  • is a service providing the story synopses that match user's query. This paper analyzes the user log of which is the answers to the queries to find stories from database, and shows the tendency distribution of user creation. Specially, we analyze a joint distribution of the genres and actions of stories to get better understanding of the tendencies that cannot be found in the analysis of independent distribution. Furthermore, we define a correlation factor between genre and action, and investigate what combinations of the genres and actions are highly, less, and negatively correlated. Finally, we investigate how the tendencies of characters are related to genres and actions, and propose a visualization method to show the tendencies.

  • To come up with the recommendations to improve the patent & trademark retrieval efficiency, 100,016 patent & trademark search requests by 17,559 unique users over a period of 193 days were analyzed. By analyzing 2,202 multi-query sessions, where one user issuing two or more queries consecutively, we discovered a number of retrieval efficiency improvements clues. The session analysis result also led to suggestions for new system features to help users reformulating queries. The patent & trademark retrieval users were found to be similar to the typical web users in certain aspects especially in issuing short queries. However, we also found that the patent & trademark retrieval users used Boolean operators more than the typical web search users. By analyzing the multi-query sessions, we found that the users had five intentions in reformulating queries such as paraphrasing, specialization, generalization, alternation, and interruption, which were also used by the web search engine users.

  • is a service providing story synopsis that matches user's query. This paper analyzes the user log of and shows the tendency distribution of user creation in comparison to stories in database. We also investigate the log to see possible improvements on search method. This paper proposes a concept of Story Map, in which the query-answer information is projected into spatial coordinates, and a new story search UI based on it. Using the Story Map, users are able to see entire spatial distribution of story database so that they can quickly and intuitively find a story on the map.

  • We are developing searching algorithms for weighted strings such as protein sequences. Let${\sum}$ be an alphabet and for each $a{\in}{\sum}$ its weight ${\mu}(a)$ is given. Given a string $A=a_1a_2…a_n\; with each ai{\in}{\sum}$, a substring<$A(i.j)=a_ia_{i+1}…a_j$ has weight ${\in}(A(i.j))={\in}(a_i)+{\in}(a_i+1)+…+{\in}(a_j)$.The problem we are dealing with is to preprocess A to build a searching structure, and later, given a query weight M, the structure is used to answer the question of whether there is a substring A(i,j) such that$M={\in}(A(i,j))$.In this paper an algorithm that improves over the previous result will be presented. The previously best known algorithm answers a query in $0(\frac{nlog\;logn}{log\; n})$time using a searching structure that requires O(n) amount of memory. Our algorithm reduces the memory requirement to $0(\frac{n}{log\; n})$ while achieving the same query answer time.

  • This proposed system is a part of internal control system that national highway need to support their ITS information audit. This paper explains the design and implementation of a packet interceptor and a DB query analyzer. The packet interceptor sniffs users' query packets, and then the DB query analyzer parses the SQL queries and stores the users' DB access information such as SQL queries, access data and changing data. The information may be used as the evidences on internal control of users and users' accesses.

  • This study examines trends of web query types and topics submitted to NAVER during one year period by analyzing query logs and click logs. There was a seasonal difference in the distribution of query types. Query type distribution was also different between weekdays and weekends, and between different days of the week. The log data show seasonal changes in terms of the topics of queries. Search topics seem to change between weekdays and weekends, and between different days of the week. However, there was little change in overall patterns of search behavior across one year. The implications for system designers and web content providers are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is for designing a illegal query detection system using Winpcap library for unauthorized access by internal person. The illegal query detection can be possible detecting the data in out of access control or searching illegal data by plagiarizing other user ID. The system used in this paper collects packets and analyzes the data related to SQL phrase among them, and selects the user's basic information by comparing the dispatch of MAC address and user's hardware information constructed previously. If the extracted information and user's one are different, it is considered as an illegal query. It is expected that the results of this study can be applied to reducing the snaking off unprotected data, and also contributed to leaving the audit records using user's access log which can be applied to the pattern analysis.

  • In the Web, the data is generally gathered automatically by Web servers and collected in server or access logs. However, as users access larger and larger amounts of data, query response times to extract information inevitably get slower. A method to resolve this issue is the use of summary tables. In this short note, we design a prototype of summary tables that can efficiently extract information from Web log data. We also present the relative performance of the summary tables against a sampling technique and a method that uses raw data.
