In this paper, we propose an indoor RSSI (received signal strength indication)-based localization method that uses virtually overlapped visible light with an indoor LED lighting system. In our system, a photodiode (PD) measures the RSSI from LED lamps that blink in one row or column units. Subsequently, the RSSI is used to obtain the horizontal distances between the LED lamps and the receiver with the predetermined characteristics curve, R-D curve, that represents the relation between the RSSI and the horizontal distances. When the controlled LED lamps blink in one row or column units, the R-D curve at the border of the LED lamps is different because of the weak lighting, which results in the position sensing error of the receiver. The deviation of the optical power of each LED also causes the error. To solve these problems, we propose a method that overlaps the visible light through the numerical operation at the receiver side without any modification of the light source side. Our proposed method has been simulated in a room measuring $1.2{\times}1.2{\times}1.8m^3$ considering the effect of the error on the optical power of the LED. The simulation result shows that the proposed method eliminates the error condition with the R-D curve and achieves an average positioning error of 13.4 mm under the error rate 3% of the optical power.

Navigation system based on indoor location estimation is one of the core technologies in mobile robot systems. Wireless sensor network has great potential in the indoor location estimation due to its characteristics such as low power consumption, low cost, and simplicity. In this paper we present an algorithm to estimate the indoor location of mobile robot based on wireless sensor network and fuzzy modeling. ZigBee-based sensor network usually uses RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) values to measure the distance between two sensor nodes, which are affected by signal distortion, reflection, channel fading, and path loss. Therefore we need a proper correction method to obtain accurate distance information with RSSI. We develop the fuzzy distance models based on RSSI values and an efficient algorithm to estimate the robot location which applies to the navigation algorithm incorporating the time-varying data of environmental conditions which are received from the wireless sensor network.

Fingerprinting technique exists at the position assumption system for the service of indoor location-based. However, there is a problem it takes a long time to build fingerprinting map. We need to verify that received signal of WAP(wireless access point) is similar at all times in a similar space in order to solve these problems. This paper proposes a plan that is able to build fingerprinting map by using the received signal data of WAP. To do this, change the positon of WAP in the same space, It is confirmed the process of change of the RSSI corresponding to the distance. We also confirmed that the RSSI collected from elsewhere in the space a similar change in the same manner.

An indoor positioning system using Wi-Fi is essential to produce a radio map that combines the indoor space of two or more dimensions, the information of node positions, and etc. in processing for constructing the radio map, the measurement of the received signal strength indicator(RSSI) and the confirmation of node placement information counsume substantial time. Especially, when the installed wireless environment is changed or a new space is created, easy installation of the node and fast indoor radio mapping are needed to provide indoor location-based services. In this paper, to reduce the time consumption, we propose an algorithm to distinguish the straight and curve lines of a corridor section by RSSI visualization and Sobel filter-based edge detection that enable accurate node deployment and space analysis using cable-type Wi-Fi node installed at a 3 m interval. Because the cable type Wi-Fi is connected by a same power line, it has an advantage that the installation order of nodes at regular intervals could be confirmed accurately. To be able to analyze specific sections in space based on this advantage, the distribution of the signal was confirmed and analyzed by Sobel filter based edge detection and total RSSI distribution(TRD) computation through a visualization process based on the measured RSSI. As a result to compare the raw data with the performance of the proposed algorithm, the signal intensity of proposed algorithm is improved by 13.73 % in the curve section. Besides, the characteristics of the straight and the curve line were enhanced as the signal intensity of the straight line decreased by an average of 34.16 %.

In this paper, Indoor Positioning System based on Wi-Fi system which is one of the key technology in LBS(Location Based Service) is proposed. The proposed system estimates distance between MS(Mobile Station) and AP(Access Point) using RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator). RSSI is affected by outlier that originate from indoor environment complexity and obstacle. In this paper, we introduce a Robust outlier Extended Kalman Filter that can ignore, real-time outlier in the observations. To demonstrate performance of proposed indoor positioning system, we used a PDA as the MS.

Ubiquitous implementation of indoor location-based technology is recognized that one of the important elements of the technology. Specifically, the hospital management of patients, the silver-town management, the implementation of the smart home for the indoors rather than outdoors in a range of broadband users for location-aware technology is needed. This paper in wireless devices with an indoor location awareness shows about the system's technical design and implementation. Location-based technology for wireless LAN users aware of the strength of radio signals (Received Signal Strength Indication, RSSI) using trilateration. Topographic mapping system will be implemented wireless devices and servers, Access Point (AP), which is the system's development and testing throughout the physical environment to determine the potential for real-life applications.

In this paper, for the pratical building envoronments, the propagation properties of the electromagnetic waves of the sub-1GHz bands, including the 447MHz, 868MHz, and 715MHz, and the 2.4GHz band are experimentally observed in therms of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value. The compasion of the frequency bands can be utilized to efficiently construct the wireless sensor networks (WSN) for the building automation control. In order to measure the RSSI values in the building, an RSSI measurement system is first designed, in which the master part can transmit data packets and measure the corresponding RSSI values, and the slave part can respond the received data packets. Using the measurement system, the RSSI values are then experimentally measured at four types of building enviroments. From the experimental result analysis, we could notice that the sub-1GHz, especially the 447MHz band, showd a good communication performance for the building environment and could provide an efficient WSN construction when the data rate is relatively low.

In this paper, a PLL frequency synthesizer for RSSI applications is designed by phase noise analysis. Required synthesizer performance is achieved by optimizing the noise performance of PLL components and a loop transfer function, since its phase noise, lock time, and spur suppression capability are determined by the performance of loop components and loop filter characteristics. As an application example, a PLL frequency synthesizer for RSSI applications, which operates at the frequency of 2.288GHz, is designed using the phase noise analysis. The validity of the design technique is proved by experiments.

In this paper, we propose a radial reference map-based location fingerprinting technique with constant spacing from an access point (AP) to all reference points by considering the minimum dynamic range of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) obtained through an experiment conducted in an indoor environment. Because the minimum dynamic range, 12 dBm, of the RSSI appeared every 20 cm during the training stage, a cell spacing of 80 cm was applied. Furthermore, by considering the minimum dynamic range of an RSSI in the location estimation stage, when an RSSI exceeding the cumulative average by ${\pm}6dBm$ was received, a previously estimated location was provided. We also compared the location estimation accuracy of the proposed method with that of a conventional fingerprinting technique that uses a grid reference map, and found that the average location estimation accuracy of the conventional method was 21.8%, whereas that of the proposed technique was 90.9%.

This paper describes a system for location tracking wireless sensor nodes in an indoor environment. The sensor reading used for the location estimation is the received signal strength indication (RSSI) as given by an RF interface. By tagging users with a mobile node and deploying a number of reference nodes at fixed position in the room, the received signal strength indicator can be used to determine the position of tagged users. The system combines Euclidean distance technique with signal strength obtained by measurement driven log-normal path loss model of 2.4 GHz wireless channel. The experimental results demonstrated the ability of this system to estimate the location with a error less than 1.3m.
