FUEL PROPERTIES AND EMISSIONS CHARACTERISTICS OF ETHANOL-DIESEL BLEND ON SMALL DIESEL ENGINE

  • Phase separation and low cetane number are the main barriers to the large-scale use of ethanol-diesel blend fuel on small diesel engines. In this paper, an additive package is designed on the basis of the blended fuel properties to overcome these limitations. The experiments show that the solubility of ethanol in diesel is evidently increased by adding $1{\sim}2%$ (in volume) of the additive package and the flammability of ethanol-diesel blend fuel with the additive has reached the neat diesel level under the cold start conditions. Effects of the ethanol content in diesel on fuel economy, combustion characteristics, and emission characteristics are also investigated with the ethanol blend ratios of 10%, 20% and 30%. The increase in ethanol content shows that the specific fuel consumption and the brake thermal efficiency are both gradually increased compared to neat diesel. The soot concentrations of the three blended fuels are all greatly lower than that of neat diesel. $NO_x$ emission is increased with an increase in the engine load and is reduced with the increase in the ethanol blend ratio under a high load.

  • With the spread of mobile devices and advances in communication techknowledges, the needs of application which uses the movement patterns of moving objects in history trajectory data of moving objects gets Increasing. Especially, to design public transportation route or road network of the new city, we can use the similar patterns in the trajectories of moving objects that move on the spatial network such as road and railway. In this paper, we propose a spatio-temporal similar trajectory search algorithm for moving objects on road network. For this, we define a spatio-temporal similarity measure based on the real road network distance and propose a grid-based index structure for similar trajectory search. Finally, we analyze the performance of the proposed similar trajectory search algorithm in order to show its efficiency.

  • VE of the scripture season enterprises and it respected LCC analyzes from the research which it sees and to use AHP techniques and definite LCC techniques and probabilistic LCC techniques selects the optimum route the case study which it executed. It presented the quality rating model in about the resultant most route lascivious at the time of VE evaluation, in order to select the alternative of optimum AHP techniques which are one in decision-making technique and an evaluation item by weight and a grade it applied the mountaintop it did. Also the definite LCC analyzer law departments of existing together it applied the probabilistic LCC techniques which use Monte Carlo Simulation in about analytical prices and reliability height boil. The economical efficiency was excellent with VE/LCC analytical resultant route and facility size abridgment, the rivers most it will be able to minimize an environmental effect with short distance traverse, the selection this hit preparation LCC which separates from the land use side decreased, the value (V) above 22.0% with the fact that it improves. And, the reliability of the probabilistic LCC analytical resultant analytical results in compliance with Monte Carlo Simulation with 90.3% was very analyzed with the fact that it is a high level.

  • In the braking of a railroad car, mechanical brake systems using wheel tread and brake disk are applied as well as electrical brake systems by regenerator and rheostat. During disk braking, kinetic energy of the vehicle is converted into thermal energy through friction between disk and brake pad. And it causes high temperature concentration and generates thermal crack on the brake disk surface. In this study, comparative test process for heat-resistance of candidate materials was designed for development of brake disk materials having high heat-resistance. We also verified the efficiency of the process by experiments using conventional brake disk materials.

  • The next generation of Korean high-speed train under development will be designed for the maximum operating speed of 350km/h and maximum speed of 400km/h. This high-speed operation may cause the noise and vibration problems around tunnel exit due to the higher micro-pressure wave than present level. In this study, the nose shape optimization was conducted for the countermeasure against these problems. Axi-symmetric solver was used for numerical simulation, and response surface was used for efficiency of optimization process. Also the multi-step optimization was conducted to find out more accurate optimal shape. Through these analysis and optimization, it was found out that the optimal nose shapes for minimization of micro-pressure wave are definitely different along the nose length variation. And the mechanism of micro-pressure wave reduction was closely investigated by the analysis of generation process of compression wave in tunnel. The results are expected to be used as design guideline for performance improvement of the next generatin of Korean high-speed train.

  • After the KTX operation Korail has been making great effort to reliability settlement through RCM. Also maintenance cycle and method optimization for normal speed rolling stock field are lively same as high-speed rolling stock. In this paper maintenance techniques for new model electric locomotive are introduced. To find the optimal maintenance method, locomotive inspection cycle for advanced country are examined and other electric locomotive inspection cycle are compared. As a result the present time inspection cycle is totally focusing on safety aspect so the economical efficiency is quite low. Through this research optimal maintenance technique will be accomplished in the end of year 2008.

  • The modern logistics has tried not only to convert the conventional packing system into unit load system using pallet but also to enhance the fitness between packing facilities and transport modes. This is based on the goal to reduce total logistics cost using logistics efficiency. Because the packing unit can affect on both loading rate and loading facilities, the basic form of packing unit is very important to the unit load system. In Korea, the standardization of logistics has been centered on pallet, and the basic condition will be continued except of the variety of standardized pallet form. Because of this, to enhance the standardization of pallet, it is necessary to develop new standard size and form of pallet. The object of this study is to develop a new method of collecting the effectiveness of standardized packing module. The new method is based on measure of effectiveness (MOE) which can be developed by expert survey. This study has originality from the fact that the collecting method for effectiveness of pallet standardization has not been developed up to now.

  • Recently the roles of railways about the prevention of global warming caused by greenhouse gases and for low carbon green growth are larger than ever. And the railroad-related research institutions have been active in researching for energy conservation. Especially the urban railroad has been emerged as the best means of transportation compared to the general public transportation systems in punctuality, stability, ecology and etc. In operating the urban railroad system there are various ways for energy savings. In the larger category, One is the hardware aspect according to the structure of the vehicle and the development of control systems. The other is the software aspect which efficient train operation can be made through control of driving patterns and driving diagram. In this paper, there is sense to analyze the result in verifying expectation relation with variable and the use of electric power on this after selecting main variables that can influence to the energy of the train operation in the software aspect. First, after collecting the basic data related to operation(train speed, operating hours, power consumption, the position of stopping station, electrical power system etc.) and according to this, investigating the consumption of the energy of the operation, in the side of energy consumption deducing and analyzing problem, this will be found solutions.
