  • Background: Few studies have reported the results of arthroscopic coracoplasty concomitantly conducted with subscapularis tear. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine and compare the outcomes of arthroscopic subscapularis repair after arthroscopic coracoplasty using either the subacromial approach or rotator interval approach. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 51 patients who underwent coracoplasty with subscapularis repair. The patients were grouped according to whether the subacromial approach group (24 patients) or rotator interval approach group (27 patients) was used during coracoplasty. Preoperative and postoperative visual analogue scale scores, American shoulder and elbow surgeons scores, Korean shoulder scores, and range of motion (ROM) were assessed. Assessment of repaired rotator cuff tendon integrity was performed at 1 year after surgery using either magnetic resonance imaging or ultrasonography. Results: At final follow-up, overall functional scores and ROM improved significantly in both groups when compared with preoperative values (p>0.05). The re-tear rates were not significantly different between groups; however, the rotator interval approach group showed a significant increase in ROM compared with that in the subacromial approach group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Arthroscopic coracoplasty conducted concomitantly with subscapularis repair can provide a satisfactory outcome. There were no significant differences between the two approach groups regarding final functional scores and re-tear rates. However, the rotator interval approach group showed a greater increase in ROM at final follow-up, especially in external rotation.

  • The fungal genus Suillus Micheli ex S. F. Gray plays important roles in the survival and growth of plant seedlings. Humans have utilized these ectomycorrhizal fungi to enhance the nutrient uptake and defense systems of plants, particularly in the reforestation of coniferous forests. The genus Suillus is easily distinguishable by its distinctive morphological features, although the morphology of the fruiting body does not facilitate reliable interspecies discrimination. On the basis of micro-morphological features and internal transcribed spacer sequence analysis, we found that 51 of 117 Korean Suillus specimens had initially been misidentified. The list of the 12 Suillus species previously recorded in Korea was re-evaluated and revised to only eight distinct species: S. americanus, S. bovinus, S. granulatus, S. grevillei, S. luteus, S. pictus, S. placidus, and S. viscidus. We provide taxonomical descriptions for six of these species from the sample specimens.

  • Assemblage has become a popular concept in modern socio-spatial theories with relational and material turns. This article investigates the concept of assemblage focusing on Deleuze and Guattari. By comparing similar concepts such as Foucault's apparatus and Actor-Network Theory, this article demonstrates that assemblage emphasizes not only deterritorialization but also (re)territorialization, and that the exteriality of relations is a critical aspect that differentiate assemblage from other relational spatial concepts. Assemblage can highlight the value of empiricism as an analytical tool, and be open to new spatial imaginations as well as multiple existences and possiblities of alternative political projects and practices.

  • The high density module (HDM) has advantages for its larger active area and smaller current density. This new way of making a photovoltaic (PV) module method has benefit for increasing module power with the same installed area. Because HDM consisted with serially connected PV strings, loss of strings during the fabrication process can increase the overall production cost.1-2 This study investigates the rework conditions of the shingled strings with electrically conductive adhesives (ECA). By heating the electrically connected area of a fabricated string, cured area become soft and a string can be detached for the rework process. After rework process, a refabricated string showed 5~10% increased output power compared to before rework process and reached to the 90~95% output power compare to the undamaged strings.

  • Background: This study aimed to examine the preliminary clinical results of the infraspinatus rotational transfer procedure for irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears. Methods: This study included 34 patients (mean age, 68.4 years). Their mean tear width and length measurements were 50.9 mm and 50.6 mm, respectively. The functional outcomes, including physician-determined and patient-reported scores, were evaluated before and at 1 year after surgery. The structural outcomes determined using the magnetic resonance imaging examination results were also assessed. Results: The clinical scores significantly improved after surgery compared with the scores before surgery: the Constant-Murley score (53.3±21.1 to 76.8±10.5), University of California at Los Angeles Shoulder score (15.6±3.6 to 27.8±6.7), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Shoulder score (51.8±18.3 to 89.1±13.5), and WORC score (925.0±436.8 to 480.3±373.2) (all p<0.001). Postoperative re-tears were noted in two patients (5.9%). Conclusions: One year postoperatively, the patient's clinical scores significantly improved, with a re-tear rate of 5.9%.

  • Aspergillus is one of the largest and diverse genera of fungi with huge economical, biotechnological, and social significance. Taxonomically, Aspergillus is divided into six subgenera comprising 27 sections. In this study, 235 strains of Aspergillus subgenus Circumdati (section: Candidi, Circumdati, Flavi, Flavipedes, Nigri, and Terrei) preserved at the Korean Agricultural Culture Collection (KACC) were analyzed and re-identified using a combined dataset of partial b-tubulin (BenA), Calmodulin (CaM) gene sequences and morphological data. We confirmed nineteen species to be priorly reported in Korea (A. neotritici, A. terreus, A. floccosus, A. allahabadii, A. steynii, A. westerdijkiae, A. ochraceus, A. ostianus, A. sclerotiorum, A. luchuensis, A. tubingensis, A. niger, A. welwitschiae, A. japonicus, A. nomius, A. tamarii, A. parasiticus, A. flavi, and A. oryzae). Among the studied strains, three species (A. subalbidus, A. iizukae, and A. uvarum), previously unreported or not officially documented, were discovered in Korea, to the best of our knowledge. We have given a detailed description of the characteristic features of the three species, which remain uncharted in Korea.

  • I propose the 5Gbps/1.25Gbps WDM/TDM hybrid Passive Optical Network(PON) with inverse RZ(Return to Zero) code coded downstream and NRZ(Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation and analyze its performance by performing simulation with MATLAB. The results have shown that an optical line termination (OLT) can be connected to 8, 16 optical network unit (ONU)s with the Bit Error Rate(BER) of $10^{-9}$ when the distance between OLT and ONU is 10Km and transmitted optical powers are more than -3.8, -0.9dBm, respectively. The proposed WDM/TDM hybrid PON system can solve the problem of data rate limit in upstream which happened in the conventional TDM PON because the upstream data rate is proportional to ONU and does not require a light source in ONU and its control circuits in OLT, thus can be a useful technology for asymmetric optical subscriber networks.

  • Freeze-drying process was used for 10 major protein foods referred by the Korea Health Statistics 2011 as follows; chicken, pork, beef, eggs, tofu, squid, soybean, mackerel, anchovy, and pollack/frozen pollack. Boiled samples and re-hydrated samples after freeze-drying were prepared for analysis. The weight variation, the chromaticity, the mechanical texture and sensory properties by eight trained panelists were measured. In the ratio of re-hydration, the anchovy showed the highest value(89.40%), followed by eggs, and squid showed the lowest value(35.51%). Changes of Hunter color value were observed among all samples. For rates on changes of hardness, every sample was increased except for eggs(p<.05). Among the 9 samples, except for eggs, chicken showed the lowest rate of increase in hardness(125.44%) while squid showed the highest rate of increase in hardness(1335.1%). Except for eggs and pork, eight samples represented differences in sensory properties, especially in juiciness and tenderness(p<.05). As a result, we found that egg is the most suitable for freeze-drying among 10 protein sources followed by pork and chicken.

  • The effect of pressure gradients on the hairpin structures in three different turbulent boundary layers (ZPG : Re(sub)$\theta$=910, FPG : Re(sub)$\theta$=575, APG : Re(sub)$\theta$=1290) has been examined with instantaneous velocity fields obtained in streamwise-wall-normal planes using PIV (particle image velocimetry) method. In the outer layer hairpin vortices occur in streamwise-aligned packets that propagate with small velocity dispersion. The signature pattern of the hairpin consists of a spanwise vortex core located above a region of strong second quadrant fluctuation (u<0 and v>0 : Q2 event) is clearly observed. The formation of packets explains the occurrence of multiple VITA events in turbulent burst. Noticeable differences are found in the average inclination angles of hairpin vortex packets which are 45$^{\circ}$, 35.7$^{\circ}$, and 51.9$^{\circ}$in the case of ZPG, FPG and APG, respectively. It is found that the large, time-varying, irregularly shaped zones with nearly constant streamwise momentum exist throughout the boundary layer. Within the interior of the envelope the spatial coherence between the velocity fields induced by the individual vortices leads to strongly retarded streamwise momentum, explaining the zones of uniform momentum. The formation of the uniform momentum zone is remarkably different with respect to the pressure gradients especially in the logarithmic layer.

  • The MIRIS (Multi-purpose InfraRed Imaging System) is a compact IR space Telescope, which has been developed by KASI since 2008 as the main payload of Korean STSAT-3. It was launched successfully by a Dnepr Rocket at Yasny Launch site, Russia in November 2013. After the launch, the STSAT-3 successfully settled down at Sun synchronous orbit with altitude of ~ 600km. Communications were regularly made between the ground station and the MIRIS with other secondary payload. We made a series of tests of the MIRIS during the verification period and found that all functions including the passive cooling are working as expected. The MIRIS has a wide-field of view $3.67{\times}3.67$ degrees and wavelength coverage from 0.9 to 2.0 micro-meter with the angular resolution of 51.6 arcsec. The main science missions of the MIRIS are (1) mapping of the Galactic plane with Paschen-alpha line (1.88 micro-meter) for the study of warm interstellar medium and (2) the measurement of large angular fluctuations of cosmic near infrared background radiation with I (1.05 micro meter) and H (1.6 micro meter) bands to identify their origin. We present the results of MIRIS initial operation in this paper.
