This research is designed to systemize the protection theory as well as to supplement the missing theory by organizing various studies on the protective functions of celothes by domestic and foreign scholers of clothing. Human environments is classified two standpoints : (1) Physical environments, and (2) man built psychological environments including socio-physical environments, socio-biological environments, behavioral environments, socio-psychological environments and institution environments. Clothes acting as a physical protection might be of (1) extreme air temperature: Parka; (2) high relative humidity: raincoat; (3) air movement: windbreaker; (4) radiation: space suit; (5) atmospheric pressure: deep sea diver suit; (6) mechanical agent: bullet proof vest; (7) physical agent: (8) chemical agent: (9) biological agent: surgeon's gown, cap, and mask. Also dresses act to support the body comfort, health and the well-being; corset for bad back patient, wrist band for people with weak wrist, bottom half of pressure suit for people with low blood pressure. Clothes acting as a psychological protection might be of (1) influence of magic and of spirits: (2) moral danger; (3) the general unfriendliness of the world as a whole; a reassurance against the lack of love. Clothes should provide the maximum of satisfaction in accordance with the full recognition of reality. The reality should aim at the formulation of general laws concerning the most pleasing forms, colors, and styles to suit. The complex physiological anatomical and psychological aspects of individual personalities.
Background: The exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation is a significant risk factor generally underestimated by outdoor workers and employers. Several studies have pointed out that occupational solar exposure increased eye and skin diseases with a considerable impact on the lives and productivity of affected workers. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness against ultraviolet radiation of some measures recently undertaken for the protection of lifeguards in a coastal area of Tuscany. Methods: Different shading structures (gazebos and beach umbrella) were tested during a sunny summer's day on a sandy beach by means of two radiometers; the UV protection offered by some T-shirts used by lifeguards was also tested in the laboratory with a spectrophotometer. Results: The analysed shading structures strongly reduced the ultraviolet radiation by up to 90%, however a not always negligible diffuse radiation is also present in the shade, requiring further protective measures (T-shirt, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.); the tested T-shirts showed a very good-excellent protection according to the Australian/New Zealand standard. Conclusion: Results obtained in this study suggest how the adoption and dissemination of good practices, including those tested, could be particularly effective as a primary prevention for lifeguards who are subjected to very high levels of radiation for long periods.
Lead(Pb), which is currently mainly used for shielding purposes in the medical radiation, has excellent radiation shielding functions, but is continuously exposed to radiation directly or indirectly due to the harmfulness of lead itself to the human body and the inconvenience caused by its heavy weight. Research on shielding materials that are human-friendly, lightweight, and convenient to use that can block risks and replace lead is continuously being conducted. In this study, based on the commonly used polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film and the fabric material used in actual radiation protective clothing, a multi-layer thin film was realized through sputtering and vacuum deposition of bismuth, tungsten, and tin, which are metal materials that can shield radiation. Thus, a shielding film was produced and its applicability as a radiation shielding material was evaluated. The radiation shielding film was manufactured by establishing the optimized conditions for each shielding material while controlling the applied voltage, roll driving speed, and gas supply amount to manufacture the shielding film. The adhesion between the parent material and the shielding metal thin film was confirmed by Cross-cut 100/100, and the stability of the thin film was confirmed through a hot water test for 1 hour to measure the change of the thin film over time. The shielding performance of the finally realized shielding film was measured by the Korea association for radiation application (KARA), and the test conditions (inverse wide beam, tube voltage 50 kV, half layer 1.828 mmAl) were set to obtain an attenuation ratio of 16.4 (initial value 0.300 mGy/s, measured value 0.018 mGy/s) and damping ratio 4.31 (initial value 0.300 mGy/s, measured value 0.069 mGy/s) were obtained. by securing process efficiency for future commercialization, light and shielding films and fabrics were used to lay the foundation for the application of films to radiation protective clothing or construction materials with shielding functions.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the knowledge and attitude toward radiation safety management in dental clinic worker. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 294 dental clinic workers in dental hospitals and clinics in Gwangju and Jeonnam from February 17 to March 30, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of radiation safety(8 questions), knowledge of radiation safety(15 questions), and attitudes of radiation safety(16 questions). The survey was done by Likert 5 scale method. Results: In completion of the radiodontia courses, 84.0% of the learners were female workers. 88.0% of the learners took the theoretical and practical courses. Those who work in the university dental hospital accounted for 87.1% and those in dental clinics accounted for 83.2%. Majority of the workers took on Leaden protective clothing in order to protect the thyroid gland. Male workers had more knowledge toward the radiation safety management than the female workers. The attitude toward the radiation safety management revealed the significant differences between age, gender, academic careers, license, clinical careers and the mean number of patients per day(p<0.05). Conclusions: The radiation safety management is very important in dental clinical workers and it is necessary to enhance the attitude toward the radiation safety through continuous education.

This study measured and compared the protective clothing using Pb used for shielding in a diagnostic X-ray energy range, and the shielding rates of X-ray fusion shielding materials using Si and $TiO_2$. For the experiment, a pad type shielding with a thickness of 1 mm was prepared by mixing $Si-TiO_2$, and the X-ray shielding rate was compared with 0.5 mmPb plate of The shielding rate of shielding of 0.5 mmPb plate 95.92%, 85.26 % based on the case of no shielding under each 60 kVp, 100 kVp tube voltage condition. When the shielding of $Si-TiO_2$ pad was applied, the shielding rate equal to or greater than 0.5 mmPb plate was obtained at a thickness of 11 mm or more, and the shielding rate of 100% or more was confirmed at a thickness of 13 mm in 60 kVp condition. When the shielding of $Si-TiO_2$ pad was applied, the shielding rate equal to or greater than 0.5 mmPb plate was obtained at a thickness of 17 mm or more, and a shielding rate of 0.5 mmPb plate was observed at a thickness of 23 mm in 100 kVp condition. Through the results of this study, We could confirm the possibility of manufacturing radiation protective materials that does not contain lead hazard using various metalic compound and liquid Si. This study shows that possibility of liquid Si and other metalic compound can harmonize easily. Beside, It is flexible and strong to physical stress than Pb obtained radiation protective closthes. But additional studies are needed to increase the shielding rate and reduce the weight.
Nowadays, interests of ultraviolet(UV) protection increased, since the UV dosage on the earth surface has increased over years. Overdose of UV can cause various skin, eye, and even DNA damages. Therefore, it is need to develop a proper mean to protect human skin and eye from UV radiation. In this study, the UV protective effect of green tea extract dyed fabrics with various fiber types were examined. Green tea has an active moiety called 'catechin' having benzene rings in its structure, which would exert a proper UV protective property. Green tea dyed fabrics showed the increase in UV protection, and silk showed the highest increase in UV protection (from 52.2% to 84.5% in UV-A, from 66.1% to 90% in UV-B). The order of UV-A protection increase is silk, wool, nylon and acrylic, PET, and cotton. The order of UV-B protection increase is silk nylon, wool, acrylic, cotton, and PET. In case of silk and nylon, the UV protection property gradually increased as the concentration of green tea extract increased. As a result, it was proven that green tea extract dyeing can improve UV protection property of dyed fabrics in environment-friendly and biocompatible manners.
Fluorine-18 used in PET/CT scans is a radioactive isotope that emits positrons, and high energy annihilation gamma rays and beta rays cause exposure to radiation workers. In this study, as part of a plan to reduce the exposure dose of radiation workers working in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, the cause of the low shielding efficiency of Apron for F-18 was identified, and the effectiveness of the Apron double-shielded with acrylic was evaluated. L-Block, Apron+acrylic, Apron, Acrylic+Apron, and Acrylic five shields are used to measure the dose, and the tendencies were compared by performing a Monte Carlo simulation. As a result, it was found that the shielding rate of Apron double shielded with acrylic was about 4 to 8% higher than that of Apron single shielded. To the extent that it does not significantly affect the user's activity, double-shielded personal protective clothing with an appropriate acrylic thickness could help reduce radiation workers' exposure.
To increase the ultraviolet radiation (UVR) protection of cotton fabric, ultraviolet protection (UVP) materials were treated onto cotton fabric using a new technique, UV-curing. A photocrosslinkablepolymer, poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate was used as a UV-curable resin in the presence of a small amount of photoinitiator. Two kinds of UVP materials were used, UV-absorber, 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone, and UV-scatterer, $TiO_2/ZnO$ Pad-dry-cure method in employing these materials onto cotton was also conducted to compare the effectiveness and the washfastness of UVP treatment between curing methods. UVP treated cotton fabric showed a moderate increase in UVP in case of 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone treatment and a high increase in case of $TiO_2/ZnO$. UV-curing method increased the washfastness of UVP property of $TiO_2/ZnO$ treated cotton fabrics. However, in case of 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone, similar wash fastnesses of UV-cured and pad-dry-cured cotton were observed. It can be presumed that 2,2'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy benzophenone was not significantly affected by water since its hydrophobicity. In short, UV-curing of UVP materials onto cotton was successfully done, and treated cotton fabrics showed the increased UVP properties and an increased washfastness in some extent.

In the current medical field, lead is widely used as a radiation shield. However, the lead weight is very heavy, so wearing protective clothing such as apron is difficult to wear for long periods of time and there is a problem with the danger of lethal toxicity in humans. Recently, many studies have been conducted to develop substitute materials of lead to resolve these problems. As a substitute materials for lead, barium(Ba) and iodine(I) have excellent shielding ability. But, It has characteristics emitting characteristic X-rays from the energy area near 30 keV. For patients or radiation workers, shielding materials is often made into contact with the human body. Therefore, the characteristic X-rays generated by the shielding material are directly exposured in the human body, which increases the risk of increasing radiation absorbed dose. In this study, we have developed the FLUKA transport code, one of the most suitable elements of radiation transport codes, to remove the characteristic X-rays generated by barium or iodine. We have verified the reliability of the shielding fraction of the structure of the structure shielding by comparing with the MCPDX simulations conducted as a prior study. Using the MCNPX and FLUKA, the double layer shielding structures with the various thickness combination consisting of barium sulphate ($BaSO_4$) and bismuth oxide($Bi_2O_3$) are designed. The accuracy of the type shown in IEC 61331-1 was geometrically identical to the simulation. In addition, the transmission spectrum and absorbed dose of the shielding material for the successive x-rays of 120 kVp spectra were compared with lead. In results, $0.3mm-BaSO_4/0.3mm-Bi_2O_3$ and $0.1mm-BaSO_4/0.5mm-Bi_2O_3$ structures have been absorbed in both 33 keV and 37 keV characteristic X-rays. In addition, for high-energy X-rays greater than 90 keV, the shielding efficiency was shown close to lead. Also, the transport code of the FLUKA's photon transport code was showed cut-off on low-energy X-rays(below 33keV) and is limited to computerized X-rays of the low-energy X-rays. But, In high-energy areas above 40 keV, the relative error with MCNPX was found to be highly reliable within 6 %.
The purpose of this study is surveyed diagnostic radiography (DR) examination in veterinary hospital (VC) including non-ionization radiation such as ultra-sonography and magnetic resonance imaging. From June 1 to June 20. 2021, we surveyed the VC in 00 metropolitan city by using a structural questionnaire which are location of VC and X-ray unit et al.. Data are expressed as a mean with standard deviation for continuous variable or percent for categorical variable using SPSS ver. 26.0. As the first animal to be visited, dogs were the highest with 61.9%, followed by cats with 12.9%. In 87.1% fo cases, DR units were used, and 4 VCs did not. In 27 VCs using DR units, 48.1% separated examination room and control room, 19.8% examined in animal visited, protective clothing was in all VCs, 55.6% were measured radiation exposure dose, 92.6% was responded a necessary for examination education. From the above results, it will help to revise the guidelines for DR units and examination in korea VCs.
