  • RMQC, rail mounted quay crane, lifts and moves large container by means of hoist and trolley motion on the dock. Our company is trying to develop advanced RMQC applying the concepts of elevator hoist and container conveyer for the automation and high efficiency in handling the boxes. Prior to the development of new products, it is necessary to check the capacity of conventional crane for reference. The program simulates container-handling rates and gives some design factors for the conventional cranes.

  • The characteristics of roadbed are very important factors in the design of railways. Laboratory model tests were performed to investigate the effectiveness of geogrid placement in the subbase layers on reinforcement. Design parameters of reinforcement were determined through the laboratory model tests. The results indicated that geogrid reinforcement is increased the bearing capacity and reduced the settlement of railway foundation. The optimum length of geogrid reinforcement is about 4B. The effective depth of geogrid placement from the bottom of ballast is about 0.1B-0.2B depended on magnitude of applied load.

  • In Korea, the pilot construction of the first high-speed railroad on the Seoul-Pusan has already started 2 years ago. In the thesis, an attempt is made to develop reliability-based integrity-assessment models for the computer-aided control and maintenance of high-speed railroad bridges. The strength limit state models for PC railroad bridges encompass the bending and shear strengths as well as the strength interaction equations which simultaneously take into the element and system reliablities of the proposed limit states and reliability models. Then, the actual load carrying capacity and the realistic safety of bridges are evaluated using the system reliability-based equivalent strength, and the results are compared with those of the element reliability-based or conventional methods. Various parametric studies are performed for the proposed reliability-based safety and integrity-assessment models using the actual PC box girder bridges used in the pilot construction. And the sensitivity analyses are performed for the basic random variables included in strength limit state models. It is concluded that proposed models may be practically applied for the rational assessment of safety and integrity of high speed railroad bridges.

  • This paper presents on capacity design of DC-fed-traction system. The system is introduced including a characteristics of train, feeding network configuration, and design method of substation arrangements. Optimal design procedures is described, and program for capacity computation of the system is presented using the nodal equation, K.C.L, K.V.L, Ohm's law and superposition theory. For the proof of the proposed algorithm, we accomplished the simulation of DC traction system for HA-Nam LRT. By considering whole component in DC traction system the conclusion will be much precise.

Experimental and analytical behavior of a prestressed U-shaped girder bridge

  • This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation on the behavior of a U-shaped girder subjected to operation, cracking and ultimate loads. A full-scale destructive test was conducted on a U-shaped girder to study the cracking process, load-carrying capacity, failure mechanism and load-deformation relationships. Accordingly, the tested U-shaped girder was modeled using ANSYS and a non-linear element analysis was conducted. The investigation shows that the U-shaped girder meets the specified requirements of vertical stiffness, cracking and ultimate load capacity. Unfavorable torsional effect is tolerable during operation. However, compared with box girders, the U-shaped girder has a more transverse mechanical effect and longitudinal cracks are apt to occur in the bottom slab.

  • Wireless mobile communication systems in subway tunnels have been widely researched these years, due to increased demand for the communication applications. As a result, an accurate model is essential to effectively evaluate the communication system performance. Thus, a neoteric three-dimensional (3D) geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) is proposed for the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels in tunnel environment. Furthermore, the statistical properties of the channel such as space-time correlation, amplitude and phase probability density are analyzed and compared with those of the traditional two-dimensional (2D) model by numerical simulations. Finally, the ergodic capacity is investigated based on the proposed model. Numerical results show that the proposed model can describe the channel in tunnels more practically.

Measuring the Connectivity of Nodes in Road Networks (도로 네트워크의 노드 연계성 산정에 관한 연구)

  • This study proposes a model for measuring the connectivity of nodes in road networks. The connectivity index between two nodes is characterized by the number of routes, degree of circuitousness, design speed, and route capacity between the nodes. The connectivity index of a node is then defined as the weighted average of the connectivity indexes between the node and other nodes under consideration. The weighting factor between two nodes is determined by the travel demand and distance between them. The application of the model to a toy network shows that it reasonably well quantifies the level of connectivity of nodes in the network. If flow of rail networks can be measured in the same scale as that of road networks and the capacity of rail links can be estimated, the model proposed in this paper could be applied to intermodal transportation networks as well.

  • Reliance on road transport in domestic logistics can lead to intensified congestion and greenhouse gas emissions due to the rise in oil prices, any increase in logistics costs can have a high social cost. The government policy on Low Carbon Green Growth is seeking to take advantage of the railway system. However, existing railway transport logistics systems, for reasons such as low speed, low track capacity constraints, and the impossibility of implementing a Door to Door system, make it difficult to activate a railway logistics program. As a result of this study, a national R&D project to develop a High-Speed Passenger/Baggage Mixed Train(Hy-SoBex) utilizing the rail capacity constraints to overcome the difficulties of linking an air cargo and freight railway logistics system, we propose a variety of service models and select the optimal service model.

Evaluation of the Roadbed Behavior During Tilting-train Operation in Curved Track Using Numerical Analysis (틸팅차량의 곡선부 운행시 수치해석을 이용한 노반거동 평가)

  • The tilting-train is very attractive to the railroad users in the world because it runs with high speed in curved track using pre-existing infrastructure. The tilting-train has a unique allowable speed and mechanism expecially in curved track. Therefore, it should be evaluated in terms of the stability of the train operation and roadbed. In this study, when the tilting-train is being operated with the allowable speed, the behavior of the roadbed is evaluated by examining the settlement and bearing capacity of the roadbed. Additionally, the stability of the roadbed is estimated in the condition of soft roadbed influenced by the weather effects and cyclic train loading. The numerical results show that the roadbed settlements satisfy the allowable settlement when Young's moduli of the upper roadbed and in-situ soil are more than $2,300t/m^2\;and\;3,300t/m^2$, respectively, in the continuous welded rail (CWR) and $3,800t/m^2\;and\;4,600t/m^2$, respectively, in the rail joint.
