  • In order to set public policy to overcome 'water crises' on both quantity and quality of water, we looked into the national-economic role of Korea water utility by two approaches. First, we examined the relationship between water consumption and economic growth during 1978-94, a period of rapid increase in water consumption caused by prompt industrialization and urbanization. The price and income elasticities of aggregate and sectoral demand for water were estimated. Second, we developed a static input-output(I-O) framework for analysing water issues in the short run. In addition, we discussed two topics in its application: i) sectoral failure(shortage) costs by supply-driven I-O model, ii) Leontief price model's sectoral pervasive effects of price due to rise in water rate. In conclusion, we found that investments to water sector and water shortage has a big influence on the standard of living and industrial production. Also we found that raising water rate to encourage conservation or to create investment funds decreases demand for water significantly but has a small influence on overall price levels.

The purpose of this study is to give practical implications to technology-based founders. At the beginning of commercialization, 7 companies that succeeded in procuring different types of external funds were selected to conduct case analysis. The results are as follow. However, if they are involved in criminal activities such as slush fund creation, they will have to deal with them separately. As a result, To raise awareness helps to keep the company running. Recently, the companies are in a poor condition due to overseas migration. If a company does not create profits by doing business, it is a burden to continue operating and it will eventually be hard to support and destroy. The corporate crime and white-collar crime are mostly similar types, mainly because they occur in the industry. The corporate crime proceeds throughout the company and ultimately translates into corporate profits. The white-collar crime, on the other hand, is a profitable part of the individual. In the process of generating profits, the purpose and management method of slush funds is an important issue in judging whether illegal immorality of business is intended or not. In addition, in the case of the corporate crime, it seems necessary to identify the types of slush fund raising activities in addition to the investigations of the accomplices and clinical investigations, and to apply efficient investigation methods on a case-by-case basis. At present, many companies frequently migrate overseas due to the influence of domestic regulations. In this process, if it is involved in crime such as a borrowing accounts or the purpose of slush fund creation should be treated separately.

  • It is essential factor for business operation to raise funds effectively. However, in Korea, many start-ups and small businesses have difficulties in fund-raising. In recent years, crowdfunding, a new method for funding a project of individuals or organizations by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people, has been growing up simultaneously with diffusion of social media. Crowdfunding is on early stage in Korea, and the majority of projects are focused on cultural or art categories. There is high proportion of projects that have social value in start-up sector. Crowdfunding in Korea has great potential because success rate of it is much higher than its of advanced countries, although market size is much smaller than them. The purpose of this paper is to propose success strategies of crowdfunding for start-up through case study. 5 crowdfunding platforms of Korea and Kickstarter, the platform of United States were investigated. Then we checked the figures related to the operation of the whole Korean projects on start-up. Finally, we made comparison between the cases of success and failure by analyzing 8 project characteristics. The study shows that it were the differences in trustworthiness and activeness of project creator, value of reward and efforts for interactivity that have great effects on success of the project. Whereas there was no significant influence of societal contribution and sponsor engagement. The thesis provides success strategies of crowdfunding for start-up as follows. Firstly, creator of the project should make support base by enthusiastic activites before launching funding project. Secondly, there should be contents that can easily show the process of business development in the project information. Thirdly, there must be appropriate design of rewards for each amounts of support money. Finally, efforts for interactivity, such as frequent updates, response for comments and SNS posting, should be followed after the launch of the project.

  • This study examines whether successful stand-alone firms have more difficulties than the successful firms affiliated to business groups in external financing. The easiness of external financing is measured by investment-cashflow multiple. Controlling the effects on the multiple of the past business performances and the expectation of future business performances, we investigate how the ownership type affects the multiple. The empirical results show that, when cashflows are positive, the stand-alone firms exhibit higher investment-cashflow mupltiples. When cashflows are negative, however, the opposite is true, even though the statistical significance of the result is rather low. These results do not support the general idea that stand-alone firms must have more disadvantage than subsidiary firms in raising funds from outside. If member firms of business groups have no big trouble financing externally, then the above results imply that stand-alone firms do not either identify external financing as a major difficulty in running business. Thus, if the government seeks to formulate the selective policies supporting only the promising start-ups, instead of the general policies benefiting random start-ups, then the start-up financing policy should have a lower priority.
