We designed a track circuit of Tag in-tag out type that can be used for light rails and monorails. This method is called RFID-Tag and it literally uses RFID-Tag and replaces a fixed track circuit and implements a moving block. The distance between RFID-Tags is set to the length of a train and thus a train is always in contact with one of the tags. A train runs in RFID-Tag in -RFID-Tag out type at all times and the distance between trains can be precisely controlled through the application of a moving block combined with the basic principle of a fixed block, which enables the continuous speed control and enhances the satisfaction of passengers. When constructing a track circuit using RFID-Tag the Tag in-tag out brings us the cost reduction and is more economical than the existing fixed track circuit in that sense and easy for installation and maintenance. The wireless communication between onboard and wayside makes the continuous control possible and can improve the control capacity of ATP/ATO by the implementation of a moving block on top of a fixed one.
In this study, a series of geotechnical centrifugal tests were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of settlement control of two types of rigid pile structure embankments (PRSE) in collapsible loess under high-speed railway embankments. The research results show that ground reinforcement is required to reduce the post-construction settlement and settlement rate of the embankments. The rigid pile structure embankments using rigid piles can substantially reduce the embankment settlement in the construction of embankments on collapsible loess, and the efficiency in settlement reduction is affected by the pile spacing. The pile-raft structure embankments (PRSE) have much stronger ability in terms of the effectiveness of settlement control, while the pile-geogrid structure embankments (PGSE) provides rapid construction as well as economic benefits. Rational range of pile spacing of PRSE and PGSE are suggested based on the requirements of various railways design speeds. Furthermore, the time effectiveness of negative skin friction of piles and the action of pile-cap setting are also investigated. The relevant measures for improving the bearing capacity and two parts of transition zone forms as positive control mean have been suggested.
Precast assembled bridge piers with hybrid connection (PASP) use both tendons and socket connections. To study the seismic performance of PASP, a full-scale in-situ test was performed based on an actual bridge project. The elastic-plastic fiber model of PASP was established using finite element software, and numerical analyses were performed to study the influence of prestress degree and socket depth on the PASP seismic performance. The results show that the typical failure mode of PASP under horizontal load is bending failure dominated by concrete cracking at the joint between the column and cushion cap. The cracking of the pier concrete and opening of joints depend on the prestress degree and socket depth. The prestressing tendons and socket connection can provide enough ductility, strength, restoration capability, and bending strength under small horizontal displacements. Although the bearing capacity and post yield stiffness of the pier can be improved to some extent by increasing the prestressing force, ductility is reduced, and residual deformation is increased. Overall, there are reasonable minimum socket depths to ensure the reliability of the socket connection.
The inland logistics center is a large scale of logistics facility that enables roads, rails, ports, and airports to carry out chained-transports and combined-transports, and the logistics center are established at the main logistics posts in order to reduce the cost of transport by mass transportation. However, it is expected that the capacity of Euiwang ICD, the only inland logistics centers in the capital area, will reach its limit before 2015, so it is required to establish another stations or to improve the existing facility. Especially, in case of Euiwang ICD, the expansion of the center is not possible because of its position, so it is required to establish new logistics centers in other places in order to raise the capacity of transport. Therefore, this study suggests to establish new metropolitan logistics centers on the western coast line in order to solve the problem of shortage of tract capacity that is brought on by the newly established inland logistics centers on the axis of the western coastline (Song-san Station and An-jung Station), and analyzes how the new logistics center will distribute railroad cargoes. By these, this study contributes to reduce the cost of transport by providing smooth railroad transport service.
Tensile constitutive stress-strain model of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) in fib MC2010 was investigated. In order to model tensile behavior of SFRC, three point loading flexural tests were conducted on notched small beams according to BE-EN-14651. Design parameters for the constitutive model were determined from the flexural tests. Flexural test and finite element analysis were conducted on large SFRC beam without steel reinforcements and compared with each other. In addition, parametric study on the effect of compressive and tensile model, and characteristic length on flexural behavior of the SFRC beam was conducted also. In results, pre-peak load-displacement curves from the FE analysis was close to experimental curves but significant difference was shown in post-peak behavior. The reason of the difference is originated from the fact that the fiber distribution and orientation were not being properly considered in the MC2010 model. This study shows that modification and detail explanations on the orientation factor K in MC2010 might require to better reproduce the behaviour of large scale SFRC beams.

Among many types of light rail transits (LRT), the rubber-tired automated guide-way transit (AGT) is prevalent in many countries due to its advantages such as good acceleration/deceleration performance, high climb capacity, and reduction of noise and vibration. However, AGT is generally powered by high-voltage electric power feeding system and it may cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) to measurement sensors. The fiber optic sensor system is free from EMI and has been successfully applied in many applications of civil engineering. Especially, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are the most widely used because of their excellent multiplexing capabilities. This paper investigates a prestressed concrete girder bridge in the Korean AGT test track using FBG based sensors to monitor the dynamic response at various vehicle speeds. The serviceability requirements provided in the specification are also compared against the measured results. The results show that the measured data from FBG based sensors are free from EMI though electric sensors are not, especially in the case of electric strain gauge. It is expected that the FBG sensing system can be effectively applied to the LRT railway bridges that suffered from EMI.

Long subsea tunnel to be built below the seabed, as compared to the general railway tunnel, is subject to many restrictions in terms of spatial limitation when vertical or inclined shafts are built for the purpose of ventilation and fire safety. So, the construction of some artificial island is required to provide ventilation. But, because of construction difficulty and cost increase, it is necessary to minimize the artificial island construction. The longer ventilation distance is, the more fresh air requirement is needed. When supply airflow becomes excessive, duct size is restricted by the limitations of structure clearance and fan pressure and power increase exponentially. Therefore, in order to build a long subsea tunnel, it is necessary to overcome these practical problems and to develop technical solution that can keep the comfortable condition of tunnel environment during construction. In this study, as on ventilation method development suitable for long subsea tunnel, through comparison of temporary ventilation capacity calculation methods during construction phase, domestic and abroad, the application of Swiss SIA 196 code is found suitable for long subsea tunnel. And, through experiment on leakage of the duct connector, we confirmed that the leakage ratio per 100 m of domestic duct connection type is between 1.5~3.0%. Based on S-class duct of SIA 196 code, ventilation distance is 10.2 km, So, ventilation distance can be longer if duct connection method is improved. So, we confirmed that the improvement of leakage ratio is key issue in the construction-phase ventilation of long subsea tunnel.
Clinker layer is a stratum structure distributed in volcanic area such as Jeju Island. The clinker layers were formed in between the repetitive action of eruption and solidification of lava flows. Since the clinker layer contains a large amount of voids accompanied by the lava gas ejection process, there is a possibility of inducing overall stability of the ground due to the low stiffness and strength of the clinker layer. Therefore, in this study, site investigation was carried out at both ends of the 00 bridge where the clinker layers exist. And, based on the ground survey results, the behavior of shallow foundations was analyzed numerically. In addition, the improved shallow foundation behavior in grouting substitution using the chemical injection method of the clinker layer was compared with the shallow foundation behavior in the ground, and the grouting substitution efficiency of each layer was analyzed. As a result, the bearing capacity, the replacement efficiency and elastic settlement were different according to the presence or absence of the sediment layer. This is because the sediment layer has a lower stiffness and density than the clinker layer.

A battery is an important part of the component, as a power source of the control of rolling stock at starting movement or emergency control. Now widely used batteries are Ni-Cd batteries and lead accumulators, and these are increasingly getting smaller and lighter. In addition, the electric capacity required is increasing, due to the development of electronic control technology of rolling stock. Therefore, various kinds of high-efficiency battery are considered for the new routes' rolling stock, but rolling stock's batteries should be fully tested to prove safety and also have no difficulty in terms of management, so because of the requirement, it is difficult to be in practical application. In this paper, we will survey cases of applying battery to rolling stock and then we will review whether there is any problem about safety and performance, management to discuss future trend of batteries.
Woven geotextiles (polyester mats) reinforcement is generally used to improve traffic ability, bearing capacity, and slope stability for embankment construction on soft ground. Cases of two high-strength woven geotextiles reinforcement layers are introduced in the present paper, which has been successfully constructed for rail road embankment on soft ground. According to the case results based on the limit equilibrium analyses of slope stability, the two high-strength woven geotextiles reinforcement layers on the soft ground can substantially increase the stability of the embankment by about 25%, improve the safety factor from 0.91 to 1.14, and significantly reduce the embankment construction duration at least 2 months. Therefore, the application of high-strength woven geotextiles is found to be useful for in-situ cases having the lack of construction duration and stability, as a soft ground improvement.
