A Study on the Injection Rate Observer of the Piezo-actuated and Solenoid-operated Injectors for CRDI Diesel Engines (직분식 커먼레일 디젤엔진의 피에조 인젝터와 솔레노이드 인젝터의 연료분사율 추정)

  • Fuel injection system greatly affects the performance of a direct injection diesel engine. A common rail injection system was introduced to satisfy the stringent emission standards, low fuel consumption, and low noise in recent years. The performance of a common-rail fuel injection system is strongly influenced by the injector characteristics. The common rail injector has evolved in order to improve its injection performance. The piezo-actuated injector is more suitable for common rail injection system due to its fast response and is expected to replace current solenoid-operated injector. In this study, nonlinear mathematical models are proposed for the solenoid-operated and the piezo-actuated injectors for control applications. Based on these models, the injection rate, which is one of the most important factors for the injection characteristics, is estimated using sliding mode observer. The simulation results and the experimental data show that the proposed sliding mode observers can effectively estimate the injection timing and the injection rate for both common-rail injectors.

A Study on Determination of the Minimum Vertical Spring Stiffness of Track Pads in Korea High Speed Railway. (고속철도 궤도패드의 최소 수직 스프링계수 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Railway noise and vibration has been recognized as major problems with the speed-up of rolling stock. As a kind of solution to these problems, the decrease of stiffness of track pad have been tried. However, in this case, overturning of rail due to lateral force should be considered because it can have effect on the safety of running train. Therefore, above two things - decrease of stiffness of track pad and overturning of rail due to lateral force - should be considered simultaneously for the appropriate determination of spring coefficient of track pad. With this viewpoint, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated through the comparison between the theoretical relationship about the overturning of rail and 3-dimensional FE analysis result. Two kinds of Lateral force and wheel load are used as input loads. Extracted values from the conventional estimation formula and the Shinkansen design loads are used. It is found that the overturning of rail changes corresponding to the change of the stiffness of track pad and the ratio of lateral force to wheel load. Moreover, it is found that the analysis model can have influence on the results. Through these procedure, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated.

  • The capability of pilot injection with small fuel quantity at all engine operating conditions is one of the main feature of the common rail system. The purpose of the pilot injection is to lower the engine noise and to reduce the NOx emissions. This study describes the pilot spray structure characteristics of the common-rail diesel injectors, solenoid-driven and piezo-driven type, with different electric driving characteristics So, three common-rail injectors with different electric current wave were used in this study. The pilot spray characteristics such as spray speed, spray tip penetration, and spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the back diffusion light illumination method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. Also the CFD analysis was carried out for fuel behavior under high pressure in between needle and nozzle of solenoid-driven injector to know the condition of initial injection at experiment test. It was found that pilot injection of common-rail system was effected by rate of injection and temperature of injected fuel and electrical characteristic of the driven injector.

  • Among the material handling system, EMS (Electric Monorail System), which is the facility of transferring the material hanging on truss, has the strength point of the maximum utilization of working space and the improvement of working environment including low-level noise generation. This paper will introduce the variable method of EMS rail analysis, which has the main role of supporting the whole material weight and guiding them with high-speed transportation, and, based on the analysis, the direction of optimization of the rail design be described. The rail with light-weight and high-strength contributes the reduction of the load of truss, the cost-down of rail production and the easy-installation on site.

  • Dynamic response of ground due to train loads is analyzed. A numerical procedure based on finite element method is used to solve two-dimensional ground response. Dynamic train loads assumed in analysis is the point acceleration on train rail with magnitude of 2330 gal and thickness of surface of soil layer assumed is 60cm. In order to consider the effect of acceleration point, dynamic responses such as response acceleration and displacement are computed as a function of distance from acceleration point on rail. In addition, simple methods which reduce dynamic effects on ground are also proposed.

  • Tilting bogie system allow the train to pass curve at higher speed without affecting passenger comfort. As the tilting trains offer the optimum means of providing faster and more comfortable rail service with minimum of environmental disturbance and capital investment, mere than 14 countries have now adopted or are about to adopt tilting train technology. The Korean National Railroad is also planing to apply faster tilting train to the areas where the High speed rail service are not provided. This paper describes the parametric study to achieve the optimal suspension parameters of the Bogie for 180 km/h Korean Tilting Train(TTX) from the view point of the vertical and lateral vibration reduction.

  • This paper analyzes the pitting's cause of elevator's worm gear type traction machine. To find a cause of pitting problem, we analyzed vibration, a proper design allowance and lubrication. We brought a conclusion that the cause of pitting is not a simple vibration problem, such as misalignment of worm reducer and rail, but mostly related to a designed allowance. In this case, the allowance is tight. In general, the allowance of traction machine and lubrication is varied by manufacturers. When the allowance is tight, a proper lubrication can diminish the pitting problem.

  • An interest is increased of environment and energy so, importance on railroad high energy efficiency is magnified. And after Gyeong-bu High speed rail is completed, share rate freight transportation of railroad is expected to be gradually increased due to expand investment for railroad and operate mainly freight transportation on convention line. Therefore a research on DMT freight cars is necessary under like this situation. In paper, we developed analysis model for DMT freight car and DMT freight was analyzed numerically using VI-Rail in each condition of railway having different curve and carried out vibration analysis on curving using developed analysis model. And we carried out test on driving stability follow changing curve radius then measure against UIC code 518.

  • 철도소음의 전파예측을 위한 예측모델의 작성에 매우 중요한 요소가 되는 주행열차로부터의 소음방사특성에 대하여 음향인텐시티법을 이용하여 검토하였다. 그리고 검토결과를 근거로 하여 평탄지 선로를 주행하는 열차를 유한길이의 지향성 점음원열로 가정하고, 지향성계수별(n)로 소음레벨을 구하여 실측치와의 대응성에 대하여 검토하였다. 또한 모터차량이 소음발생에 미치는 영향에 대해서도 검토하였다.
