  • The renewal of existing buildings rather than new construction has increased due to it's cost effective characteristics. Remodeling is also an environmentally-friendly approach that reduces the amount of waste in construction site. Remodeling can sometimes include partial destruction of the structural members of a building. In addition it is important that the buildings under going remodeling retrofitted to make themselves stable and meet up with the future demands for better structural performance. The objective of this paper is to present the test results and structural behavior of RC walls that are perforated and to introduce effective retrofitting methods by evaluating efficacy of passive retrofit and active retrofit. Passive retrofit and Active retrofit using carbon fiber sheets, steel plates and wire that are widely used for strengthening the main members of existing buildings. The test results showed that the failed specimens had shear fractures and that two different types of retrofit method had different effects on the strengths of each specimen.

  • Recently, according to the increasement of high-rise building construction and domestic situation, requirements of rapid cycle construction are increasing. For more economical and rapid cycle construction, it is required to reduce formwork cost. So formwork have to be stripped as soon as possible. But as fresh concrete is loaded with construction load, it is likely that the structure will have problems with safety and serviceability. To reduce construction cycle economically, safety and serviceability of structure against construction load have to be considered. But as behavior of structure under construction is so complicated, behavior of structure has to be investigated according to construction stage. Therefore, through field instrumentation of apartment, behavior of structure under construction was analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the interoperability of IFC for the basic data such as the size of member section, length, thickness, reference location, and eccentricity of the structural members. For this, the method to represent the basic data of structural member is proposed. In the proposed method, the most important criteria is the way that engineers recognize and treat the basic data of structural members. Then, in this study, an IFC file is generated based on the proposed method for a simple RC building composed of members and it is examined that the correct basic data can be derived from the IFC file in the way that engineers do in practice. From the results of the examination, the proposed method is expected to improve the interoperability of IFC for the basic data.

  • The modular apartment has been completed for the first time in Korea through the national research and development (R&D) project in December 2017, and 30 households moved in. Although conditions such as technicality and constructability have to be satisfied to adopt and spread the modular apartments in the future, economic feasibility is the most important factor among the conditions. The economic feasibility of modular apartments can be compared with that of existing reinforced concrete (RC) structure apartments. It is highly important to reduce the construction cost through standardization above all. The standardization refers to establishment of national design standards and principles, and it is important for manufacturers and building companies to comply with those standards and principles. The modular construction (MC) skill in Korea is at an early adoption stage and the MC market is not widely expanded yet. Thus, the application of the MC design, which is the basis of the standardization, has not been widely accepted. However, related R&D projects are now performing mainly by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport to promote modular apartments in recent years and the design standardization standard (draft) is now prepared to be notified as a result of the steady research. Furthermore, pilot complexes for demonstration purpose are under construction, starting from public rental apartments. Thus, MC method-applied public rental houses will be spread in near future. This study aims to investigate the current design status in the Ga-Yang Housing as a pilot modular complex to produce and supply more economical and efficient modular houses, and analyze the problems by comparing the design standardization standards with pre-notified design standardization standards and summarize the modifications between them thereby presenting foundational data for establishment of the design standardization in the modular business industry.

  • Reinforcing bars, a major component of the pre-fab structure, adheres to the existing on-site assembly method and attempts to develop and commercialize the technology of the pre-assembly method, but the effect is insignificant. Welded Wire / Bar Mat (WBM) has various advantages such as commercialization of rebar through machine manufacturing to improve workability, but it is different from the existing design and the construction method is different from the previous one. Therefore, to maximize the advantages of WBM and improve productivity, manufacturing, transportation, and construction from the design stage should be considered based on BIM from the initial design stage. In this paper, the concept of the design support system for the WBM was established based on the use of BIM in concrete reinforcement and the preliminary research on the WBM. WBM conversion design was performed for the existing prefabricated members, and based on this, the exchange format and system of the master prefabricated model with the WBM design data were set up. As a result of the pilot test, it was found that the traditional reinforcing bar information extracted from the master prefab model has transmitted 100% accurately. As for the WBM information, 100% of the information on the straight reinforcement was transmitted and represented, and the information on the bent reinforcement was found to have a 90% recall in the master BIM tool.

  • This study proposes a new hybrid approach that utilizes post-earthquake survey data and numerical analysis results from an evolving finite element routing model to capture vulnerability processes. In order to achieve cost-effective evaluation and optimization, this study introduced an online data evolution data platform. The proposed method consists of four stages: 1) development of diagnostic sensitivity curve; 2) determination of probability distribution parameters of throughput threshold through optimization; 3) update of distribution parameters using smart evolution method; 4) derivation of updated diffusion parameters. Produce a blending curve. The analytical curves were initially obtained based on a finite element model used to represent a similar RC building with an estimated (previous) capacity height in the damaged area. The previous data are updated based on the estimated empirical failure probabilities from the post-earthquake survey data, and the mixed sensitivity curve is constructed using the update (subsequent) that best describes the empirical failure probabilities. The results show that the earthquake rupture estimate is close to the empirical rupture probability and corresponds very accurately to the real engineering online practical analysis. The objectives of this paper are to obtain adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services, promote inclusive and sustainable urbanization and participation, implement sustainable and disaster-resilient buildings, sustainable human settlement planning and management. Therefore, with the continuous development of artificial intelligence and management strategy, this goal is expected to be achieved in the near future.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joint regions using replacing recycled coarse aggregate with hybrid fiber (steel fiber+PVA fiber) in existing reinforced concrete building. Therefore it was constructed and tested seven specimens retrofitting the beam-column joint regions using such retrofitting materials. Specimens, designed by retrofitting the beam-column joint regions of reinforced concrete building, were showed the stable failure mode and increase of load-carrying capacity due to the effect of crack control at the times of initial loading and bridge of retrofitting hybrid fiber during testing. Specimens BCJGPSR series, designed by the retrofitting of replacing recycled coarse aggregate with hybrid fiber in reinforecd beam-column joint regions were increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 1.01~1.04 times and its energy dissipation capacity by 1.06~1.29 times in comparison with standard specimen BCJS. Also, specimen $BCJGPSR_1$ were increased its energy dissipation capacity by 1.33~1.65 times in comparison with specimens BCJS, BCJP and BCJGPR series for a displacement ductility of 9.

  • The Purpose of this study was to establish the basic data on the mechanical properties of PCM in the high temperature range. To this end, an experiment was conducted on the characteristics of the residual compressive strength by temperature (100, 200, 400 and $600^{\circ}C$) with a fixed temperature heating. An after heating test was performed to investigate the properties after fire damage. The result showed that the residual compressive strength of PCM had a tendency to decrease, regardless of the type of polymer. It was also found that when the contents were low, the residual compressive strength started to greatly decrease from the high temperature range of $400^{\circ}C$, and that the specimen containing PAE showed a steeper slope than the specimen containing EVA. However, since little studies have been conducted on the mechanical properties of PCM with the high temperature, it is considered that, in addition to this study, basic studies must be preceded, including studies on the repairing methods.

  • In the construction industry, there is a growing demand for the accurate calculation of the quantity take-off and construction budget at the design stage, and it is likewise important to grasp changes in the construction budget and quantity take-off if design alterations are made. In addition, lawsuits related to the quantity take-off and cost of construction are frequent; therefore, the calculation of these factors using building information modeling (BIM) has emerged as an alternative. However, existing 2D-based methods are still used more frequently than BIM-based methods for quantity take-offs and construction budgets. This is because of the lack of BIM experience of estimation workers and the absence of a national standard. However, from a designer's point of view, it is necessary to understand the quantity take-off and construction cost based on BIM and accurately create the design according to the budget. In this study, the quantity take-offs of concrete, rebar, and reinforced concrete structures (apartments) in Seoul and Yeongjong were compared with the quantity take-offs based on 2D and BIM methods. From the viewpoint of the designer, we aim to increase the accuracy of BIM-based quantity take-offs.

  • In this study, the seismic performance of low-rise piloti buildings with eccentric core (shear wall) positions was analyzed and reviewed. A prototype was selected among constructed low-rise piloti buildings with eccentric cores designed based on KBC2005. The seismic performance of the building showed plastic behavior in the X-direction and elastic behavior in the Y-direction. The inter-story drift is larger than that of a concentric core case and has the maximum allowed drift ratio. The displacement ratio of the first story is much larger than that of upper stories, and the frame structure in the first story is vulnerable to lateral force. Therefore, low-rise piloti buildings with eccentric cores need to have less lateral displacement, as well as reinforcement of the lateral resistance capacity in seismic design and seismic retrofit.
