising the availability of the first Korea IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) power plant. This system consists of five (5) modules : (1) Data Validation Module, (2) Performance Calculation Module (3) Performance Diagnostic Module, (4) Trip Information Module, and (5) Statistics Analysis Module. Among these modules, Performance Calculation Module is explained in more detail. The objective of this module is to continuously evaluate the degradation (decrease in performance) of the IGCC plant and its equipment in order to provide plant operators additional information to help them identify problems, improve performance.

  • Although breast implants have been in clinical use for almost 6 decades and have undergone considerable development during this time, implant rupture is still a dreaded long-term complication. Some obvious external factors, such as trauma, can lead to implant rupture, but many studies have reported a high rate of "spontaneous" implant rupture. Herein, we present two cases with the aim of raising awareness of a new possible cause of "spontaneous" implant rupture: mechanical irritation by bony protrusions.

  • In this paper, each specimen blended at weight proportions of 80% HDPE to 20% EVA, 70% HDPE to 30% EVA, 60% HDPE to 40% EVA, and 50% HDPE to 50% EVA was manufactured respectively. The insulation performances of the proposed insulator were compared with conventional XLPE, main insulating material of CV cable on the basis of the investigation results of DC insulation performances. From the space charge density, electric field and potential profiles with raising DC voltage and time variation in HE82, distortion of electric field distribution was improved. As EVA mixed into the bulks acts as nucleation in crystallization process of HDPE, the size of spherulites became decreased and finally formed continuous network structure. Ultimately it resulted from extinction of space charge in the interfacial region of spherulites.

  • We studied the influence of culture conditions on the acid tolerance of Lactobacillus casei YIT 9018 in artificial gastric juice with respect to relative amount of membrane bound ATPase and their biochemical characteristics. With raising incubation temperature from 30.5$\circ$C to 40.5$\circ$C and lengthening incubation time from exponential phase to late stationary phase, the acid tolerance of L. casei YIT 9018 was increased. As acid tolerance enhanced, C$_{18:1}$ content of membrane fatty acid was reduced and C$_{19:0 cyclo}$ was enriched but the others were not changed greatly. At high ATPase activity, proton permeability was relatively low but this phenomenon did not correspond to acid tolerance. In conclusion, it was considered that changes of C$_{18:1}$ and C$_{19:0 cyclo}$ were closely related to the acid tolerance of L. casei YIT 9018.

  • Purpose - This paper discusses the heterogeneous fixed fleet vehicle routing problem with pick-up and delivery (HFFVRPPD), for vehicles with different capacities, fixed costs, and travel costs. Research Design, data, methodology - This paper made nine assumptions for establishing a mathematical model to describe HFFVRPPD. It established a practical mathematical model, and because of the non-deterministic polynomial-time hard (NP-hard), improved the traditional simulated annealing algorithm and tested a new algorithm using a certain scale model. Result - We calculated the minimum cost of the heterogeneous fixed fleet vehicle routing problem (HFFVRP) with a single task and, on comparing the results with the actual HFFVRP for the single task alone, observed that the total cost of HFFVRPPD reduced significantly by 46.7%. The results showed that the new algorithm provides better solutions and stability. Conclusions - This paper, by comparing the HFFVRP and HFFVRPPD results, highlights certain advantages of using HFFVRPPD in physical distribution enterprises, such as saving distribution vehicles, reducing logistics cost, and raising economic benefits.

  • According to the fact that Macbansuk and clay are very porous, we produced combined adsorbent and we investigated the removing capacity of adsorbent to toxic heavy metal (Pb, Cu) in the single and mixed solution. Then the experimental parametars were pH, reaction time and amount of adsorbent. And we studied possibility of adsorbent by applying to the Freundlich isotherm. As raising the pH of single and mixed solution in range 2~5, the maximum adsorption capability was investigated in range 3~4. When Cu and Pb were applied to Freundlich isotherm, l/n were 0.291 and 0.513 respectively. In the case of mixed solution with both, l/n value was 0.614. In this study, we concluded that the combined adsorbent treated toxic heavy metal is possible under 100 ppm of its concentration.

  • Modern VLSI designs get increasingly complex and time-to-market constraints get tighter. Using high level languages is one of the most promising solutions for improving design productivity by raising the level of abstraction. In high level synthesis process, most important step is scheduling. In this paper, we propose fast and efficient scheduling method under timing constraint based on list scheduling. Experimental results on well known data path intensive designs show fast execution times (less than 0.5 sec) and similar results when compared to optimal solutions [1].

  • A simple quantitative assay method for ribonuclease activity has been developed. This method is based on the decrease of fluorescence intensity emitted by the ethidium bromide bound to RNA due to the degradation of RNA by ribonuclease. The substrate RNA was reacted with ribonuclease A and the fluorescence intensity was measured after the addition of ethidium bromide. The intensity difference was calculated using a blank reaction mixture containing no RNase. Whole cellular RNA substrate produced a significant error and was not suitable for this assay method possibly because of local microheterogeniety caused by high molecular weight rRNA. but satisfying results were obtained with tRNA substrate. The intensity difference increased linearly by raising enzyme concentration up to $2{\times}10^{-4}$ Kunitz Units of ribonuclease A. More refined and reliable results were obtained by use of initial reaction velocities which were calculated from the plots of intensity difference vs time. A linear relationship between initial velocities and enzyme concentrations was observed up to 0.01 Kunitz Units of enzyme.

  • Microsurgery training in Singapore began in 1980 with the opening of the Experimental Surgical Unit. Since then, the unit has continued to grow and have held microsurgical training courses biannually. The road to becoming a full-fledged reconstructive surgeon requires the mastering of both microvascular as well as flap raising techniques and requires time, patience and good training facilities. In Singapore, over the past 2 decades, we have had the opportunity to develop good training facilities and to refine our surgical education programmes in reconstructive microsurgery. In this article, we share our experience with training in reconstructive microsurgery.
