Rapid cost-effective methods of measuring wood quality are extremely important to tree improvement programs where it is necessary to test large numbers of trees. Non-destructive sampling of a forest can be achieved by using increment cores generally removed at breast height. At CSIRO Forestry and Forest Products methods for the rapid, non-destructive measurement of wood properties and wood chemistry based on increment core samples have been developed. In this paper the application of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to the prediction of a range solid wood properties, including density, longitudinal modulus of elasticity (E
We use BV CCD images to study the dynamical substructure of the globular cluster M5. We investigate the radial variation of ellipticities and position angles using the stellar photometry and the IRAF ellipse task. We find that out to three times the half light radius
A key component of an autonomous mobile robot is to localize itself and build a map of the environment simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a vision-based localization and mapping algorithm of mobile robot using fisheye lens. To acquire high-level features with scale invariance, a camera with fisheye lens facing toward to ceiling is attached to the robot. These features are used in mP building and localization. As a preprocessing, input image from fisheye lens is calibrated to remove radial distortion and then labeling and convex hull techniques are used to segment ceiling and wall region for the calibrated image. At the initial map building process, features we calculated for each segmented region and stored in map database. Features are continuously calculated for sequential input images and matched to the map. n some features are not matched, those features are added to the map. This map matching and updating process is continued until map building process is finished, Localization is used in map building process and searching the location of the robot on the map. The calculated features at the position of the robot are matched to the existing map to estimate the real position of the robot, and map building database is updated at the same time. By the proposed method, the elapsed time for map building is within 2 minutes for 50㎡ region, the positioning accuracy is ±13cm and the error about the positioning angle of the robot is ±3 degree for localization.

In this paper, the results gained by applying many impingement models to the cylinder and flat plate were analyzed in comparison with the experimental data to study a spray/wall interaction phenomena. To begin with, the behavior of spray injected normal to the wall was analysed using three different impingement models ; Naber and Reitz model(NR model), Watkins and Wang model(WW model) and Park and Watkins model(PW model) in the present calculation. The results obtained from these models were compared with experimental data of Katsura et. al. The results indicated that PW model was in better agreement with experimental data than the NR and WW model. Also f3r spray injected at 30DEG , the result of three models were compared with experimental data of Fujimoto et. al. The results showed that m model overpredicted the penetration in the radial direction because this model was based on the inviscid jet analogy. WW model did not predicted the radius and height of the wall spray effectively. It might be thought that this discrepancy was due to the lack of consideration of spray film velocity occurred at impingement site. The result of PW model agrees with the experimental data as time goes on. In particular, a height of the spray droplets was predicted more closely to the experimental data than the other two models. The results of PW model in which the spray droplets were distributed densely around the edge of droplet distribution shaped in a circle had an agreement with the experimental data of Fujimoto et. al. Therefore, it was concluded that PW model performed better than M and WW model for prediction of spray behavior. The numerical calculation using PW model performed to the cylinder similar to the real shape of DI engine. The results showed that vortex strength near the wall in the cylinder was stronger than that in the case of flat plate. Contrary to the flat plat, an existence of the side wall in the cylinder caused the tangential velocity component to be reduced and the normal velocity component to be increased. The flow tends to rotate to the inside of cylinder going upward to the right side wall of cylinder gradually as time passes. Also, the results showed that as the spray angle increases, the gas velocity distribution and the tumble flow seemed to be formed widely.
Propellant grains with embedded metal wires have been used for enhancement of burning rate while maintaining high loading density. For the performance design of a solid rocket motor using propellant grain with embedded metal wires, burn-back analysis is required according to number, location, arrangement angle of metal wires, and augmentation ratio of the propellant burning rate near a wire region. In this study, a numerical method to quickly calculate a burning surface area was developed in response to the design change of the propellant grain with embedded metal wires. The burning surface area derived from the developed method was compared with the results of a CAD program. Error rate decreased as the radial size of the grid decreased. Analysis for characteristics of burning surface area was performed according to the number and location of metal wires, the initial and final phases were shortened and the steady-state phase was increased when the number of metal wires increased. When arranging the metal wires at different radii, the burning surface area rapidly increased in the initial phase and sharply decreased in the final phase compared to the case where the metal wires were disposed in the same radius.
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70

A new propeller series is developed using the newly developed blade section(KH18 section) which behaves better cavitation characteristics and higher lift-drag ratio at wide range of angle-of-attack. The pitch and camber distributions are disigned in order to have the same radial and chordwise loading distribution with the selected circumferentially averaged wake input. Since the geometries of the series propeller, such as chord length, thickness, skew and rate distribations, are selected by regression of the recent full scale propeller geometric data, the performance prediction of a propeller at preliminary design stage can be mure realistic. Number of blades of the series propellers is 4 and the expanded blade area ratios are 0.3, 0.45, 0.6 and 0.75. Mean pitch ratios are selected as 0.5, 0.65, 0.8, 0.75 and 1.1 for each expanded area ratio. The new propeller series is composed of 20 propellers and is named as KD(KRISO-DAEWOO) propeller series. Propeller open water tests are performed at the experimental towing tank, and the cavitation observation tests and fluctuating pressure measurements are carried out at the cavitation tunnel of KRISO.
