This paper presents a heuristic approach to derive the Laplace-Stieltjes transform (LST) and the probability generating function (PGF) of the waiting time distributions of a continuous- and a discrete-time GI/G/1 queue, respectively. This is a new idea to derive the well-known results, the waiting time distribution of GI/G/1 queue, in a different way.

We consider a cyclid server system under N-policy. This system consists of multiple queues served in a cyclic order by a single server. In this paper, we consider the following control policy. Every time server polls one queue, the server inspects the state of the queue. If the total number of units is found to have reached or exceeded a pre-specified value, the server begins to serve the queue until it is empty. As soon as the queue becomes empty, the server polls next queue. An approximate analysis of this system is presented. Sever vacation model is used as an analytical tool. However, server vacation periods are considered to be dependent on the service times of respective queues. The results obtained from the approximate analysis are ompared with simulation results.

We study the paper Zhernovyi and Zhernovyi [Zhernovyi, K.Y. and Y.V. Zhernovyi, "An $M^{\Theta}/G/1/m$ system with two-threshold hysteresis strategy of service intensity switching," Journal of Communications and Electronics, Vol.12, No.2(2012), pp.127-140]. In the paper, authors used the Korolyuk potential method to obtain the stationary queue length distribution. Instead, our note makes an attempt to apply the most frequently used methods : the embedded Markov chain and the supplementary variable method. We derive the queue length distribution at a customer's departure epoch and then at an arbitrary epoch.

Recently, the advances on sensor technology increases the study on data processing oriented middleware. Usually, most of middleware uses the naive and delta method for queue management to process data effectively. But such a queue management method it is difficult to support guaranteeing of the requested quality of services because it simply discards the data in a queue when the overflow is occurred. To handle this problem, some methods for minimizing data volumes in a wireless sensor network have been studied, but most of them cause another problem that needs the huge processing time additionally with higher complexity of the proposed algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method of delta-average queue management by applying the mean value to the exiting delta queue management method using the data differences to handle the problem of queue overflow. The proposed method has lower complexity than the others and increases the QoS of a WSN application by using mean value instead of using data discarding policy. In addition, it is designed to manage a queue effectively by controlling the range of data differences adaptively to the target sensor network environment.
We consider an $M^x/G/1$ queueing system with a random setup time under Bernoulli vacation schedule, where the service of the first unit at the completion of each busy period or a vacation period is preceded by a random setup time, on completion of which service starts. However, after each service completion, the server may take a vacation with probability p or remain in the system to provide next service, if any, with probability (1-p). This generalizes both the $M^x/G/1$ queueing system with a random setup time as well as the Bernoulli vacation model. We carryout an extensive analysis for the queue size distributions at various epochs. Further, attempts have been made to unify the results of related batch arrival vacation models.
In order to reduce the increasing packet loss rates caused by an exponential increase in network traffic, the IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) is considering the deployment of active queue management techniques such as RED(Random Early Detection). While active queue management in routers and gateways can potentially reduce total packet loss rates in the Internet, this paper has demonstrated the inherent weakness of current techniques and shows that they are ineffective in preventing high loss rates. The inherent problem with these queue management algorithms is that they all use queue lengths as the indicator of the severity of congestion. In this paper, in order to solve this problem, a new active queue management algorithm called MRED(Modified Random Early Detection) is proposed. MRED computes the packet drop probability based on our heuristic method rather than the simple method used in RED. Using simulation, MRED is shown to perform better than existing queue management schemes. To analyze the performance, we also measure throughput of traffics under the FIFO control, and compared the performance with that of this MRED system.

In this study, an efficient algorithm is developed to compute steady state probabilities for the following M$_{x}$G/1 server vacation system under control-operating poligy: At the end of a busy period, the server takes a sequence of vacations, each for a random amount of time. At the end of each vacation, he inspects the length of the queue. If the queue length at this time is equal to or greater than a prespecified threshold value r, he begins to serve the queue until it is empty.y.

For a broad class of discrete-time FIFO queueing systems with D-MAP (discrete-time Markovian arrival process) arrivals, we present a distributional Little's law that relates the distribution of the stationary number of customers in system (queue) with that of the stationary number of slots a customer spends in system (queue). Taking the multi-server D-MAP/D/c queue for example, we illustrate how to utilize this relation to get the desired distribution of the number of customers.

In this paper, by using perturbation analysis method, We find the sensitivity of the mean busy cycle with respect to means interrival time in M/M/1 Queue. We show that the Perturbation analysis estimate can be expressed as a sum of the infinitesimal perturbation analysis (IPA) estimate and the effect caused by changes in transition probabilities, thus explaining why IPA estimates are not consistent in general.

We consider BMAP/G/1 queueing system with N-policy and multiple vacations. We derive the vector generating functions of the queue length in a factorized form and interpret the factorization. We also derive the mean queue length.
