  • Not much work has been carried out on the load flow analysis of distribution networks. This paper introduces Newton-Raphson method using Distflow equation and Forward Sweeping method in the distribution networks. And that efficient solution scheme in a radial distribution network is presented. Also, simulation results of both Newton-Raphson method and Forward Sweeping method applied to a 22.9kV distribution system model with 120 load buses are analized and evaluated.

  • In this paper, a new approach is proposed to select the optimal sitting and sizing of distributed solar photovoltaic generation (SPVG) in a radial electrical distribution systems (EDS) considering load/generation uncertainties. Here, distributed generations (DGs) allocation problem is modeled as optimization problem with network loss based objective function under various equality and inequality constrains in an uncertain environment. A boundary power flow is utilized to address the uncertainties in load/generation forecasts. This approach facilitates the consideration of random uncertainties in forecast having no statistical history. Uncertain solar irradiance is modeled by beta distribution function (BDF). The resulted optimization problem is solved by a new Dynamic Harmony Search Algorithm (DHSA). Dynamic band width (DBW) based DHSA is proposed to enhance the search space and dynamically adjust the exploitation near the optimal solution. Proposed approach is demonstrated for two standard IEEE radial distribution systems under different scenarios.

  • This paper presents an efficient algorithm for determining the location, size and number of capacitors in unbalanced radial distribution system. The objective function formulated consists of two terms: cost for energy loss and cost related to capacitor purchase and capacitor installation. The cost function associated with capacitor placement is considered as step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Genetic algorithms(GA) are used to obtain the population is derived. The strings in each population consist of the bus number index and size of capacitors to be installed. In order to determine the number of capacitor placement, the length mutation operator is used. Its efficiency is proved through the application in unbalanced radial distribution systems made of 10 buses with 9 distribution lines and 25 buses with 24 distribution lines.

  • The present study is concerned with a simple numerical method for estimating the hindered settling velocity of noncolloidal suspensions with bidisperse size distribution of particles. The method is based on an effective-medium theory which uses the conditional ensemble averages for describing the velocity fields or other physical quantities of interest in the suspension system with the particles randomly placed. The effective-medium theory originally developed by Acrivos and Chang[1] for monodisperse suspensions is modified for the bidisperse case. Using the radial distribution functions and stream functions the hindered settling velocity of the suspended particles is calculated numerically. The predictions by the present method are compared with the previous experimental results by Davis and Birdsell[2] and Cheung et al.[3]. It is shown that the estimations by the effective-medium model of the present study reasonably agree with the experimental results.

  • Electrical power distribution systems are critical links between the utility and customer. In general, power distribution systems have unbalanced feeders due to the unbalanced loading. The devices that dependent on balanced three phase supply are affected by the unbalanced feeders. This necessitates the balancing of feeders. The main objective of reconfiguration is to balance the loads among the phases subject to constraints such as load flow equations, capacity and voltage constraints and to reduce the real power loss, while subject to a radial network structure in which all loads must be energized. Therefore, the distribution system reconfiguration problem has been viewed as multi-objective problem. In this paper, the hybrid heuristic algorithm has been used for reconfiguration, which is the combination of fuzzy and greedy algorithms. The purpose of the introduction of greedy is to refrain the searching for the period of phase balancing. The incorporation of fuzzy helps to take up more objectives amid phase balancing in the searching. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through modified IEEE 33 bus and modified IEEE 125 bus radial distribution system.

  • The unsteady-state, incompressible and three-dimensional large-eddy simulation(LES) was carried out to evaluate the vorticity distribution of a small-size axial fan(SSAF). The X-component vorticity profiles developed around blade tips turn from axial to radial, and diminish the density of distribution according to the increase of static pressure. Otherwise, the Z-component vorticity profiles evenly develop at the region larger than the half radial distance of blade at the operating points of A and B, partly at the trailing-edge region of blade and radially over bellmouth according to the increase of static pressure.

  • Distribution systems is consist of network in physical aspect, and radial in electrical aspect. Therefore, radial operation is realized by changing the status of sectionalizing switches, and is usually done for loss reduction in the system. In this paper, we propose a optimal method for distribution systems reconfiguration. Specifically, we use K-optimal algorithm and tabu search method to solve distribution systems reconfiguration for loss minimization problem.

In this paper, we propose a optimal method for distribution systems reconfiguration. Specifically we use genetic algorithm method to solve distribution systems reconfiguration for loss minimization problem. • Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing distributed generation (DG). However, an insertion of DG to existing distribution system can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc,. The typical protection system of the existing distribution system is designed for radial network. But penetration of DG to distribution system changes existing unidirectional power flow to bidirectional power flow. Therefore, investigation to cover whole field of distribution system must be accomplished such as changing of protection devices rating by increasing fault current, reevaluation of protective coordination. This paper presents that PSCAD/EMTDC simulations was accomplished to analyze effect of DG on the distribution protective coordination. In addition, directional recloser-sectionalizer coordination are evaluates distribution system with DG by using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

  • Penetration of distributed generator(DG) to power distribution system can cause malfunction of existing protection schemes. Because grid interconnected DG can contribute fault currents and make bidirectional current flows on the system, fault contributions from DG can cause an interference of protection relay operation. Therefore, over current protection device of the distribution system with DGs need directional protection schemes. In this paper, improved directional protection algorithms are proposed for the distribution system with DG considering their fault characteristics. And than, these directional protection algorithms are tested and validated in various fault conditions. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the proposed directional protection algorithms are practically efficient for the radial distribution system with DG.
