보강제에 따른 EPDM의 원적외선 가교 특성 연구 (Effects of Reinforcing Fillers on Far-infrared Vulcanization Characteristics of EPDM)

  • 본 연구에서는 다양한 종류의 보강제를 혼합한 EPDM 컴파운드의 원적외선에 의한 가교 반응을 조사하였다. 보강제가 원적외선에 의한 가교 반응에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 컴파운드의 발열 온도 및 DSC 분석에 의한 가교도를 측정하였으며, 특히 원적외선에 의한 가교 특성을 비교하기 위하여 동일 조건에서 열풍에 의한 가교 반응을 조사하였다. 원적외선 가교 조건에서 카본블랙을 혼합한 EPDM 컴파운드는 입자크기가 증가함에 따라 열전도도가 증가하며 이에 따라 원적외선에 의한 가교도 역시 증가하였으나, 열풍에 의한 가교도의 변화에는 거의 영향을 주지 못하였다. 보강제 종류에 따른 원적외선 가교 특성 평가 결과, 열전도도가 높은 아세틸렌 블랙을 함유한 컴파운드의 가교도가 가장 높게 나타났으며, 열전도도가 유사한 카본블랙 및 침강실리카의 경우 상대적으로 원적외선 흡수 특성이 우수한 침강실리카 배합 컴파운드의 경우 원적외선에 의한 가교도가 높게 나타났다.

Effect of Carbon-based Nanofillers on the Toughening Behavior of Epoxy Resin

  • Carbon-based nanofillers, including nanodiamond (ND) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), have been employed in epoxy matrixes for improving the toughness, using the tow prepreg method, of epoxy compounds for high pressure tanks. The reinforcing performance was compared with those of commercially available toughening fillers, including carboxyl-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile (CTBN) and block copolymers, such as poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(butyl acrylate)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (BA-b-MMA). CTNB improved the mechanical performance at a relatively high filler loading of ~5 phr. Nanosized BA-b-MMA showed improved performance at a lower filler loading of ~2 phr. However, the mechanical properties deteriorated at a higher loading of ~5 phr because of the formation of larger aggregates. ND showed no significant improvement in mechanical properties because of aggregate formation. In contrast, surface-treated ND with epoxidized hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene considerably improved the mechanical properties, notably the impact strength, because of more uniform dispersion of particles in the epoxy matrix. CNTs noticeably improved the flexural strength and impact strength at a filler loading of 0.5 phr. However, the improvements were lost with further addition of fillers because of CNT aggregation.

  • Since the rigid and continuous networks of high-purity silica(white carbon) were relatively transparent to microwaves, high purity silica coupled with microwaves using a zirconia susceptor at room temperature and it was then heated to its melting temperature. The low-purity silica, contained small amount of impurities, yielded greater microwave absorption owing to easy motion of the interstitial alkali ions and it was then heated to its melting temperature. X-ray diffraction patterns of the low-purity silica were broader than those of the high-purity silica due to higher concentration of non-bridging bond and more deformed random network structure. In the vulcanization process of whitened or coloured rubber compound which is employing low-purity silica(white carbon) as a reinforcing filler, vulcanizate could be obtained effectively by microwave heating energy.

  • Scanning electron microscopy studies were conducted to examine the surface treatment effects of treating agents the proposed in the previous studies on various vulcanizates. Fracture surfaces of the vulcanizates compounded with kaolin treated with sodium polyphosphate of poly(maleic anhydride) presented favorable results as expected from the results of the previous studies. In other words, treating agents such as sodium polyphosphate and poly(maleic anhydride) show considerable reinforcing effects on the vulcanizates.

  • FRP를 이용한 콘크이트 보의 보수보강에서, 습윤 상태 시 에폭시의 접착 성늘 저하를 개선하기 위하여 무기계 충진제를 이용하여 부착성능을 개선하였다. 또한 무기계 충진제와 GFRP 사이의 보강 심지, 콘크리트와 GFRP를 결합시켜 주는 앵커로 2차 보강을하여, 콘크리트 보의 휨 성능을 연구하였다.

실리카가 도핑된 카본블랙을 함유한 고무조성물의 물성에 관한 연구 (The Study on Physical Properties of Rubber Compounds with Silica Doped Carbon Black)

  • The purpose of this experiments were investigated on the physical properties of rubber com-pounds containing two types carbon black. Bound rubber and interaction coefficient for com-pounds with pure carbon black were higher than those for the compounds with dual phase carbon black. Slightly higher values in 300% modulus and tensile strength indicated that the ratio of rubber-filler bound to rubber-rubber bound of pure carbon black were higher than those of com-pounds with dual phase carbon black. It was founded that dynamic properties, that is rebound, heat build-up, 0 & $60^{\circ}C$ tan $\delta$, and cut and chip loss of compounds with dual phase carbon black were better than those of compounds with pure carbon black, but abrasion property of dual phase carbon black was lower than those of pure carbon black because of low reinforcing ability.

Improvement of Abrasion Resistance and Friction of Rubber Blend Composition

  • On the basis of the use of shoes, the outsole, which is mainly made of rubber, has various characteristics. The most important of these characteristics is abrasion resistance and friction. Generally, the abrasion resistance can be improved by adding more reinforcing filler such as silica to the rubber; however, the friction force drops. Owing to these problems, rubber having excellent abrasion resistance and rubber having excellent frictional force are blended. In this study, various characteristics, including wear resistance and friction, were evaluated by blending NBR/SBR or NBR/BR mixture with high wear resistance and CIIR with high friction. The CIIR was increased up to 60 phr, whereas the friction wear characteristics were rapidly changed in the NBR/CIIR blend ratio from 75:15 to 60:30.

전선피복용 고분자 컴파운드의 제조 및 물성 연구 (Study on Manufacture and Properties of Polymer Compounds for Cable Sheath)

  • The four different polymer compounds were manufactured to make cable sheath for ship industry. Two kinds of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) were selected as main matrix polymers for compounding with fire retardant, crosslinking agent, filler, plasticizer, and other additives. The properties of the four compounded materials were investigated with the contents of fire retardant, silane coated aluminum hydroxide (S-ATH). Rheology, Mooney viscosity, and tensile strength increased with S-ATH contents by reinforcing effect. With increasing fire retardant amount, fire resistance increased, but cold resistance didn't show an obvious enhancement due to polar effect of vinyl acetate in EVA.

Thermal, Curing, Elastic, and Mechanical Properties of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer/Polybutadiene/Carbon Black Composites

  • In this study, we investigate the thermal and mechanical properties of composites comprising ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and polybutadiene (PB) obtained using carbon black (CB) as a reinforcing and compatibilizing filler. Owing to the significance of elastomeric materials in various industrial applications, blending of EPDM and PB has emerged as a strategic method to optimize the material properties for specific applications. This study offers insights into the blend composition, its microstructure, and the resulting macroscopic behaviors, focusing on the synergetic effects of composite materials. Furthermore, this study delves into curing and rheological behaviors, crosslink densities, and mechanical, thermal, and elastic properties of the elastomeric composites. Through systematic exploration, we believe that this study will be beneficial to material scientists and engineers working on developing advanced elastomeric composites.

제지 슬러지-폴리프로필렌수지 복합재의 기계적 성질 (Mechanical Properties of Paper Sludge-Polypropylene Composites)

  • 본 연구는 자원환경적인 측면에서 산업폐기물이자 환경오염원인 제지 슬러지를 이용함에 있어 용융형 목질-플라스틱 복합재의 강화충전제로 적용하여 그 사용가능성을 알아보고 또한 복합재의 물성에 대한 기초적인 자료을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 그 결과 제지 슬러지의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 복합재의 밀도는 증가하였으며 제지 슬러지의 입자 크기와 결합제 종류 및 함량은 복합재의 밀도에 크게 영향을 미치지 않았다. 제지 슐러지의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 복합재의 휨강도적 성질은 향상되었으며, 제지 슐러지의 입자 크기가 작을수룩 복합재의 휨강도는 증가하였으나 휨탄성계수는 증가하였다. 또한 복합재의 휨강도적 성질은 결합제의 종류에 관계없이 그 함량이 증가할수록 향상됨을 알 수 있었으며, 결합제의 분자량이 더 큰 Epolene G-3003의 경우 그 효과가 더 큼을 알 수 있었다. 대체로 제지 슬러지의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 복합재의 충격강도는 다소 감소하는 경향을 볼 수 있지만, 전체적으로 notched impact strength는 크게 감소하지는 않았다. unnotched impact strength의 경우 제지 슬러지의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 그 감소 폭이 컸다. 제지 슬러지의 입자크기가 복합재의 충격강도에 미치는 영향을 보면 notched impact strength의 경우 제지 슬러지의 입자 크기에 따라 충격강도에 미치는 영향은 거의 없었으며, unnotched impact strength의 경우 입자 크기가 가장 작은 100mesh 이하일 때 가장 우수하였고 그 다음으로 20~40mesh, 60~80mesh 순이었다. 복합재의 notched impact strength 는 결합제의 종류와 함량에 따라 미치는 영향은 거의 없음을 알 수 있었으나 unnotched impact strength는 Epolene E-43의 경우 첨가량이 증가할수록 충격강도가 감소하였고, Epolene G-3003의 경우는 첨가량이 증가할수록 충격강도가 감소하다가 다시 증가하는 경향을 보였다.
