QuickBird satellite is quickly becoming the best choice for high-resolution mapping using satellite images. In this paper, we will describe the followings: (1) how to correct QuickBird data using different geometric correction methods, (2) data fusion using QuickBird panchromatic and multispectral data, and (3) automatic DEM extraction using QuickBird stereo data.

This study is to apply QuickBird satellite image for the simulation of storm runoff in a small rural watershed. For a $1.05km^2$ watershed located in Goesan-Gun of Chungbuk Province, the land use from the QuickBird image was produced by on-screening digitising after ortho-rectifying using 2 m DEM. For 3 cases of land use, soil and elevation scale (1:5,000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000), SCS-CN and the watershed physical parameters were prepared for the storm runoff model, HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modelling System). The model was evaluated for each case and compared the simulated results with couple of selected storm events.

Recently according to supplying high resolution satellite imagery, we take much interest in the update and the revision of digital map and thematic map based on the satellite images. This study analyzed the modeling accuracy for QuickBird imagery and produced the digital map on a scale 1 to 5000 by way of showing an example. find an exhibition digital map was analyzed the positioning accuracy for the presentation of the possibility and the utility in the production and the revision to the digital map using QuickBird imagery. In order to analyze accuracies of constructed data, the digital topographic maps of 1:5000 scale which were produced by Korea National Geographic information Institute(NGI) were used. As a result, the RMSE was calculated at ${\pm}2.207$ m and 2.39 m in x and y direction respectively and it is within the permissible accuracy required for mapping on a scale of 1 to 5000 on the mapping rule notified by the National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the results of this study will be fully used in the field of large scale digital mapping and be utilized as basic information in applied field of the production and the revision of digital map.

Efficient extraction and update of imagery is a crucial element in establishing latest geospatial information in today's fast changing Information society. Provision of Quick Bird imagery, with 61cm resolution panchromatic imagery and 2.5m resolution multi-chromatic imagery is contributing greatly in the application field if high density geospatial information. This research have conducted digital plotting utilizing stereo images provided by QuickBird satellite and evaluated the accuracy through comparison and analysis with digital map results. It turned out that result has smaller error than standard deviation of scale of 1:5,000 set by the NGII. This proves that the production of digital map at scale of 1:5,000 is possible.

High-spatial resolution remote sensing satellites (IKONOS-2, QuickBird and KOMPSAT-2) have provided low-spatial resolution multispectral images and high-spatial resolution panchromatic images. Image fusion or Pan-sharpening is a very important in that it aims at using a satellite image with various applications such as visualization and feature extraction through combining images that have a different spectral and spatial resolution. Many image fusion algorithms are proposed, most methods could not preserve the spectral information of original multispectral image after image fusion. In order to solve this problem, modified induction technique which reduce the spectral distortion of fused image is developed. The spectral distortion is adjusted by the comparison between the spatially degraded pan-sharpened image and original multispectral image and our algorithm is evaluated by QuickBird satellite imagery. In the experiment, pan-sharpened image by various methods can reduce spectral distortion when our algorithm is applied to the fused images.
This study is to test the applicability of QuickBird image for non-point source pollution assessment. SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model was adopted and the model was calibrated for a stream watershed of 255.4 $km^2$ Landsat land use data. For model application with QuickBird image, a precise agricultural land use map of 1.16 $km^2$ area located in the upstream watershed was produced by field investigation. The model was run with the combination of land use and soil map scales (1:5,000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000). The results were compared and analyzed for the contribution of non-point source pollution by the land use scale and contents.
This study is to estimate the spatial distribution of soil loss using the land use data produced from QuickBird satellite imagery. For a small agricultural watershed (1.16 $km^2$) located in the upstream of Gyeongan-cheon watershed, a precise agricultural land use map were prepared using QuickBird satellite image of April 5 of 2003. RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) was adopted for soil loss estimation. The data (DEM, soil and land use) for the RUSLE were prepared for 5 m and 30 m spatial resolution. The results were compared with each other and the result of 30 m Landsat land use data.

This study was conducted to compare classification accuracy by tree species using QuickBird imagery for pixel- and segment-based classifications that have been mostly applied to classify land covers. A total of 398 points was used as training and reference data. Based on this points, the points were classified into fourteen land cover classes: four coniferous and seven deciduous tree species in forest classes, and three non-forested classes. In pixel-based classification, three images obtained by using raw spectral values, three tasseled indices, and three components from principal component analysis were produced. For the both classification processes, the maximum likelihood method was applied. In the pixel-based classification, it was resulted that the classification accuracy with raw spectral values was better than those by the other band combinations. As resulted that, the segment-based classification with a scale factor of 50% provided the most accurate classification (overall accuracy:76% and ${\hat{k}}$ value:0.74) compared to the other scale factors and pixel-based classification.
This study aims to evaluate performance of various image fusion methods based on the spectral responses of high-resolution optical satellite sensors such as KOMPSAT-2, QuickBird and WorldView-2. The image fusion methods used in this study are GIHS, GIHSA, GS1 and AIHS. A quality evaluation of each image fusion method was performed with both quantitative and visual analysis. The quantitative analysis was carried out using spectral angle mapper index (SAM), relative global dimensional error (spectral ERGAS) and image quality index (Q4). The results indicates that the GIHSA method is slightly better than other methods for KOMPSAT-2 images. On the other hand, the GS1 method is suitable for Quickbird and WorldView-2 images.
