The property of four tropical hardwoods were analyzed. xylans, extracted with 24% of potassium hydroxide and purified according to ethanol titration procedure, were examined for Pn, the uronic acid, methoxyl groups and acetyl groups content. Only mangrove, whose xylan content is similar to that of hardwoods in the temperature zone, had the ratio of units of xylose residue to the units of uronic acid residue as high as that of hardwoods in the temperature zone. Content of methoxyl groups showed the same result as uronic acid residue content. Various hemicellulose including D-xylose residue were contained in xylans extracted by D M S O. Acetyl groups content was compressed of 5.4% of M D X and 6.8% of R D X. Xylans unextracted by D M S O had acetyl groups. Pn measured by the viscosity method was about 200 and similar to the hardwood xylans of temperature zone. DPn calculated by uronic acid residue was similar to that of tropical zone.
In the book of , it is recorded that the names of ingressive stone stairs to the main shrine were Cheongwoongyo(blue cloud bridge) and Baekwoongyo(white cloud bridge) and the names of stairs to the paradise hall were Yeonwhagyo(lotus bridge) and Chilbogyo(seven treasure bridge). But, the ingressive stone stairs to the main shrine and the paradise hall are single consecutive stairs with 2 levels respectively. Because of this, it is rather hard to clearly designate the names to the upper level and the lower level stairs. But, of the stairs to the Paradise hall, the lower stairs have a carving of lotus, and the upper stairs have seven stairs. In this aspect of artifacts, we can safely assume that the upper stairs are Chilbogyo and the lower are Yeonwhagyo. But, for the ingressive stairs to the main shrine, there is no such artificial hint. So, it is difficult to designate the upper and the lower stairs for the two bridges. Especially, it is not clear whether the descriptive order of "lower stairs upper stairs" in the names of Yeonwhagyo and Chilbogyo can be applied to the names of stairs to the main shrine. It is because the general descriptive order is "upper lower" rather than "lower upper." Even though there have been many studies on the Bulguksa temple, the study on the ingressive stone stairs to the main shrine has not made till now. Therefore, the study on the position of Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo stairs can have its validity. In this paper, the positional approach to Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo has been made in following aspects: First, the temple structure of Bulguksa; Second, the five element theory of oriental philosophy and the Book of Changes; Third, the directional consciousness of Buddhism. Through the aspects, the validity of up-down position of Cheongwoongyo and Baekwoongyo has been sought. In this research, it can be concluded that the upper level of ingressive stone stairs to the main shrine of Bulguksa is Cheongwoongyo and the lower level is Baekwoongyo. When considered in the Buddhist directional consciousness, it forms the total structure of "East-Cheongwoongyo South- Baekwoongyo West-Yeonwhagyo North-Chilbogyo."

The coastal erosion and the look of a heap which are mainly occurred in the district along the coast are found for various forms such as the estuary closing, the estuary sand bar the development of the coast sand bar, and the modification of coastline. Recently, due to the coastal development, these transformations have been intensified. The change of coast, which has been made slow progress is required long-term study on a searching examination of the root cause and a suggestion of a counter measure. In this research, ortho aerial photos were produced to analyze volumes of topographical alternations that have been progressed fer the long run, by 10s cycle from 1940s through 1990s, to compute accurate volumes of coastline variation, through a datum point and G.C.P (Ground Control Point). Also in this study, without respect to water level, the coastline variation was analyzed by using comparatively analyzed a Idlest land map, a cadastral map. And to analyze topographical variation volumes, the tidal station's materials was used under consideration f3r tide. Finally, topographical variation volumes are comparatively analyzed through surveying and sounding and a point of fine of aviation photographing was calculated and revised. After this research, by using ortho aerial photos, We can understand efficiency of these in computing volumes of variations of coastline by analyzing quantitatively erosion and look of a heap. Besides, in the future, these will be used for information gathering of the coastline integration control system.
Montmorillonite (MMT) modified with siloxane diamine was reacted with a reactant obtained from 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and polyester type polyol, $Nippollan4010(\bar{M}_n2000)$. Finally, polyurethane (PU)/MMT composites were prepared by using 1,4-butane diol as a chain extender in $25\;wt\%$ solution of N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). It was expected that these nanocomposites had superior exfoliation property to that of MMT dispersed polyurethanes produced by simple mixing due to insertion of siloxane main chain to the silicate interlayer of MMT. Extent of reaction and formation of final products were analysed by using FT-IR spectroscopy. Dispersion into the PU and intercalation of MMT were identified by applying X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Tensile data were acquired by universal test machine (UTM). Thermal stability and variation of surface energy were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) method and measurement of contact angle on the synthesized composites, respectively. As the results the organo-MMT modified with siloxane diamine in the PU composites has an intercalated structure relatively well-expanded rather than a completely exfoliated structure. The tensile strengths and the moduli for the PU/organo-MMT composites were drastically enhanced in comparison to those of $PU/Na^+-MMT$ composites.
The evolution dynamics of nanoscale Ge islands on both Si (001) and (113) surfaces is explored using ultraviolet photoelectron emission microscopy (UV-PEEM). Real-time monitoring of the in-situ growth of the Ge island structures can allow us to study the variation of the size, the shape and the density of the nanostructures. For Ge depositions greater than ${\sim}4$ monolayer (ML) with a growth rate of ${\sim}0.4\;ML/min$ at temperatures of $450-550^{\circ}C$, we observed island nucleation on both surfaces indicating the transition from strained layer to island structure. During continuous deposition the circular islands grew larger via ripening processes. AFM measurements showed that the islands grown on Si (001) were dome-shaped while the islands on Si (113) were multiple-side faceted with flat tops of (113)-orientation. In contrast, for Ge deposition with a lower growth rate of ${\sim}0.15\;ML/min$ on Si(113), we observed the shape transition from circular into elongated island structures. The elongated islands grew longer along the [$33\bar{2}$] during continuous Ge deposition. The shape evolution of the islands is discussed in terms of strain relaxation and kinetic effects.
The development length equations of the GFRP rebars are suggested based on the pullout tests performed in this study. A total of 48 pullout and modified pullout tests were completed. Test variables included embedment length (L=10, 15, 20, and $30d_b$), vertical and horizontal installation of the rebars, height of the rebars (H=100 and 300 mm), and cover thickness $(C=2{\sim}5d_b)$. D13 GFRP rebars domestically developed were used in the experimental program. The average of the bond strength of all vertically installed GFRP rebars was 6.39 MPa with a 5% fractile of 4.63 MPa. A basic development length equation was derived that resulted in an equation equivalent to the one proposed in the ACI 440.1R-03. Careful reevaluation of the bond strength using the modified pullout test indicated that a modification of the design equation was necessary so that the basic development length increases by 11%. The top bar effect of the horizontally installed rebars as well as the effect of the cover thickness were determined and included in the set of suggested equations. Since the current equations were derived from testing rebars embedded in relatively low strength concrete $(f_{ck}=20{\sim}24MPa)$, they result in conservative development lengths when applied to bars embedded in higher strength concretes.
Membrane process was investigated to recover process water and valuable gold from washing water of electroless PCB plating processes. The filtration experiments were carried out using not only a RO membrane test cell to determine suitable membrane for washing water but also spiral wound membrane modules of nanofiltration and reverse osmosis for scale-up. At first, RO-TL(tap water, low pressure), RO-BL(brackish water, low pressure) and RO-normal(for water purifier) sheet membranes made by Saehan Co. were tested, and the performance of RO-TL membrane showed most suitable f3r recovery of soft etching, catalyst and Ni washing waters. As a result of RO test cell, the experiments for scale-up were carried out using RO-TL modules far water purifier at 7bar and $25^{\circ}C $The permeate flux fur Au washing water was about 30 LMH, but Au rejection was less than 80%. The permeate fluxes for Pd, Ni and soft etching washing water were about 22, 17 and 10 LMH, respectively. The Pd, Ni and Cu rejections showed more than 85, 97 and 98% respectively. The nanofiltration module for water purifier was introduced to recover Au selectively from Au, Ni and Cu ions in Au washing water. Most of Ni and Cu ions in the feed washing water were removed, and only Au ion was existed 81.9% in the permeate. Furthermore, Au ion in the permeate was concentrated and recovered by RO-TL membrane module. Finally, Au was also able to recover effectively by using 4 inch diameter spiral wound modules of NF and RO-TL membranes, in series.
A 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ sample was prepared by mechanical milling under $H_2$ (reactive mechanical grinding). Its hydriding and dehydriding properties were then examined. Activation of the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ sample was not required. At n=1, the sample absorbed 3.11 wt% H for 2.5 min, 3.55 wt% H for 5 min, 3.86 wt% H for 10 min, and 4.23 wt% H for 30 min at 593K under 12 bar $H_2$. At n=1, the sample desorbed 0.17 wt% H for 5 min, 0.74 wt% H for 10 min, 2.03 wt% H for 30 min, and 2.81 wt% H for 60 min at 593K under 1.0 bar $H_2$. The XRD pattern of the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ after reactive mechanical grinding showed Mg, ${\beta}-MgH_2$ and small amounts of ${\gamma}-MgH_2$, $NbH_2$, $MgF_2$ and $NbF_3$. The XRD pattern of the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ dehydrided at n=3 revealed Mg, ${\beta}-MgH_2$, a small amount of MgO and very small amounts of $MgH_2$ and $NbH_2$. The 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ had a higher initial hydriding rate and a larger quantity of hydrogen absorbed for 60 min than the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% MnO and the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $Fe_2O_3$, which were reported to have quite high hydriding rates and/or dehydriding rates. The 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $NbF_5$ had a higher initial dehydriding rate (after an incubation period) and a larger quantity of hydrogen desorbed for 60 min than the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% MnO and the 90 wt% Mg-10 wt% $Fe_2O_3$.
Two crystal structures of dehydrated, $Ag^{+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A treated at $250^{\circ}C$ with 0.15 torr of Cs vapor have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique in the cubic space group $Pm{\bar\3m$ at $21(1)^{\circ}C$ (a = 12.344(2) $\AA$ and 12.304(2) $\AA$). Their structures were refined to the final error indices, R (weighted), of 0.091 with 180 reflections, and 0.093 with 179 reflections, respectively, for which I > $3\sigma(I).$ In each structure, Cs species are found at four different crystallographic sites: 3 $Cs^{+}$ ions per unit cell are located at 8-ring centers, ca. 6.81∼7.14 $Cs^{+}$ ions are found on opposite 6-rings on threefold axes in the large cavity, ca. 1.93∼2.03 $Cs^{+}$ ions are found on threefold axes in the sodalite unit, and 0.53∼0.66 $Cs^{+}$ ions lie on opposite 4-rings. Also, ca. 4.12∼4.27 Ag atoms are located near the center of the large cavity. In these structures, excess cesium atoms in a unit cell are associated with other $Cs^{+}$ ions on a single threefold axis to form the linear cationic cluster $(Cs_4)^{3+}$. By blocking 8-rings, the $Cs^{+}$ ions may have prevented silver atoms from migrating out of the structure. The Ag atoms are likely to have formed hexasilver clusters at the centers of the large cavities. Each hexasilver cluster is stabilized by coordination to 14 $Cs^{+}$ ions.

The corrosion of reinforcements embedded in concrete causes severe deterioration in reinforced concrete structures. As a countermeasure, epoxy coated reinforcements are used to prevent corrosion of reinforcements. When epoxy coated bars are used, the resistance of corrosion is excellent, but epoxy coating on the bars have a disadvantage of reduction in bond capacity comparing to that of normal bars. Therefore, it is necessary to confirm the bond performance of epoxy coated reinforcements through experimental and analytical methods. Bond behaviors of epoxy coated bars for various diameters of 13 and 19mm and thicknesses of cover concrete of 3 types(ratio of cover to bar diameter) are examined. As the diameters of the epoxy coated bars increase, the difference of bond strength between epoxy coated and uncoated bars also increases and damage patterns showed pull out failure. In addition, finite element analysis was performed based on the bond-slip relationship obtained by direct pullout test and compared with the flexural test results. It is considered that flexural member test is more useful than pullout test for simulating the behavior of actual structure.
