  • Tritium and $^{14}C$ are two most important radionuclides released from nuclear facilities to the environment, and $^{14}C$ contributes dominant radiation dose to the population around nuclear power plants. This paper presents an overview of the production, pathway, species and levels of tritium and $^{14}C$ in nuclear facilities, mainly nuclear power plants. The methods for sampling and collection of different species of tritium and $^{14}C$ in the discharge gas from the stack in the nuclear facilities, atmosphere of the nuclear facilities and environment are presented, and the features of different methods are reviewed. The on-line monitoring methods of gaseous tritium and $^{14}C$ in air and laboratory measurement methods for sensitive determination of tritium and $^{14}C$ in collected samples, water and environmental solid samples are also discussed in detailed. Meanwhile, the challenges in the determination and speciation analysis of tritium and $^{14}C$ are also highlighted.

  • As radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer and is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, it is essential for the public to be aware of what radon is, and how to manage radon. Therefore, general information on radon, as well as its health risks, measurement methods, mitigation methods and suggestions for its management are addressed in this article. Over the last one to two decades, a number of wide-ranging studies on radon measurement and mitigation have been conducted in Korea, and the results of each study are comparable to the research achievements of other developed countries. For this reason, it is time to systematically establish a well-made Korean radon management organization.

  • To broaden the utilization of nuclear energy, uranium as a fuel should be mined indispensably. Mining accounts for the largest portion of the cost of producing the uranium assembly. Therefore, this study analyzes the trends of uranium prices, which have a significant impacts on the mining cost. Uranium production contributing to the price fluctuations is explained in five periods from 1945 to the present. Moreover, the series of events affecting uranium prices from the 1970s until the present are verified. Among them, the most recent incidents considered in this study are the following: COVID-19 pandemic, Kazakhstan unrest, and Russia-Ukraine war. European countries have started to reconsider the transition to nuclear power to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas, which has contributed to the surge in uranium prices. Based on the results of this study, various international issues have been closely associated with the nuclear power industry and uranium, affecting the production of uranium and its price.

  • Radon is produced after the Uranium-238 and thorium-232 undergone radioactive decay process is a colorless, odorless inert gas is stored in a basement or an enclosed space. Building materials are made by a rock or soil materials. Form of radon gas is introduced into the lungs through the respiratory tract and deposited in the lungs or bronchial Daughter nuclides radon causes lung cancer. In this study, To subject the Constructed Apartment in Gwangju Gwangsan-Gu, the position is closed window and opened window was measured using a measuring instrument for radon. The measured results indicate that the measurement was carried out in concentrations of radon gas measured at Newly Constructed Apartment is low than United states in the radon concentration in air public 4 pCi called radon gas baseline maximum allowable concentrations. The exposure caused by radon concentration of new construction apartment when on the measurement results is expected to be insignificant. However, when radon gas like this is that it accumulates in the body and lungs get damaged due to exposure, such as lung cancer often open the windows to reduce the radon concentration measurements, such as in radiation protection aspects to the ventilation to reduce exposure it is considered necessary.

  • For dry storage of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) stored in the storage pool of a nuclear power plant, essentially all moisture must be removed to prevent corrosion of the assembly and canister internals and/or degradation of fuel cladding integrity after SNF canister loading operation. R&D work is now in progress on a forced gas drying system that can be used to remove residual water in canisters. In this work, preliminary design is performed to manufacture the forced gas drying system. This process includes a case study of dry methods for canister moisture removal, relative codes and standards, confirmation of adequate dryness, needs analysis at plant sites, and characteristics of SNF stored in pools. Through this preliminary design work, we obtained a conceptual flow diagram and preliminary P&ID of the forced gas drying system. The results of this study can be used to determine details of the design to manufacture the forced gas drying system.

  • In the our country, especially in Yeongil and Wolsung area, abundant authigenic zeolites are found from the tuffaceous sediments and volcanic rocks of Miocene age showing wide variation in their mineralogy and abundance from horizon to horizon. The principal zeolite species identified are clinopti-lolite. mordenite. heulandite. ferrierite, and erionite. etc. Zeolite minerals are widely used in many countries in the following applications; (a) in air separation adsorption processes; (b)as desiccants; (c)in inorganic building materials; (d)in papermaking; (e)in fertilizers; (f)as soilconditioners-this application is based upon the ability of the zeolite to ion exchange with soil nutrients; (g)in the treatment of radioactive wastes; and (h)as adsorbents for toxic gases, etc. In the present paper, using natural zeolite mordenite treated with IN hydrochloric acid or IN sodium chloride solution as column packings, separation characteristics of argon, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and methane gases have been studied by gas chromatography. By the use of mordenite treated with hydrochloric acid solution, the tailing peak of methane showed from untreated mordenite was satisfactorily reduced, although it was difficult to separate it from carbon monoxide with a column activated at $300^{\circ}C$. Using a column activated at $350^{\circ}C$, methane could be separated from carbon monoxide easily but only carbon monoxide eluted as a bad defined peak. Mordenite treated with sodium chloride solution was generally similar to chromatograms obtained by using the untreated mordenite. Both the above chemical treatments of mordenite had little effect on the separations of argon and nitrogen. The separations and the HETP values obtained from natural zeolite mordenite treated with continuously hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride solutions were almost identical with those obtained with synthetic molecular sieve 5A zeolite. On the other hand, the efficiency of column was good in the range 20~3Oml/min of the carrier helium gas rate.

  • The radioactive gas radon ($^{222}Rn$), which is generated from the decay process of uranium ($^{238}U$) originating from the soil of more than 85 percent higher the porosity of the soil, the soil can radiate out the possibility that many isotopes. In order to protect the human body from radon, above all, the development of accurate measurement techniques to formulate appropriate measures should be followed. This study Gamma-ray spectrometry using a high purity germanium (HPGe) detector, if you want to measure radon unstable the nature radiation of the background problems can be reduced, radium and radon daughter nuclides after radioactive equilibrium leads to Radon concentration was measured, the soil samples from the Gamma-ray emitting nuclides, and the energy spectrum is analyzed.

  • Radon which is natural component of air is a colorless and odorless radioactive gas. Radon exposure can also occur from some building materials if they are made from radon-containing substances by breathing. In this study, The radiation dose of radon concentration was detected at 8 buildings of the A university during 3-month from June. 2017 to August. 2017. We detected indoor radon exposure at 8 building of the university and estimated annual effective dose. The radon concentration of Hall G and Hall F of the A university represented 81 and $14Bq/m^3$ respectively and average indoor radon concentration represented $41.63Bq/m^3$. Average effective dose was estimated 0.40 mSv/y, maximum effective dose was 0.78 mSv/y and minimum effective dose was 0.13 mSv/y respectively. University is the place that students spend the almost whole time. We suggest ventilation and appropriate management of a building, which could reduce the natural radiation exposure by radon concentration.
