  • The localization of mobile robot in environment is a major concern in mobile robot navigation. So, many kinds of localization techniques have been researched for several years. Among them, the positioning system using ultrasound has received attention. Most of these ultrasonic positioning systems to synchronize the transmitters and receivers are used for RF (Radio Frequencies). However, due to the use of RF, the interference problems can not be avoided and the performance of radio frequencies directly affects the positioning performance. So we proposed the ultrasonic positioning system without synchronizing RF. The proposed system is based on existing USAT (Ultrasonic Satellite System) adopted infrastructure transmitting type, and consists of transmitter and receiver synchronizing modules instead of the radio frequency transmitters and receiver. The ultrasonic transmitters and receivers are synchronized individually by the transmitter and receiver synchronizing modules. In order to calculate the bias between the transmitter and receiver synchronizing modules, new positioning algorithm similar to GPS was proposed. The positioning performance of the improved USAT without synchronizing RF and the validity of the proposed positioning algorithm are verified and evaluated by experiments.

  • In cognitive radio (CR), secondary users (SUs) are able to sense the absence of primary users (PUs) in the spectrum. Then, SUs use this information to opportunistically access the licensed spectrum in the PUs' absence. In this paper, we present an implementation of real-time video transmission with spectrum-sensing between two points using GNU Radio and a National Instruments 2900 Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). In our project, spectrum-sensing is implemented at both transmitter and receiver. The transmitter senses the channel, and if the channel is free, a video signal (which could be a real-time signal from a video file) will be modulated and processed by GNU Radio and transmitted using a USRP. A USRP receiver also senses the channel, but in contrast, if the channel is busy, the signal is demodulated to reproduce the transmitted video signal. This project brings in several challenges, like spectrum-sensing in the devices' environment, and packets getting lost or corrupted over the air.

  • This paper introduces an active sensing node using radio-frequency (RF) telemetry. This device has brought the traditional impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM) technique to a new paradigm. The RF active sensing node consists of a miniaturized impedance measuring device (AD5933), a microcontroller (ATmega128L), and a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (XBee). A macro-fiber composite (MFC) patch interrogates a host structure by using a self-sensing technique of the miniaturized impedance measuring device. All the process including structural interrogation, data acquisition, signal processing, and damage diagnostic is being performed at the sensor location by the microcontroller. The RF transmitter is used to communicate the current status of the host structure. The feasibility of the proposed SHM strategy is verified through an experimental study inspecting loose bolts in a bolt-jointed aluminum structure.

  • There is a possibility that electrical sparks may occur at discontinuities in metallic structures from distance of close to high power radio/radar transmitters. Voltage may be induced on these metallic structures by the radio-frequency transmitter. In this case, a person who comes into contact with these structure may be undergone a severe electrical shock. In this paper, assessment of the electrical shock and ignition hazards was investigated through experimental which are consisted radio transmitter and metallic loop-type structure in shield room. We measured that the induced voltage was highest at 61 MHz of transmission frequency, and confirmed the possibility of electric shock and explosion induced by a voltage or spark. But it is needed additional research where is opened site.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the radio interference between Bluetooth and Wireless LAN/video transmitter in the 2.4GHz band with Monte-Carlo Method. The simulation results show that it is necessary to limit under 10mW of the Bluetooth power to avoid the harmful interference between Bluetooth and Wireless LAN/video transmitter.

  • Chaotic OOK modulation method can be used in LDR(Low Data Rate) UWB systems. In this paper, UWB chaotic-OOK transmitter system is designed and verified using TSMC 0.18 um CMOS process. A transmitter system is composed of Quasi-chaotic signal generator, OOK Modulator, and driving amplifier. The traditional chaotic signal generators using analog feedback method is weak to process variation. In order to solve this problem, a quasi-chaotic signal generator using digital feedback technique is get wide band signal and OOK Modulator using T-type switching structure is used to enhance the isolation characteristic. A driving amplifier has differential to single structure to avoid an external balun for low cost communication. The measured output power spectrum of the transmitter meet the FCC regulation and the result of the modulation test at data rate of 20 Kbps, 200 Kbps, 2 Mbps, and 10 Mbps is conformed to LDR UWB system. It is shown that the transmitter in this paper can be used for the UWB chaotic-OOK system.

  • A novel power amplifier for a polar transmitter is proposed to achieve better spectral performance for a wideband envelope signal. In the proposed scheme, 2-bit sigma-delta (${\Sigma}{\Delta}$) modulation of the envelope signal is introduced, and the power amplifier configuration is modified in a binary form to accommodate the 2-bit digitized envelope signals. The 2-bit ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator lowers the noise of the envelope signal by fine quantization and thus enhances the spectral property of the RF signal. The Ptolemy simulation results of the proposed structure show that the spectral noise is reduced by 10 dB in a full transmit band of the EDGE system. The dynamic range is also enhanced. Since the performance is improved without increasing the over-sampling ratio, this technique is best suited for wireless communication with high data rates.

  • In this study, we investigate on location optimization algorithm of radio-navigation transmitter. The DOP for an each receiver is decided by the location of a transmitter. We provide various results that give an optimum DOP according to propagation characteristics. We use the DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data) to improve the accuracy.

  • In this paper, the optimal power allocation algorithm that minimizes the aggregate bit error rate (BER) of the secondary user (SU) in a downlink orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based cognitive radio (CR) system, while subjecting to the interference power constraint and the transmit power constraint, is investigated under the assumption that the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the interference links between the secondary transmitter and the primary receiver, and between the primary transmitter and the secondary receiver is perfectly known. Besides, a suboptimal algorithm with less complexity is also proposed. In order to deal with more practical situations, we further assume that only the channel distribution information (CDI) of the interference links is available and propose heuristic power allocation algorithms based on bisection search method to minimize the aggregate BER under the interference outage constraint and the transmit power constraint. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
