In this paper, two types of porous burners with radial and axial flow have been modeled numerically and compared. For this purpose, governing equations were solved one-dimensionally for methane-air premix gas. The mechanism used in simulating combustion phenomenon was 15 stage reduced mechanism based on GRI3.0. In order to compare the two burners, the inlet flow rate and fuel-air ratio have been assumed equal for the two burners. The results of the study indicated that reduction in speed and increase in cross-section area in the direction of flow have a considerable influence on the behavior of radial burner in comparison to axial burner. Regarding temperature distribution inside the burner, it was observed that the two above mentioned factors can be influential in temperature of flame propagation region. Also, regarding distribution of CO and NO emission, the results indicate that the porous radial burner has lower emissions in comparison to the axial once. The output radiative heat transfer efficiency of the two burners was also compared and in this case also even the radial porous burner was found to be preferable.
Axial and radial distributions of bubble holdup were investigated in a slurry bubble column with pilot plant scale(D=1.0 m). Effects of gas velocity, surface tension of continuous liquid medium and solid fraction in the slurry phase on the axial and radial distributions of bubble holdup were examined. The bubble holdup decreased with increasing radial dimensionless distance from the center of the column, while it increased with increasing dimensionless distance in the axial direction from the distributor, in all the cases studied. The radial non-uniformity of bubble holdup increased with increasing gas velocity but decreasing surface tension of liquid medium, while it was not dependent upon the solid fraction in the slurry phase. The axial non-uniformity of bubble holdup increased with increasing gas velocity, but it does not change considerably with variations of liquid surface tension or solid fraction in the slurry phase . The axial and radial distributions of bubble holdup were well correlated in terms of operating variables within this experimental conditions.
Radial distribution of internal density has been determined for thirteen subclouds in the three giant molecular cloud complexes accompanying Mon OB1, Mon OB2 and CMa OB1 associations, We modeled their radial density structures with the density distribution of isothermal gas spheres. Most of the subclouds, nine out of the thirteen, are well described by isothermal spheres of single component; while the rest four require an additional component. Total mass and potential energy of each subcloud are also derived from the radial density structure; thermal energy and internal velocity dispersion required for sustaining the density structure are deduced from the isothermal gas model. Our derived masses of the clouds are comparable to the values determined by Blitz (1978) under LTE assumption. This agreement suggests that the correction factor for non-LTE effect on mass-estimate is not far from unity. The ratio of the gravitational potential energy to the kinetic energy of thermal motion is as large as 250; hence the thermal motion alone cannot support these clouds against the gravity. Being supported by turbulence motion with velocities of six to seven times the thermal velocity, the clouds of one-component type seem to be in equilibrium with the gravity; while the clouds of two-component type are likely to be in the stage of gravitational collapse.
Arc pressure is one of important factors in understanding physical arc phenomena. Especially it affects on the penetration, size and shape of TIG welding. Some researches were reported on the effect of arc pressure in low and middle current region. But there are not any research in high current region. The purpose of this study is to investigate the arc pressure distribution with mixing ratio of shield gas such as Ar and He gases. A Cu block with water cooling was specifically designed and used as an anode electrode in order to measure the arc pressure in high current region. Then, the arc pressure distribution was measured with change in welding current and mixing ratio of shield gases. The arc force was obtained by numerically integrating the measured results. As the results, it was shown that the arc pressure was concentrated at the central part of the arc in middle and high current regions when a pure Ar gas was used. In case of Ar + He mixing gas, the arc pressure was much lower than that of pure Ar gas. In addition, it was widely distributed to radial direction.
This paper investigates temperature distribution of plasma jets which used argon gas, and nitrogen gas mixed with argon as working fluids in spectroscopic method, and studies correlations between them main results are as follows; 1) The temperature at the center of plasma jet increases with are current and gas flow, and decreases with magnetic flux density along the axial direction. 2) The changing rate of temperature of plasma jet in the radial direction decreases rapidly beyond 2mm from central axis. 3) Temperature drop rate of plasma jet in the central axis direction appears most apparant beyond 13mm above the nozzle exit. 4) When argon gas mixed with a small amount of nitrogen, plasma temperature increases at same are current compared with the case of argon gas only.

Spray characteristics of external mixing sonic twin-fluid atomization nozzles are investigated experimentally. Particle sizes are measured by the Fraunhofer diffraction method using the Malvern particle analyzer, and their radial distributions are obtained using the tomographical transformation technique. The spatial distribution of SMD shows that the drop size increases in the radial direction at a fixed liquid flow rate, and the distribution is getting uniform rapidly as the atomizing gas pressure increases. The SMD decreases as the liquid flow rate increases at a fixed GLR. It is found that the atomization efficiency of the flush type sonic nozzle is superior to that of protrusion type. The effect of laser beam diameter of the particle analyzer on the spatial SMD distribution is minor at present experimental conditions.

A functionally graded material (FGM) spacer, which the distribution of dielectric permittivity inside an insulator changes spatially, can considerably reduce the electric field concentration around a high-voltage electrode and along the gas-insulator interface when compared to a conventional spacer with a uniform permittivity distribution. In this research, we propose the FGM spacer with an elliptical permittivity distribution instead of that with a distribution of dielectric permittivity varying along a radial direction only in order to improve efficiently the insulation capability. The optimal design of the elliptical FGM spacer configuration is performed by using the response surface methodology (RSM) combined with the steepest descent method (SDM).

Ferromagnetic tunnel junctions were fabricated by dc magnetron sputtering and plasma oxidation process. The local transport properties of the ferromagnetic tunnel junctions were studied using contact-mode Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and the local current-voltage analysis. Tunnel junctions with the structure of sub./Ta/Cu/Ta/NiFe/Cu/Mn$\_$75/Ir$\_$25//Co$\_$70/Fe$\_$30//Al-oxide were prepared on thermally oxidized Si wafers. Al-oxide layers were formed with microwave excited plasma using radial line slot antenna (RLSA) for 5 and 7 sec. Kr gas was used as the inert gas mixed with $O_2$ gas for the plasma oxidization. No correlation between topography and current image was observed while they were measured simultaneously. The local current distribution was well identified with the distribution of local barrier height. Assuming the gaussian distribution of the local barrier height, the ferromagnetic tunnel junction with longer oxidation time was well fitted with the experimental results. As contrast, in the case of the shorter time oxidation junction, the current mainly flow through the low barrier height area for its insufficient oxygen. Such leakage current might result in the decrease of tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio.
The industrial power system has the radial plant distribution system and domestic generators to supply the essential loads. When the system is isolated from the utility tie line, the system frequency drops resulting in the trip of generators. The load shedding scheme shall be properly designed to secure the essential load. In this paper two kinds of load shedding schemes, those are, the Fast Act Load Shedding(FALS) and Under Frequency Load Shedding(UFLS) are simulated and compared taking an example of petrochemical gas separation plant.
A reduced condition for liquid-gas phase transition from the singularity of compressibility is derived using diagrammatic approach and is examined in the hard sphere system. The condition turns out that the Percus-Yevick and the Hyper-Netted-Chain approximation never conceive the idea of phase transition, and explains that the liquid-gas transition does not exist in hard sphere system. The solid-fluid transition is considered on the viewpoint of correlation function and diagrammatic analysis.
