Radiometric calibration of optical image data is necessary to convert raw digital number (DN) value of each pixel into a physically meaningful measurement (radiance). To extract rather quantitative information regarding biophysical characteristics of the earth surface materials, radiometric calibration is often essential procedure. A sensor detects the radiation of sunlight interacted atmospheric constituents. Therefore, the amount of the energy reaching at the sensor is quite different from the initial amount reflected from the surface. To achieve the target reflectance after atmospheric correct, an initial step is to convert DN value to at-sensor radiance. A linear model, the simplest radiometric model, is applied to averaged spectral radiance for this conversion. This study purposes to analyze the sensitivity of several factors affecting on radiance for carrying out absolute radiometric calibration of panchromatic images from KOMPSAT2 launched at July, 2006. MODTRAN is used to calculate radiance at sensor and reflectance of target is measured by a portable spectro-radiometer at the same time the satellite is passing the target for the radiometric calibration. As using different contents of materials composing of atmosphere, the differences of radiance are investigated. Because the spectral sensitivity of panchromatic images of KOMPSAT2 ranges from 500 to 900 nm, the materials causing scattering in visible range are mainly considered to analyze the sensitivity. According to the verified sensitivity, direct measurement can be recommenced for absolute radiometric calibration.
Although EOC data have been frequently used in several applications since the launch of the KOMPSAT-1 satellite in 1999, its radiometric characteristics are not clear due to the inherent limitations of the on-board calibration system. The radiometric characteristics of remotely sensed imagery can be measured by the sensitivity of radiant flux coming from various surface features on the earth. The objective of this study is to analyze the radiometric characteristics of EOC data by simulating the sensor- received radiance. Initially, spectral reflectance values of reference targets were measured on the ground by using a portable spectre-radiometer at the EOC spectrum. A radiative transfer model, LOWTRAN, then simulated the sensor-received radiance values of the same reference target. By correlating the digital number (DN) extracted from the EOC image to the corresponding radiance values simulated from LOWTRAN, we could find the radiometric calibration coefficients for EOC image. The radiometric gain coefficients of EOC are very similar to those of other panchromatic optical sensors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a radiometric analysis of radicular cysts and periapical granulomas is useful in the differential diagnosis. In this experiment, twenty-nine periapical radiographs of the radicular cyst and those periapical granuloma were used. The periapical radiography was taken by intraoral paralleling device. The X-ray film was digitized and digitally filtered to reduce film-grain noise. We estimated density difference of the inner/outer area, roundness or circularity, bone profile or scan line of the margin and cumulative percentage frequency curve of radicular cyst & periapical granuloma. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The differences in density between ROIs of inner and outer area of radicular cysts were smaller than those of periapical granulomas. 2. The equivalent circular diameter was over 6.3mm, there was significant difference between periapical cyst and periapical granuloma. 3. In differential diagnosis of radicular cyst and periapical granuloma using bone profile. sensitivity. specificity and accuracy were considerably high(0.83. 0.86. 0.86) respectively. 4. Cumulative percentage frequency curve of the radicular cyst was closer to the pseudo-pixel value of 50 than average curve, whereas periapical granuloma was closer to that of 0. Hence we conclude that digital radiometric features might be useful in the differential diagnosis between radicular cyst and periapical granuloma.
The primary objective of this study is to develop a suitable methodology to generate forest leaf area index (LAI) map at regional and local scales. To build empirical models, we collected the LAI values at 30 sample plots over the forest within the kyongan watershed area by the field measurements using an optical instrument. Landsat-7 ETM+ multispectral data obtained at the same growing season with the field LAI measurement were used. Three datasets of remote sensing signal were prepared for analyzing the relationship with the field measured LAI value and they include raw DN, atmospherically corrected reflectance, and topographically corrected reflectance. From the correlation analysis and regression model development, we found that the radiometric correction of topographic effects was very critical step to increase the sensitivity of the multispectral reflectance to LAI. In addition, the empirical model to generate forest LAI map should be separately developed for each of coniferous and deciduous forest.

The pyranometer for observing the solar radiation reaching the surface of the earth is manufactured by various companies around the world. The sensitivity of the pyranometer at the observatory is required to be properly controlled based on the reference value of the World Radiometric Center (WRC) and the observatory environment; otherwise, the observational data may be subject to a large error. Since the sensitivity of the pyranometer can be calibrated in an indoor or outdoor calibration, this study used a CSTMUSS-4000C Integrating Sphere by Labsphere Inc. (USA) to calibrate the sensitivity of CMP22 pyranometer by Kipp&Zonen Inc. (Netherlands). Consequently, the factory sensitivity of CMP22 was corrected from $8.68{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$ to $8.98{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$, and the result from the outdoor calibration according to the observatory environment was $8.90{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$. After the indoor calibration of the pyranometer sensitivity, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the observational data at the observatory on a clear day without clouds (July 13, 2017) was $7.11Wm^{-2}$ in comparison to the reference pyranometer. After the outdoor calibration of the pyranometer sensitivity based on these results, the RMSE of the observational data was $1.74Wm^{-2}$ on the same day. Periodic inspections are required because the decrease of sensitivity over time is inevitable in the pyranometer data produced at the observatory. The initial sensitivity after indoor calibration ($8.98{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$) is important, and the sensitivity after outdoor calibration ($8.90{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1})$ can be compared to the data at the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) or can be used for various studies and daily applications.
G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute an important class of drug targets and are involved in every aspect of human physiology including sleep regulation, blood pressure, mood, food intake, perception of pain, control of cancer growth, and immune response. Radiometric assays have been the classic method used during the search for potential therapeutics acting at various GPCRs for most GPCR-based drug discovery research programs. An increasing number of diverse small molecules, together with novel GPCR targets identified from genomics efforts, necessitates the use of high-throughput assays with a good sensitivity and specificity. Currently, a wide array of high-throughput tools for research on GPCRs is available and can be used to study receptor-ligand interaction, receptor driven functional response, receptor-receptor interaction, and receptor internalization. Many of the assay technologies are based on luminescence or fluorescence and can be easily applied in cell based models to reduce gaps between in vitro and in vivo studies for drug discovery processes. Especially, cell based models for GPCR can be efficiently employed to deconvolute the integrated information concerning the ligand-receptor-function axis obtained from label-free detection technology. This review covers various platform technologies used for the research of GPCRs, concentrating on the principal, non-radiometric homogeneous assay technologies. As current technology is rapidly advancing, the combination of probe chemistry, optical instruments, and GPCR biology will provide us with many new technologies to apply in the future.
The data from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II), which observes the color of the sea to monitor marine environments, undergoes various correction processes in the ground station system, producing data from Raw to Level-2 (L2). Quality issues arising at each processing stage accumulate step by step, leading to an amplification of errors in the satellite data. To address this, improvements were made to the GOCI-II ground station system to measure potential optical quality and geolocation accuracy errors in the Level-1A/B (L1A/B) data. A newly established Radiometric and Geometric Performance Assessment Module (RGPAM) now measures five optical quality factors and four geolocation accuracy factors in near real-time. Testing with GOCI-II data has shown that RGPAM's functions, including data processing, display and download of measurement results, work well. The performance metrics obtained through RGPAM are expected to serve as foundational data for real-time radiometric correction model enhancements, assessment of L1 data quality consistency, and the development of reprocessing strategies to address identified issues related to the GOCI-II detector's sensitivity degradation.

The article deals with the problems of application of microwave methods in systems of geoecological monitoring of natural environments and resources of the agro-industrial complex. It is noted that the methods of microwave radiometry make it possible, by the power of the measured intrinsic radio-thermal radiation of the atmosphere, when solving inverse problems using empirical and semi-empirical models, to determine such parameters of the atmosphere as thermodynamic temperature, humidity, water content, moisture content, precipitation intensity, and the presence of different fractions of clouds. In addition to assessing the meteorological parameters of the atmosphere and the geophysical parameters of the underlying surface based on the data of microwave radiometric measurements, it is possible to promptly detect and study pollution of both the atmosphere and the earth's surface. A technique has been developed for the analysis of sources of measurement error and their numerical evaluation, because they have a significant effect on the accuracy of solving inverse problems of reconstructing the values of the physical parameters of the probed media. To analyze the degree of influence of the limited spatial selectivity of the antenna of the microwave radiometric system on the measurement error, we calculated the relative measurement error of the ratio of radio brightness contrasts in two angular directions. It has been determined that in the system of geoecological monitoring of natural environments, the effect of background noise is maximal with small changes in the radiobrightness temperature during angular scanning and high sensitivity of the receiving equipment.

The Communication Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS) as the one of the national space program has been developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARl). The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is one of the main payloads ofCOMS which will provide consistent monitoring of ocean-colour around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. The ocean color observation from geostationary platform is required to remedy the coverage constraints imposed by polar orbiting platforms. In this paper the main characteristics of GOCI are described and compared with the current ocean color sensors. The GOCI will provide the measurement data of 6 visible channels and 2 nearinfrared channels (40Onm - 900nm). The high radiometric sensitivity is essential of ocean color sensor because of the weak water leaving radiance.
The diagnosis of tuberculosis is usually established using staining and culturing techniques. Fluorescent stains have improved the sensitivity of direct microscopy. Improved culture media coupled with radiometric means of detecting early mycobacterial growth have shortened the time needed for cultural diagnosis. Rapid immunodiagnostic techniques based on the detection of mycobacterial antigen or of antibodies to theses antigens have not, however, come into widespread clinical use. The DNA or RNA hybridization tests with labeled specific probes which have been described so far are not sensitive enough to be used for clinical speicimens without prior culturing. The advent of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has opened new possibilities for diagnosis of microbial infections. This technique has already been applied to a number of microorganisms. In the field of mycobacteria the PCR has been used to identify and to detect DNAs extracted from various mycobacteria. However, despite the extraordinary enthusiasm surrounding this technique and the considerable investiment, PCR has not emerged from the developmental "trenches" in the passed several years. It may be a considerable lenth of time before clinical microbiology laboratories become PCR playgrounds because many details remain to be worked out.
