  • This paper deals with the analysis of high efficiency small antenna like superconductor antenna. The superconductor antenna is useful to low frequency range because surface resistance of superconductor increased with the rate of square of frequency. Thus, the used antenna increases in size. For such a reason, the role of the matching circuit is very important in small antenna. In this paper, low loss antenna included the optimal structure of matching circuit is analyzed by using quasi-static approximation. To verify the results of this paper, input impedance and radiation characteristics of this antenna have been evaluated.

  • In this paper, we propose two schemes to reduce the complexity of fixed-complexity sphere decoder (FSD) algorithm in the ordering and tree-search stages, respectively, while achieving quasi-ML performance. In the ordering stage, we propose a QR-decomposition-based FSD signal ordering based on the zero-forcing criterion (FSD-ZF-SQRD) that requires only a few number of additional complex flops compared to the unsorted QRD. Also, the proposed ordering algorithm is extended using the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion to achieve better performance. In the tree-search stage, we introduce a threshold-based complexity reduction approach for the FSD depending on the reliability of the signal with the largest noise amplification. Numerical results show that in 8 ${\times}$ 8 MIMO system, the proposed FSD-ZF-SQRD and FSD-MMSE-SQRD only require 19.5% and 26.3% of the computational efforts required by Hassibi's scheme, respectively. Moreover, a third threshold vector is outlined which can be used for high order modulation schemes. In 4 ${\times}$ 4 MIMO system using 16-QAM and 64-QAM, simulation results show that when the proposed threshold-based approach is employed, FSD requires only 62.86% and 53.67% of its full complexity, respectively.

  • Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) were developed as an enhanced alternative to conventional braces by restraining their global buckling, thus allowing development of a stable quasi-symmetric hysteretic response. A wider adoption of buckling restrained braced frames is precluded due to proprietary character of most BRBs and the code requirement for experimental qualification. To overcome these problems, BRBs with capacities corresponding to typical steel multi-storey buildings in Romania were developed and experimentally tested in view of prequalification. The first part of this paper presents the results of the experimental program which included sub-assemblage tests on ten full-scale BRBs and uniaxial tests on components materials (steel and concrete). Two different solutions of the core were investigated: milled from a plate and fabricated from a square steel profile. The strength of the buckling restraining mechanism was also investigated. The influence of gravity loading on the unsymmetrical deformations in the two plastic segments of the core was assessed, and the response of the bolted connections was evaluated. The cyclic response of BRBs was evaluated with respect to a set of performance parameters, and recommendations for design were given.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of Optimal humidification during Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (nCPAP) for Extremely Low Birth Weight Infant (ELBWI). Methods: The study design was a pre-test-post-test nonequivalent nonsynchronized quasi-experimental design. The participants were 218 ELBWI on nCPAP (experimental group: 102 and control group: 116). Data collection was conducted from January 2005 to April 2010. In order to measure and analyze the nCPAP duration, reintubation and nasal condition, Chi-square test and t-test were used. Results: Hypothesis 1, that the duration with nCPAP in the experimental group is longer than that of the control group and hypothesis 2-3, that the rate of reintubation and nasal problems in the experimental group are lower than the control group, were all supported as there were statistically significant differences between two groups. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the Optimal humidification in this study is an efficient intervention because it helps increase the last time of nCPAP with ELBWI and minimize complications. It is expected that Optimal humidification is beneficial and helpful in preventing and caring for respiratory problems in these infants.

  • We explore the similarity and difference of the quasi-periodic pulsations (QPPs) observed during the solar and stellar X-ray flares. For this, we identified 59 solar QPPs in the X-ray observed by the Reuven Ramaty High-Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) and 52 stellar QPPs from X-ray Multi Mirror Newton observatory (XMM-Newton). The Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method and least-square-fit with the damped sine function are applied to obtain the periods and damping times of the QPPs. We found that (1) the periods and damping times of the stellar QPPs are 7.80 and 13.80 min, which are comparable with those of the solar QPPs 0.55 and 0.97 min. (2) The ratio of the damping times to the periods observed in the stellar QPPs are found to be statistically identical to the solar QPPs, (3) The damping times are well describe by the power law. The power indices of the solar and stellar QPPs are $0.891{\pm}0.172$ and $0.953{\pm}0.198$, which are consistent with the previous results. Thus, we conclude that the underlying mechanism responsible for the stellar QPPs are the natural oscillations of the flaring or adjacent coronal loops as in the Sun.
