Energy efficiency is one of the most critical issues in the design of wireless sensor networks. In object-tracking sensor networks, the data storage and query processing should be energy-conserving by decreasing the message complexity. In this paper, a Prediction-based Energy-conserving Approximate StoragE schema (P-EASE) is proposed, which can reduce the query error of EASE by changing its approximate area and adopting predicting model without increasing the cost. In addition, focusing on reducing the unnecessary querying messages, P-EASE enables an optimal query algorithm to taking into consideration to query the proper storage node, i.e., the nearer storage node of the centric storage node and local storage node. The theoretical analysis illuminates the correctness and efficiency of the P-EASE. Simulation experiments are conducted under semi-random walk and random waypoint mobility. Compared to EASE, P-EASE performs better at the query error, message complexity, total energy consumption and hotspot energy consumption. Results have shown that P-EASE is more energy-conserving and has higher location precision than EASE.

Performance of an algorithm can be mesaurde from serval aspects.Suppose thre is a query formulation al-gorithm.Even though this algorithm shows high retrival performance, ie, high recall and percision, retriveing items can rake a long time.In this study, we time complexity of automatic query reformulation algorithms, named the query Tree, DNF method, and Dillon's method, and comparethem in theoretical and practical aspects using a tral-time performance)the absolute times for each algorithm to fromulate a query)in a Sun SparcStation 2. In experiments using three test sets, CSCM, CISI, and Medlars, the query Tree algorithm was the fastest among the three algorithms tested.
Handling fuzzy query in voice search on smartphones is one of the most difficult problems. It is mainly derived from the complexity and the degree of freedom of natural language. To reduce the complexity and the degree of freedom of fuzzy query in voice search on smartphones, attribute-driven approach for fuzzy query is proposed. In addition, a new page ranking algorithm based on the values of attributes for handling fuzzy query is proposed. It provides a smartphone user with location-based personalized page ranking based on user's search intentions. It is a further step toward location-based personalized web search for smartphone users. In this paper, we design a prototype model for handling fuzzy query in voice search on smartphones and show the experimental results of the proposed approach compared to existing smartphones.

It has been studied to support data having multiple properties, called Skyline Query. The skyline query is not exploring data having all properties but only meaningful data, when we retrieve informations in large data base. The skyline query can be used to provide some information about various environments and situations in sensor network. However, the legacy skyline query has a problem that increases the number of comparisons as the number of sensors are increasing in multi-dimensional data. Also important values are often omitted. Therefore, we propose a new method to reduce the complexity of comparison where the large number of sensors are placed. To reduce the complexity, we transfer a CMF(Category Based Member Function) which can identify preference of specific data when interest query from sync-node is transferred to sub-node. To show the validity of our method, we analyzed the performance by simulations. As a result, it showed that the time complexity was reduced when we retrieved information in multiple sensing data and omitted values are detected by great dominance Skyline.
Traditional keyword-based searching methods suffer from low accuracy and high complexity due to the rapid growth in the amount of information. Accordingly, many researchers attempt to implement a so-called semantic search which is based on the semantics of the user's query. Semantic information can be described using a semantic modeling language, such as Topic Map. In this paper, we propose a new method to map a topic map to a traditional Relational Database (RDB) without any information loss. Although there have been a few attempts to map topic maps to RDB, they have paid scant attention to handling multi-role topics. In this paper, we propose a new storage structure to map multi-role topics to traditional RDB. The proposed structure consists of a mapping table, role tables, and content tables. Additionally, we devise a query translator to convert a user's query to one appropriate to the proposed structure.
In ubiquitous environments, many applications need to process data with time and space dimensions. Because of this, there is growing attention not only on gathering spatiotemporal data in ubiquitous environments, but also on processing such data in databases. In order to obtain the full benefits from spatiotemporal data, we need a data model that naturally expresses the properties of spatiotemporal data. In this paper, we introduce three spatiotemporal data models extended from temporal data models. The main goal of this paper is to determine which data model is less complex in the spatiotemporal context. To this end, we compare their query languages in the complexity aspect because the complexity of a query language is tightly coupled with its underlying data model. Throughout our investigations, we show that it is important to intertwine space and time dimensions and keep one-to-one correspondence between an object in the real world and a tuple in a database in order to naturally express queries in ubiquitous applications.

Recently, k-farthest neighbor (kFN) queries have not as much attention as k-nearest neighbor (kNN) queries. Therefore, this study considers moving k-farthest neighbor (MkFN) queries for spatial network databases. Given a positive integer k, a moving query point q, and a set of data points P, MkFN queries can constantly retrieve k data points that are farthest from the query point q. The challenge with processing MkFN queries in spatial networks is to avoid unnecessary or superfluous distance calculations between the query and associated data points. This study proposes a batch processing algorithm, called MOFA, to enable efficient processing of MkFN queries in spatial networks. MOFA aims to avoid dispensable distance computations based on the clustering of both query and data points. Moreover, a time complexity analysis is presented to clarify the effect of the clustering method on the query processing time. Extensive experiments using real-world roadmaps demonstrated the efficiency and scalability of the MOFA when compared with a conventional solution.

We propose a graphical object query language called OGPL (Odysseus Graphical Query Language) for Odysseus object databases. By employing simple graphical notations, OGQL provides a user friendly database interface for object databases. OGQL provides a simple graphical notation for advanced features of the object queries such as path expressions including cycles (cyclic queries). Cyclic queries have not been handled in the previous graphical query languages because of their complexity and ambiguity in devising appropriate graphical notations. GOQL also provides a graphical notation for inheritance hierarchy. Since OGQL has been implemented in Java and JDBC standard interface, users can access the remote databases in a web environment and the system has platform-independent architecture.

Query-by-Example(QBE) is high-level display-oriented databased manipulation language that provides a convenient and unified style for querying, updating, defining, and controling a relational database. QBE is relationally complete. However, lack of aubquery constructs limits th usability of QBE significantly. In particular, certain queries cannot be represented in one window. In this paper, we define a subquery box and extend QBE for subquery construction. The Extended QBE makes it possible to represent the queries that the QBE cannot do in one window, reducing the overhead and complexity of composing those queries. We also define the grammar of the Extended QBE and present the parsing techniques. Finally, we present an algorithm to transform the queries in Exteded QBE to those in SQL. The result of the transformation can be executed using dynamic SQL features of any SQL system. The proposed language has been implemented on OS/2 using the OS/2 EE Database Manager.

Now a days, Efficient processing of Broadcast Queries is of critical importance with the ever-increasing deployment and use of mobile technologies. BQs have certain unique characteristics that the traditional spatial query processing in centralized databases does not address. In novel query processing technique, by maintaining high scalability and accuracy, latency is reduced considerably in answering BQs. Novel approach is based on peer-to-peer sharing, which enables us to process queries without delay at a mobile host by using query results cached in its neighboring mobile peers. We design and evaluate cooperative caching techniques to efficiently support data access in ad hoc networks. We first propose two schemes: Cache Data, which caches the data, and Cache Path, which caches the data path. After analyzing the performance of those two schemes, we propose a hybrid approach (Hybrid Cache), which can further improve the performance by taking advantage of Cache Data and Cache Path while avoiding their weaknesses. Cache replacement policies are also studied to further improve the performance. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the query delay and message complexity when compared to other caching schemes.
