  • The pattern query in graph database has advantages of easy query expression and high query processing performance compared to relational database SQL. However, unlike the relational database, the graph database may not utilize the advantages of pattern query depending on modeling because the methodology for building the logical data model is not defined. In this study, in the is-a node modeling method that appears during the graph modeling process, we experiment that there is a difference in performance between graph pattern query when designing with a generalization model and designing with a specialization model. As a result of the experiment, it was shown that better performance can be obtained when the is-a node is designed as a specialization model. In addition, when writing a pattern query, we show that if a variable is bound to a node or edge, performance may be better than that of the variable of not bounded. The experimental results can be presented as an is-a node modeling method for pattern query and a graph query writing method in the graph database.

  • In this letter, we present an event stream processing system that can evaluate a pattern query for a data sequence with predicates. We propose a pattern query language and develop a pattern query processing system. In our system, we propose novel techniques for run-time aggregation and negation processing and apply our system to stream data generated from vehicles to monitor unusual driving patterns.

  • XML message brokers have a lot of importance because XML has become a practical standard for data exchange in many applications. Message brokers covered in this document store many users. This paper is a study of the processing of twig pattern queries in XML documents using branching node streams in XML message broker structures. This work is about query processing in XML documents, especially for query processing with XML twig patterns in the XML message broker structure and proposed a method to reduce query processing time when parsing documents with XML twig patterns by processing information. In this paper, the twig pattern query processing method of documents using the branching node stream removes the twigging value of the branch node that does not include the labeling value of the branch node stream when it receives a twig query from the client. In this paper, the leaf node discovery time can be reduced by reducing the navigation time of nodes in XML documents that are matched to leaf nodes in twig queries for client twig queries. Overall, the overall processing time to respond to queries is reduced, allowing for rapid question-answer processing.

  • Pattern-based query processing has not attracted much attention in wireless sensor network though its counterpart has been studied extensively in data stream. The methods used for data stream usually consume large memory and much energy. This conflicts with the fact that wireless sensor networks are heavily constrained by their hardware resources. In this paper, we use piece wise representation to represent sensor nodes' collected data to save sensor nodes' memory and to reduce the energy consumption for query. After getting data stream's and patterns' approximated line segments, we record each line's slope. We do similar matching on slope sequences. We compute the dynamic time warping distance between slope sequences. If the distance is less than user defined threshold, we say that the subsequence is similar to the pattern. We do experiments on STM32W108 processor to evaluate our strategy's performance compared with naive method. The results show that our strategy's matching precision is less than that of naive method, but our method's energy consumption is much better than that of naive approach. The strategy proposed in this paper can be used in wireless sensor network to process pattern-based queries.

  • Recent researches about range queries in OLAP are only concerned with applying an aggregation operator over a certain region. However, data analysts in real world need not only the simple range query pattern but also an extended range query pattern that finds ranges which satisfy a special condition specified by using several aggregation operators. In this work, we define the general form of the extended range query and propose an efficient processing method for the 'MAX -of-SUM' query, which is the representative form of the extended range query pattern. The MAX-of-SUM query finds the range which has the maximum range sum value in data cube where the size of the range is given. The proposed query processing method is based on the prediction of the scope of the range sum values. That is, the search space on the query processing can be reduced by using the result of the prediction, and hence, the query response time is also reduced.

  • For the MD-TIX(multidimensional type inheritance index) that supports query processing for the type inheritance concept in XML databases, this paper presents an index tuning algorithm that enhances the performance of the XML query processing according to the query pattern. The MD-TIX uses a multidimensional index structure to support complex XML queries involving both nested elements and type inheritance hierarchies. In this index tuning algorithm, we first determine a shape of index page regions by using the query information about the user's query pattern, and then construct an optimal MD-TIX by applying a region splitting strategy that makes the shape of the page regions into the predetermined one. The performance evaluation results indicate that the proposed tuning algorithm builds an optimal MD-TIX by a given query pattern, and in the case of the three-dimensional query regions for the nested predicates of path length 2, the performance is much enhanced according to the skewed degree of the query region's shape.

  • In this paper, we introduce two retrieval methods for photos with speech documents. We compare the pattern of speech query with those of speech documents recorded in digital cameras, and measure the similarities, and retrieve photos corresponding to the speech documents which have high similarity scores. As the first approach, a phoneme recognition scheme is used as the pre-processor for the pattern matching, and in the second one, the vector quantization (VQ) and the dynamic time warping (DTW) are applied to match the speech query with the documents in signal domain itself. Experimental results show that the performance of the first approach is highly dependent on that of phoneme recognition while the processing time is short. The second method provides a great improvement of performance. While the processing time is longer than that of the first method due to DTW, but we can reduce it by taking approximated methods.

  • Pattern matching is increasingly being employed in various researches as health care service, RFID-based system, facility management, and surveillance. Geosensor filter correlates a data stream to match specific patterns in distribution environments. In this paper, we present a geosensor query language to represent efficiently declarative geosensor query. Geosensor operators are proposed to use for fast query processing in terms of spatial and temporal area in distribution environments. We also propose a geosensor filter to match new query predicates into incoming stream predicates. Our filter can reduce the volume of transmission data and save power consumption of sensors. It can be utilized the stream data mining system to process in real-time various data as location, time, and geosensor information in distribution environments.

  • At a time when large amounts of data are being poured out, there are many changes in software architecture or data storage patterns because of the nature of the data being written, rather more read-intensive than writing. Accordingly, in this paper, the query model of Command Query Responsibility Segmentation (CQRS) pattern separating the responsibilities of commands and queries is used to implement an efficient high-capacity data lookup system in users' requirements. This paper uses the 2018 temperature, humidity and precipitation data of the Korea Meteorological Administration Open API to store about 2.3 billion data suitable for RDBMS (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB). It also compares and analyzes the performance of systems with CQRS pattern applied from the perspective of the web server (Web Server) implemented and systems without CQRS pattern, the storage structure performance of each database, and the performance corresponding to the data processing characteristics.

  • When confronted with a query, question answering systems endeavor to extract the most exact answers possible by determining the answer type that fits with the key terms used in the query. However, the efficacy of such systems is limited by the fact that the terms used in a query may be in a syntactic form different to that of the same words in a document. In this paper, we present an efficient semantic query expansion methodology based on query patterns in a question category concept list comprised of terms that are semantically close to terms used in a query. The proposed system first constructs a concept list for each question type and then builds the concept list for each question category using a learning algorithm. The results of the present experiments suggest the promise of the proposed method.
