The health benefits associated with tea consumption have resulted in the wide inclusion of green tea extracts in botanical dietary supplements, which are widely consumed as adjuvants for complementary and alternative medicines. Tea contains polyphenols such as catechins or flavan-3-ols including (-)-epicatechin (EC), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG), and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), as well as the alkaloid, caffeine. The contents of catechins and caffeine in green tea are considered as a standard of quality evaluation of green tea. Therefor, the purpose of this study was to investigate the most suitable HPLC condition for simultaneous determination of catechins and caffeine in green tea extracts. The efficient HPLC analytical condition of catechins and caffeine contained green tea extracts was developed. The gradient elution employed a $250\;mm\;{\times}\;4.6\;mm$ i.d. YMC-pak ODS-AM 303 column. The gradient system was used two mobile phases. A gradient elution was performed with mobile phase A, consisting of 0.1% aqueous phosphoric acid, and mobile phase B, comprising 100% MeOH, and delivered at a flow rate of 1 mL/min as follows: $0{\sim}25\;min$, 80% A; $26{\sim}50\;min$, $80{\sim}70%$ A; 51 min, 80% A. $51{\sim}55\;min$, 80% A. The UV detection wavelength was set at 280 nm. The limit of detection (LOD) for catechins and caffeine standards were under 50 ng/mL.
Software for refrigerator capable of both rapid fermentation and suitable storage of Kimchi was developed and its performance was investigated. Refrigerator system consists of an insulated fermentation room, heater, damper for the control of outer cold air and two sensors for recognizing temperature of heater and fermentation room, which control temperature and time period of affecting Kimchi fermentation. Effects of fermentation at different NaCl concentration and three fermentation function keys were studied; At key I, time which was elapsed to edible ripening state, pH 4.5 and total acid 0.6%, was about $3{\sim}4$, $4{\sim}5$ and $11{\sim}12$ days, respectively. At key II, time was about $2{\sim}3$, $3{\sim}4$, and $10{\sim}11$ days, and at key III, about 2, 3 and $9{\sim}10$ days, respectively. Effect of storage at three fermentation function keys was all maintained to the level of a palatable pH range until 14 days. Sensory evaluation of Kimchi showed also significant difference in a taste.
To determine whether FT-IR spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis for whole cell extracts can be used to discriminate major leguminous plant at metabolic level, seed extracts of six leguminous plants were subjected to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). FT-IR spectral data from seed extracts were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA), partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). The PCA could not fully discriminate six leguminous plants, however PLS-DA could successfully discriminate six leguminous plants. The hierarchical dendrogram based on PLS-DA separated the six leguminous plants into four branches. The first branch was consisted of all three Vigna species including Vigna radiata var. radiate, Vigna angularis var. angularis and Vigna unguiculata subsp. Unguiculata. Whereas Pisum sativum var. sativum, Glycine max L and Phaseolus vulgaris var. vulgaris were clustered into a separate branch respectively. The overall results showed that metabolic discrimination system were in accordance with known phylogenic taxonomy. Thus we suggested that the hierarchical dendrogram based on PLS-DA of FT-IR spectral data from seed extracts represented the most probable chemotaxonomical relationship between six leguminous plants.

This study is to predict the life exponent by measuring, over 7 years, the insulation resistance of high-voltage cables in 22 kV operation for 13 years. We found out the lifetime index in order to determine the time-dependent trend of deteriorating performance of power cables. The insulation resistances decreased according to elapsed time. We found that: the initial measurements of the cable systems were in agreement with the deterioration properties of the Arrhenius Law. By analyzing the life curve of the cable system, we also verified that the value of the life exponent (n) in the v-t characteristics defined by Weibull distribution has values from 10 to 11. When designing the cable system, the initial value of life exponent was chosen as 9 without any grounding. We have verified that the theoretical grounding based on the design safety of n=9 was actually the best one available. In the short term, we apply our research result to the diagnosis and evaluation of the power cables. In the long run, however, we plan to reduce the cost of the installation and management of cable systems in operation at power stations.
In recent years, the emergence of virtual reality (VR Virtual Reality) technology has provided a new model of safety education, enabling users to learn and respond to disasters in a virtual safety education environment. However, the related VR products related to domestic and foreign R & D are relatively simple, there is no practical training on specific accident, and it is not practical enough to play a sufficient role in safety education. In this paper, the problems and disadvantages of VR technology applied in the field of automobile safety education as an example of automobile accident among the types of disasters are examined, and a system framework of automotive safety education based on VR technology is proposed. The vehicle safety education system proposed in this paper will help users to improve driving safety consciousness, to acquire safety knowledge in driving, and to acquire driving safety skill which is very important for automobile safety education. In addition, the design and production methods of safety education based on VR technology are considered to have important reference implications for the application of modern teaching and teaching theory by integrating with VR technology and developing related teaching materials products and finally introducing education.
Unlike advancements on land, the maritime industry has been slow to embrace new technologies, primarily due to user apprehension toward unproven innovations in the development process. The existing paradigm of technology development, marked by expert-oriented and laboratory-centric test environments, often leads to a stagnation of progress at the research stage, as the applicability of the technology remains uncertain. This study departed from the conventional research system and introduced a novel methodology known as a "living lab." This approach aimed to ensure applicability by actively involving field-oriented users throughout the entire lifecycle of technology development, encompassing planning, development, verification, and evaluation. The presentation of a plan for the construction and operation of such a living lab in this study is expected to contribute to establishing an efficient experimentation system for ships that can reflect user opinions in the future and to secure technology applicability in the maritime field.

In this study, anaerobic co-digestion was carried out using desulfurization sludge and sewage sludge (primary sludge) to evaluate the effects of sulfur compounds in anaerobic digestion. The experiment was carried out in the form of a batch test using 500 mL duran bottle, and the mixing ratio of the feedstock was selected based on the ratio of COD/SO4. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the amount of biogas generated and the yield decreased at the mixing ratio of COD/SO4 20 or less. In particular, below COD/SO4 10, it was lower than seed (283.5 mL) which was set without feedstock to correct biogas generated by itself from seed sludge. Methane yield tended to decrease from a ratio of COD/SO4 20 or less to 0.135 m3/kg VS compared to 0.396 m3/kg VS of COD/SO4 50. In addition, compared to 0.0097 m3/kg VS of hydrogen sulfide yield from COD/SO4 50, the ratio of COD/SO4 20 increased sharply to 0.0223 m3/kg VS, and in particular, the highest result was 0.0855 m3/kg VS in COD/SO4 10. Based on these results, it is judged that the effect of sulfide in anaerobic digestion can have an adverse effect if the COD/SO4 ratio decreases to less than 20.
An experiment was conducted to establish the most suitable ventilation system for the enclosed nursery pig house in Korea, comparing four different ventilation systems ; i) air enters through perforated ceiling and exhausts through chimney (NA), ii) air enters through perforated ceiling and exhausts through side walls (NB), iii) air enters through perforated ducts and exhausts through side walls (NC) and iv) air enters through perforated ducts and exhausts through chimney(ND). The experiment was carried out during winter and summer separately. The experimental pigs were weaned at fourteen days old in winter (December-February) and at twenty one days old in summer (June-August). The main results of the experiment are as follows : A preliminary experiment showed that in the NC system during summer, air can reach all the pig rooms in the house and the air flow rates of the upper, middle (1.2 m height of the room) and low (at the height of pig stature) parts of the room were measured at 7.0-8.08, over 0.5 and over 0.2 m/s, respectively, which flow rates were much higher(p$<$0.05) than those in other system. At the minimum ventilation efficiency during winter, air flow rates of upper, middle and low parts of the room equipped with the NC system were detected at over 1, less than 0.5 and around 0.07 m/s, respectively. It is concluded that the separated ventilation system air-entering through ducts is the most suitable for the ventilation system of the enclosed nursery pig house and the exhausting system through side walls is more efficient for ventilation than the system through roof. Furthermore, to sustain proper temperature and reduce energy waste as well as heat consumption, a future research should be carried out to develop the environmental control system in relation to developing a heat regulator.
RMembrane LNG storage tanks have been recently investigated to replace full-containment LNG storage tanks because of safety and cost aspects. Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) and Finite Element Method (FEM) were used to evaluate safety of membrane LNG storage tanks. In this study, structural safety evaluation results via FEM analysis showed that both membrane type and full-containment type cryogenic LNG storage tanks with 140,000 $m^3$ capacity were equivalently safe in terms of strength safety and leakage safety of a storage tank system. Also, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) was used to improve the safety of membrane LNG storage tanks and membrane LNG tanks were modified by adding three safety equipments: impact absorber structure for the low part of the membrane, the secondary barrier to diminish the thermal stress of the corner part of the outer tank, and a pump catcher in case of falling of a pump. Consequently, the safety of the modified membrane LNG storage tanks were proved to be equivalent to that of full-containment LNG storage tanks.
This study was conducted to prevent hardened texture in retorted frozen seafoods such as small octopus, squid, and top shell by adding sorbitol; the strength of mechanical hardness and other qualities were measured. The hardness of the 3 kinds of seafood pretreated with 2-4% (w/w) sorbitol solution decreased by 9-36% compared to the control. The hardness of retorted frozen octopus, squid, and top shell treated with sorbitol solution upon freezing significantly decreased to 1670, 1015, and $521g_f/cm^2$ compared to levels in untreated food of 1841, 1291, and $815g_f/cm^2$ (p<0.05), respectively. Yields based on weight in retorted seafood treated with sorbitol were increased by 2-5% compared to untreated samples. Additionally, the overall preference of texture was 0.4 points higher than that of control samples in descriptive sensory evaluation (p<0.05). The tissue softening of pretreated seafood was based on decreased dewatering due to the formation of small ice crystals during freezing as a result of sorbitol treatment.
