Research on Temperature Sensing Characteristics of Fiber Bragg Grating in Wide Temperature Range

  • This study investigates the temperature sensitivities of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) across a broad temperature spectrum ranging from -196 ℃ to 900 ℃. We developed the FBG temperature measurement system using a high-temperature tubular furnace and liquid nitrogen to supply consistent high and low temperatures, respectively. Our research showed that the FBG temperature sensitivity changed from 1.55 to 10.61 pm/℃ in the range from -196 ℃ to 25 ℃ when the FBG was packaged with a quartz capillary. In the 25-900 ℃ range, the sensitivity varied from 11.26 to 16.62 pm/℃. Contrary to traditional knowledge, the FBG temperature sensitivity was not constant. This inconsistency primarily stems from the nonlinear shifts in the thermo-optic coefficient and thermal expansion coefficient across this temperature spectrum. The theoretically predicted and experimentally determined temperature sensitivities of FBGs encased in quartz capillary were remarkably consistent. The greatest discrepancy, observed at 25 ℃, was approximately 1.3 pm/℃. Furthermore, it was observed that at 900 ℃, the FBG was rapidly thermally erased, exhibiting variable reflected intensity over time. This study focuses on the advancement of precise temperature measurement techniques in environments that experience wide temperature fluctuations, and has considerable potential application value.

Effects of cement dosage and steel fiber ratio on the mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete

  • In this study, the mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC) with a constant cement to silica fume ratio of 4 were investigated. In the experimental program, reactive powder concretes with steel fiber at different ratios were produced. Five productions using quartz sand with a maximum grain size of 0.6 mm were performed. A superplasticizer with a ratio of 3% of the cement was used for all productions. $40{\times}40{\times}160mm$ prismatic specimens were prepared and tested for flexural and compression. The specimens were exposed to two different curing conditions as autoclave and standard curing condition. Autoclave exposure was performed for 3 hours under a pressure of 2 MPa. It was observed that the compressive strength of concrete, along with the flexural strength exposed to autoclave was quite high compared to the strength of concretes subjected to standard curing. The results obtained indicated that the compressive strength, along with the flexural strength of autoclaved concrete increased as the amount of cement used increases. Approximately 15% increase in flexural strength was achieved with a 4% steel fiber addition. The maximum compressive strength that has been reached is over 210 MPa for reactive powder concrete for the same steel fiber ratio and with a cement content of $960kg/m^3$. The relationship between compressive strength and flexural strength of reactive powder concrete exposed to both curing conditions was also identified.

  • In this study, the characteristics of optical fibers for the application in photocatalytic system was investigated using the intentionally designed accessories for spectrometer and radiometer to resolve the problems associated with the conventional system such as cost and structural restrictions from artificial lamp usage, to broaden the application fields into underground, and to utilize solar light in the future. To do this two kinds of optical fibers, plastic optical fiber (POF) and quartz optical fiber (QOF) were compared in terms of characteristics related with light transmittance and absorption and reactivity in TCE degradation.

  • Layer-by-layer(LbL) 흡착에 의한 poly(ethylene-alt-m미? anhydride) (PEMAh)/poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) 자기조립 다층박막을 제조하였다. 자기조립 다층막을 이루는 PEMAh/P4VP 두 고분자 사이의 수소 결합과 정전기적 인력이 다층막을 이루는 원동력이라는 것이 푸리에 변환 적외선(FT-IR) 분광분석에 의해서 확인되었다. 다층막의 균일한 자기조립 과정은 PEMAh/P4VP 이중층막의 적층 수 증가에 따른 UV-vis 스펙트럼의 256 nm에서 나타나는 P4VP 특성 흡수 피크의 선형적 증가에 의해서 확인할 수 있었다. 다층막을 이루는 고분자 전해질 담지 용액의 조건 변화가 다층막 형성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 두 고분자 용액의 농도 및 PEMAh 담지용액의 pH를 변화시키면서 다층막을 제조하였다. 다층막의 두께, 흡착된 고분자 전해질 질량 및 표면 거칠기의 변화를 UV-vis 분광 분석, 수정진동자 미량저울(quartz crystal microbalance;QCM) 및 원자 힘 현미경(atomic force microscopy;AFM)을 이용하여 측정하였다.

동아광산 일대 투각섬석과 양기석의 산출상태 및 광물학적 특성 연구 (Mineralogical Characteristic and Occurrence of Tremolite and Actinolite in the Dong-A mine, Korea)

  • 동아광산에서 채취한 암석 시료의 X-선 회절분석 결과 주 구성광물은 백운석(Dolomite : $CaMg(Co_3)_2$, 투각섬석(Tremolite : $Ca_2Mg_5Si_{18}O_{22}(OH)_2$), 활석(Talc : $Mg_3Si_4O_{10}(OH)_2$), 방해석(Calcite : $CaCO_3$)이며, 소량의 석영(Quartz : $SiO_2$)을 포함하고 있다. 편광현미경 관찰 결과 종횡비는 일반적으로 정의하는 3 : 1의 수치보다 높은 값을 나타내며 신장방향에 대한 소광각은 $8.0-19.5^{\circ}$의 범위로 사소광을 나타낸다. 주사전자현미경 관찰 결과 석면의 장경은 $5{\mu}m$ 이상이고 최대 $250{\mu}m$ 정도이며 종횡비는 3 : 1 정도이다. 암석시료에서 나타나는 석면결정은 벽개면을 따라 성장하고 있으며 결정의 끝부분이 침상형태를 나타낸다. 에너지분산분광분석결과 투각섬석이 주 구성광물인 시료는 대체로 Fe의 함량이 높게 나타난다.

VARIOUS NIR SAMPLE PRESENTATIONS FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS SUCH AS INTACT FRUITS, SINGLE GRAINS, VEGETABLE JUICE, MILK AND THE OTHERS

  • Sample presentation, which means how to set samples to an NIR instrument, is very important in Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy. When sample presentation is not suitable for the samples that you use, very good spectra can not be obtained even if you use a sophisticated NIR instrument. In my presentation, various NIR sample presentations for agricultural products such as intact fruits, single grains, vegetable juice and the others will be explained. In case of peaches with thin peel, the fiber optics of Interactance can be used. However, the fiber optics are not suitable for oranges with relatively thick peel. In this case, transmittance method is useful. As for a small sample such as single grains, a specially designed cell is needed. The cell in transmittance mode has been developed and then applied to single kernels of rice and soybean. In this case we also used the fiber optics. As regards liquid type of sample, a cuvette cell made of quartz in transmittance mode is popular. However, it is time-consuming to wash and dry it. In order to compensate this disadvantage the sample presentation using normal test tubes as sample cells have been developed and applied to milk, rumen juice and urine of a milking cow. An individual test tube can be used for each sample if you use the calibration equation with sample cell compensation. The test tube cell has also been applied to spinach juice for determination of undesirable constituents. It is concluded that sample presentation is most important for NIR Spectroscopy.

CO Oxidation of Catalytic Filters Consisting of Ni Nanoparticles on Carbon Fiber

  • Catalytic filters consisting of Ni nanoparticle and carbon fiber with different oxidation states of Ni (either metallic or oxidic) were prepared using a chemical vapor deposition process and various post-annealing steps. CO oxidation reactivity of each sample was evaluated using a batch type quartz reactor with a gas mixture of CO (500 mtorr) and $O_2$ (3 torr) at $300^{\circ}C$. Metallic and oxidic Ni showed almost the same CO oxidation reactivity. Moreover, the CO oxidation reactivity of metallic sample remained unchanged in the subsequently performed second reaction experiment. We suggested that metallic Ni transformed into oxidic state at the initial stage of the exposure to the reactant gas mixture, and Ni-oxide was catalytically active species. In addition, we found that CO oxidation reactivity of Ni-oxide surface was enhanced by increase in the $H_2O$ impurity in the reactor.

여과-Plasma 공정을 이용한 Ralstonia Solanacearum 불활성화 (Inactivation of Ralstonia Solanacearum using Filtration-Plasma Process)

  • For the field application of dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor in nutrient solution culture, a filtration-DBD (dielectric barrier discharge) plasma reactor was investigated for the Ralstonia solanacearum which causes bacterial wilt in aquiculture. The filtration-DBD plasma reactor system of this study was consisted of filter, plasma reactor, reservoir. The DBD plasma reactor consisted of a quartz dielectric tube, discharge electrode (inner) and ground electrode (outer). The experimental results showed that the inactivation of R. solanacearum with filter media type in filter reactor ranked in the following order: anthracite > fiber ball > sand > ceramic ball > quartz ceramic. In filtration + plasma process, disinfection effect with the voltage was found to small. In disinfection time of 120 minutes, residual R. solanacearum concentration was 1.17 log (15 CFU/mL). When the continuous disinfection time was 120 minute, disinfection effect was thought to keep the four days. In sporadic operation mode of 30 minutes disinfection - 24 hours break, residual R. solanacearum concentration after five days was 0.3 log (2 CFU/mL). It is considered that most of R. solanacearum has been inactivated substantially.

대기중의 암모니아 및 암모늄염의 필터포집법에 관한 연구 (Study on the Filter Collection Methods of Ammonia and Ammonium Salts in the Atomosphere)

  • 대기중의 암모니아가스와 암모늄염의 필터포집법에 관하여 연구하였다. 표준가스 발생장치로 발생시킨 암모니아가스를 3% 붕산-25% 글리세린 혼합액이 스며든 유리섬유 필터에 포집하였다. pH조절법으로 발생시킨 암모니아가스와 대기중의 암모니아를 5회씩 포집하여 측정한 결과 포집효율은 각각 96.4${\pm}$ 2.15%와 97.4${\pm}$1.06%였다. 시판되는 유리섬유 필터 및 Polycarbonate 필터에 대하여 암모니아가스의 흡착 및 탈리현상을 검토한 결과 유리섬유 및 석영 섬유 필터에서는 암모니아가스의 흡착과 약간의 암모늄염이 탈리되었으나, Polycarbonate 필터는 대기중의 암모늄염을 포집하는데 적합한 것으로 판단되었다. 지름 47mm의 필터에 20l/min의 유량으로 60분동안 대기를 포집하여 인도페놀법에 의한 분광광도법으로 측정 할 경우, 측정가능한 암모니아가스의 최저농도는 0.83ppb (약 0.63$\mug$/$m^3$)이다. 이 방법은 종래의 용액포집법에 의한 분광광도 측정법에 비하여 감도가 20배나 높으므로 대기중의 암모니아 농도의 변화를 단시간(약 60분)내에 측정할 수 있다.

The Applications of Sol-Gel Derived Tin Oxide Thin Films

  • Transparent conducting $SnO_2$-based thin films have been coated on float substrates such as fused quartz, and ceramic fiber cloths such as the Nexel and E-glass cloth from tin alkoxides by the sol-gel technique. Also, thin films of alternating layers of $SnO_2$ and $SiO_2$ have been fabricated by dip coating. The sheet resistance and average visible transmittance of the films were investigated in the aspect of the applications as transparent electrodes such as liquid crystal displays, photo-detectors and solar cells. The Nextel and E-glass cloths coated with antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) had sheet resistance of as low as $20 \;ohm/{\Box}$ and $120ohm/\;{\Box}$, respectively. The promotion effects of additives as $La_2O_3$ and Pt on the ethanol gas sensing properties of the films were investigated in the aspects of the applications as an alcohol sensor and a breath alcohol checker. Possible evidence of quantum well effects in the oxide multilayers of $SnO_2$ and $SiO_2$ was investigated.
