Radio Frequency Circuit Module BGA(Ball Grid Array) (Radio Frequency 회로 모듈 BGA(Ball Grid Array) 패키지)

  • We presented a BGA(Ball Grid Array) package for RF circuit modules and extracted its electrical parameters. As the frequency of RF system devices increases, the effect of its electrical parasitics in the wireless communication system requires new structure of RF circuit modules because of its needs to be considered of electrical performance for minimization and module mobility. RF circuit modules with BGA packages can provide some advantages such as minimization, shorter circuit routing, and noise improvement by reducing electrical noise affected to analog and digital mixed circuits, etc. We constructed a BGA package of ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) RF module and measured electrical parameters with a TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry) equipment and compared its electrical parasitic parameters with PCB RF circuits. With a BGA substrate of 3${\times}$3 input and output terminals, we have found that self capacitance of BGA solder ball is 68.6fF, and self inductance 146pH, whose values were reduced to 34% and 47% of the value of QFP package structure. S11 parameter measurement with a HP4396B Network Analyzer showed the resonance frequency of 1.55GHz and the loss of 0.26dB. Routing length of the substrate was reduced to 39.8mm. Thus, we may improve electrical performance when we use BGA package structures in the design of RF circuit modules.

Implementation of Filter Bank-Based RF Transceiver for TV White Space

  • This paper presents a general-purpose design scheme of a filter bank (FB)-based radio frequency (RF) transceiver that operates across the entire ultra-high frequency (UHF) TV band from 470 MHz to 698 MHz and complies with the TV white space (TVWS) regulatory requirements. To this end, an intermediate frequency (IF) band-pass filter (BPF) with a sharp skirt characteristic is considered as a solution for handling the incoming signals from a baseband modem. Specifically, an FB-based BPF structure with four ceramic resonator filters that effectively rejects unwanted signals is proposed to extract a desired signal in the TV band. Achievable data rates of a cognitive radio system (CRS) employing the proposed FB-based RF transceiver at the application layer are investigated in both wired and wireless environments. The service coverage of the CRS network is measured according to several modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) of the CRS. The results show that the coverage of a wireless network in a nearly open area can be extended by more than 9.3 km in the TVWS. Experimental results also confirm that the proposed FB-based RF transceiver is adequate for utilization in TVWS applications.

  • Wireless sensor network plays a prominent role in tracking the location of the target outdoor and indoor. This paper describes the implementation of the passive indoor location tracking system using ultrasonic and RF technologies that provides accurate location in the form of user space and position in three dimensions. Our system used a combination of RF and ultrasonic technologies to provide a location-support service to users and applicants. Ceiling-mounted beacons were spread through the building, publishing location information on an RF signal. The person carried a listener and the listener determined the location by calculating the distance from three beacons using triangulation algorithm.

  • The performance of large-scale cognitive radio (CR) networks with secondary users sustained by opportunistically harvesting radio-frequency (RF) energy from nearby primary transmissions is investigated. Using an advanced RF energy harvester, a secondary user is assumed to be able to collect ambient primary RF energy as long as it lies inside the harvesting zone of an active primary transmitter (PT). A variable power (VP) transmission mode is proposed, and an energy-based opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) strategy is considered, under which a secondary transmitter (ST) is allowed to transmit only if its harvested energy is larger than a predefined transmission threshold and it is outside the guard zones of all active PTs. The transmission probability of the STs is derived. The outage probabilities and the throughputs of the primary and the secondary networks, respectively, are characterized. Compared with prior work, the throughput can be increased by as much as 29%. The energy-based OSA strategy can be generally applied to a non-CR setup, where distributed power beacons (PBs) are deployed to power coexisting wireless signal transmitters (WSTs) in a wireless powered sensor network.

  • RF MEMS is a miniature device or an array of integration devices and mechanical components and fabricated with If batch-processing techniques. RF MEMS application area are in phased arrays and reconfigurable apertures for defence and telecommunication systems, switching network for satellite communication, and single-pole double throw switches for wireless application. Recently, RF MEMS switches have been developed for the application to the milimeter wave system. RF MEMS switches offer a substantilly higher performance than PM diode or FET switches. In this paper, SPDT(single-pole-double-throw) switch are designed to use 10 GHz. Actuation voltage and displacement are simulated by tool. And stress and distribution are simulated.

  • IPS 측위는 GPS음영 지역인 실내의 특정 위치 정보를 판단하는 시스템으로 현재 위치에서 발생되는 신호 정보를 수집하는 시스템과 이 신호들로 구성된 실내 측위 지도, 측위 위치를 결정하기 위한 알고리즘 등에 따라 여러 종류로 나누어진다. 대표적인 IPS로 2.4Ghz, 5.0GHz 대역의 무선 신호(WiFi, BLE, Sensor Network, etc)를 활용하는 RF신호 기반 WPS 등이 있다. RF 신호를 기반으로 하는 실내 측위는 발생 기기의 고장, 장애물 발생, 채널 간섭 현상 등으로 인해 측위 시점 수집된 신호와 구축된 지도의 신호 정보가 달라 측위 정확도가 낮아지는 경우가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 앞서 언급한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 기존 RF 환경을 사용하는 IPS 방안에 대하여 분석한다. 또한 RF 이외의 실내 측위 기술들에 대해서도 설명하고 측위 정확도를 위해 단일 측위 방식이 아닌 복합 측위 방식에 대한 설계를 제안한다.

Stacked Pad Area Away Package Modules for a Radio Frequency Transceiver Circuit (RF 송수신 회로의 적층형 PAA 패키지 모듈)

  • This paper presents a three dimensional stacked pad area away (PAA) package configuration as an implementation method of radio frequency (RF) circuits. 224MHz RF circuits of intelligence traffic system(ITS) were constructed with the stacked PAA RF pakage configuration. In the process of manufacturing the stacked PAA RF pakage, RF circuits were partitioned to subareas following their function and operating frequency. Each area of circuits separated to each subunits. The operating characteristics of RF PAA package module and the electrical properties of each subunits were examined. The measurement of electrical parameters for solder balls which were interconnects for stacked PAA RF packages showed that the parasitic capacitance and inductance were 30fF and 120pH, respectively, which might be negligible in PAA RF packaging system. HP 4396B network/spectrum analyzer revealed that the amplification gain of a receiver and transmitter at 224 MHz was 22dB and 27dB, respectively. The gain was 3dB lower than designed values. The difference was probably generated from fabrication process of the circuits by employing commercial standard

  • A quadruped monitoring robot is introduced. The robot has several features that poses arbitrary position thanks to a 4-wheel hive mechanism, transmits an image and command data via RF wireless communication, and moreover, the imaged date are transferred through a network communication. The robot plays a role in monitoring what is happening around the robot and covers wide range due to a moving camera operated by the 4-wheel mechanism. The robot system can be applied k versatile models based the distinguished techniques introduced in this paper

Development of Machine Learning Based Precipitation Imputation Method (머신러닝 기반의 강우추정 방법 개발)

  • Precipitation data is one of the essential input datasets used in various fields such as wetland management, hydrological simulation, and water resource management. In order to efficiently manage water resources using precipitation data, it is essential to secure as much data as possible by minimizing the missing rate of data. In addition, more efficient hydrological simulation is possible if precipitation data for ungauged areas are secured. However, missing precipitation data have been estimated mainly by statistical equations. The purpose of this study is to propose a new method to restore missing precipitation data using machine learning algorithms that can predict new data based on correlations between data. Moreover, compared to existing statistical methods, the applicability of machine learning techniques for restoring missing precipitation data is evaluated. Representative machine learning algorithms, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Random Forest (RF), were applied. For the performance of classifying the occurrence of precipitation, the RF algorithm has higher accuracy in classifying the occurrence of precipitation than the ANN algorithm. The F1-score and Accuracy values, which are evaluation indicators of the classification model, were calculated as 0.80 and 0.77, while the ANN was calculated as 0.76 and 0.71. In addition, the performance of estimating precipitation also showed higher accuracy in RF than in ANN algorithm. The RMSE of the RF and ANN algorithms was 2.8 mm/day and 2.9 mm/day, and the values were calculated as 0.68 and 0.73.
