  • Electromagnetically coupled coaxial dipole (ECCD) array antenna with and without short-ended termination is investigated theoretically. The integral equations are derived for the structure by use of the Fourier transform and mode expansion of radial waveguide. The integrals appearing in the integral equations are evaluated along the branch cut instead of real axis for a faster convergent integral. The effects of slots and dipoles, short-ended termination length, and dielectric coating on the radiation characteristics are presented. Radiation pattern of the structure is also investigated. The results of the present method are compared with those of the commercial EM simulator and good agreement is found.

  • Titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) has excellent mechanical properties and high specific strength; therefore, it is widely used in aerospace, automobile, defense, engine parts, and bio fields. Particularly in the aerospace field, as it has a low specific gravity and rigidity, it is used for the purpose of increasing energy efficiency through weight reduction of parts, and most have a thin-walled structure. However, it is extremely difficult to machine thin-walled shapes owing to vibration and deformation. In the case of thin-walled structures, the cutting forces and vibrations rapidly increase depending on the cutting conditions, significantly affecting the surface integrity and tool life. In this study, machining experiments on thin-wall milling of a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) were conducted for each experimental condition with different axial depths of cut, radial depth of cut, and machining sequence. The machining characteristics were analyzed, and an effective machining method was derived by a comprehensive analysis of the machined surface conditions and cutting signals.

  • The fabric composite rings for nozzle parts of solid rocket motors should be thick to endure high temperature and pressure of combustion gas. Since the thermal residual stresses developed during manufacturing of the axi-symmetric composite structures increase as the thickness increases and eventually induce failures during storage and operation, the estimation of the residual stresses is indispensable for design and manufacture of the thick composite nozzle parts. In this paper, thick fabric rings made of carbon fabric phenolic composites were fabricated in a hydroclave and in an autoclave using a multi-step pre-compaction process to minimize draping. The residual stresses distributed in the rings were measured by the radial-cut method and it was found that the compaction reduces the residual stresses in the composite ring.

  • This paper deals with the prediction of cutting force and tool deflection and it's application in the flexible ball end milling process. Machining accuracy is determined by the static stiffness of tool system and the instantaneous cutting force. The static stiffness of tool system consists of the stiffness of holer and the stiffness of ball end mill. The stiffness of holder was obtained from the experimental result, and the stiffness of ball end mill with two flutes was theoretically analyzed by the finite elements method. In cutting process, the instantaneous cutting force is dependent upon the instantaneous feed and pick feed(radial depth of cut) which are varied by tool deflection. For the calculation of cutting force and deflection of ball end mill, iteration method is used with the linear interpolation to the data of cutting force obtained from rigid ball end mill and the data of tool deflection. In this paper, a for enhancing accuracy is discussed. And the selection of helix angle for minimizing machining error is also discussed.

  • In case of small motors, coil bundle occupies a large portion of stator in view of mass and volume as well as dynamics. It is observed through modal test on the stator of an IPM BLDC (interior permanent magnet brushless direct current) motor that coil bundle wound on the stator core causes the first and second natural frequencies to decrease by about 20-30% compared with those of bare stator. Especially the third natural frequency is newly observed below 3 KHz, which is not observed on the bare stator. It is found that at the third mode the end-coil and the core vibrate out of phase in radial direction. In this paper, the stator is dynamically modeled in terms of the core and the coil bundle consisting of the end-coil and the slot coil based on the above observations for the prediction of dynamic properties. The core can easily be modeled using finite element method with its actual material properties and geometric shape. The concept of equivalent bending stiffness is used for modeling of the end-coil so that predictions may match with the measured natural frequencies for the end-coil cut out of the stator. Although the same concept can be applied to the slot coil, separation of the slot coil from the stator is impractical. Therefore, equivalent bending stiffness of the slot coil is determined through iterative comparisons with the measurements of natural frequencies of the stator with the slot coil in it.

  • It is very difficult to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain accurate cutting profiles because machining errors caused by tool deflection depend upon cutting conditions. In this study the relationship between real cutting profiles (inclined shapes and machining errors) and cutting conditions was modeled in order to fabricate draft angle on micro molds. CCD (Central Composite Design) of DOE (Design Of Experiment) and RSM (Response Surface Method) were applied in order to model the relationship between cutting conditions and machining errors. In order to use CCD the range of radial depth of cut was chosen by $10-90{\mu}m$ and the range of feedrate was chosen by 200-300mm/min, and 9 points of cutting conditions were chosen inside determined ranges. Then, actual cutting processes were carried out as respect to 9 points of cutting conditions, draft angles and real cutting profiles were measured on cutting profiles, each response surface function was determined by conducting response surface analysis and the functions were represented by 3-dimensional graphs, contour lines and $101{\times}101$ matrices. Consequently it is possible to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angles and cutting profiles by using modeling. To validate proposed approach in this study suitable cutting conditions were determined by modeling in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angle and cutting profile, and actual cutting processes were carried out. About 95% of good agreement between predicted and measured values was obtained.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the effects od Sahyangsohapwon on learning and memory of rats.Method: In the experiment, rats were divided two groups. One was control group which was adminstered Sahyangsohapwon and the other was sample group administered placebo. Numbers of each group were 13 rats. 8-arm radial maze task was used in it, and working memory test and retention(reference memory) test were done. Before the beginning of the test, the rats were deprived of water for 24hrs.In the frist test, each of eight arm was baited with water and a rat was permitted to remain on the maze until all eight arms were entered. A working memory error was defined as revisit of any previously entered arm. When a rat made an error not exceeding one time in consecutive 3 days-performance, it was regarded as learning criteria and the test was ended. The reference memory was evaluated with total days which it took rats to pass the learning crtirtia. The second test was performed after 24 hours when the first test was over. When a rat entered 4 arms, the entrance of arm was cut off during 30 seconds. Here the number if errors which was produced during a rat find remaining 4 tracks was regarded as the index of memory. This experiment compared the number of error at the control group with that of the sample group.Result: 1. In the first test, it was shown that the sample group took 7.69${\pm}$1.11 days and the control group 9.31${\pm}$1.97 days to pass the learning criteria. There was statistically significant reference mernory development at the sample group.2. In the second test, the frequency of errors made by the two groups were 0.92${\pm}$1.32 times for the control group and 1.23${\pm}$1.59 times for the Sahyangsohapwon group. There was no difference between the groups in frequency of errors. Conclusion: It is suggested that Sahyangsohapwon has effects on the improvement of learning and memory.
