The purpose of this study is to classify research methods used in Korean language education studies with a focus on identifying how and what quantitative research methods are utilized in these studies. Analyzing articles published in the Journal of Korean Language Education from 2005 to 2016, we found a trend that as a replacement for secondary research, primary research played a more prominent role after 2010, as the number of quantitative studies and studies using mixed methods increased. We also found that within quantitative studies of Korean language education, research themes and statistical analyses became diversified after 2010. In order for quantitative research to contribute continuously to Korean language education, the quality of research has to improve. In particular, quantitative researchers in this area should: (a) increase their general understanding of statistical methods, (b) conduct "power analysis" to determine the appropriate sample size for hypothesis testing, and (c) be aware of measurement issues such as measurement equivalence and DIF when measuring latent psychological constructs. It is also important to notice that these points above should be considered carefully in the planning and designing stage for researchers.

Qualitative research is a method widely used in marketing research. However, the method has seldom been used in fashion marketing research in Korea. The purpose of this study was to prove that using both qualitative and quantitative research methods in main stage is much useful than using qualitative research method only in exploratory stage. Qualitative data were gathered by conducting Focus Group Interview(FGI) with 48 college students. Quantitative data were gathered by surveying college students, and 487 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. The data were analyzed using content analysis, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. As a result, FGI, one of the tools used in qualitative research methods, was proved to be useful in revealing consumers´deep emotional needs as well as purchase motives. FGI also revealed information which quantitative research method tools such as survey could have missed. Therefore, it is best to use multiple methods-simultaneous use of quantitative and qualitative methods-to understand fast changing consumers´needs and purchase motives.

The positron emission tomography (PET) has been used for the evaluation of the characteristics of various tumors. The role of PET in oncology has been evolved from a pure research tool to a methodology of enormous clinical potential. The unique characteristics of PET imaging make sophisticated quantitation possible. Several quantitative methods, such as standardized uptake values (SUV), simplified quantitative method, Patlak graphical analysis, and Sokoloff's glucose metabolism measurement, have been used in the field of oncology. However, each quantitative method has limitations of its own. For example, the SUV has been used as a quantitative index of glucose metabolism for tumor classification and monitoring response to treatment, even though it depends on blood glucose level, body configuration of patient, and scanning time. The quantitative methods of PET are reviewed and strategy for implementing these methods are presented.

From the view of natural language process, quantitative linguistic analysis is a linguistic study relying on statistical methods, and is a mathematical linguistics in an attempt to discover various linguistic characters by interpreting linguistic facts quantitatively through statistical methods. In this study, I would like to introduce a quantitative linguistic analysis method utilizing a computer and statistical methods on literary works. I also try to introduce a use of SynKDP, a synthesized Korean data process, and show the relations between distribution of linguistic unit elements which are used by the hero in a novel #Sassinamjunggi# and theme analysis on literary works.

The various risk assessment methodologies have been introduced in the railway industries. The risk assessment suggested by CENELEC are described with two ways; quantitative and qualitative methods. However, in the industry application level, the quantitative method is hard to apply for a project because of somehow complicated or few statistical figures which was driven from the on-site and the qualitative method is too subject to have the confidence of its results fully. In this paper, the state-of-the-art methods which were suggested in Europe recently are introduced and compared to existing quantitative and qualitative methods. Furthermore, the application measures of railway projects are investigated.

Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among items in a given large database. Association rules are frequently used by retail stores to assist in marketing, advertising, floor placement, and inventory control. Many data is most quantitative data. There is a need for partitioning techniques to quantitative data. The partitioning process is referred to as binning. We introduce several binning methods ; parameter mean binning, equi-width binning, equi-depth binning, clustering-based binning. So we apply these binning methods to several distribution types of quantitative data and present the best binning method for association rule discovery.

For Barrier-Free certification, the floor and ground surfaces must be finished with materials that are not slippery, flat, and have low-impact in fallis. However, the BF Certification Act does not provide specific methods to meet these regulations. In performance-based design, the responsibility of proving the performance rests with the building owner and architect, so quantitative evaluation indexes are needed to select suitable materials. Furthermore, changes in performance after completion should be checked periodically in 'As-Is' conditions. There are various methods for slips, trips and falls risk assessment, causing confusion for users. In this study, the results of previous studies on the evaluation methods of slips, trips and falls were considered closely, and each quantitative evaluation index that can be used in the new construction and maintenance phase was presented.

In theory, mixed methods that incorporate both quantitative and qualitative approaches can maximize strengths of each method while minimize the short comings of each. Mixed methods research is a feature of educational research nowadays, and the number of studies applied mixed methods research has been gradually increasing. This study investigates how mixed methods research was applied in the field of mathematic education, especially focusing on how qualitative and quantitative methods are combined to best address their research questions. With this in mind, this study carefully selects and analyzes 4 research articles that used mixed methods and were published by Journal of Elementary Mathematics Education in Korea in 2015. This study provides detailed result of qualitative analysis on mixed methods research while other a few previous analysis on mixed methods research were tend to focusing on quantitative analysis, producing numeric quantitative information. The result of this study provides practical and in-depth analysis on how to improve validity and possibility of mixed methods research, addressing alternative ways to combine two different research methods and key elements to take into account.

This study aims at introducing 'ethnography' which is one of the most representative qualitative research methods into Library and Information Science research in Korea.. Ethnography, derived from anthropology, helps researchers to understand the whole and deep aspect of the research object. That is because the researcher puts himself into the life-world of the research object and observes it for a long time. Ethnography can be used as an alternative method to quantitative research methods. Until now, Library and Information Science research in Korea has used quantitative research methods in almost every case. From the 1980s so-called 'scientific methods' using hypotheses testing, have provided the major premise for research methodology in Library and Information Science of Korea. And the researchers have seen their research object(Korean Libraries) not in the native perspective but largely in the western(especially American) perspective. There is a need in Korea for more culturally relative research. So the desirability of introducing ethnography and other qualitative research methods into Library and Information Science research in Korea can be summarized as follows : I. Ethnography and other qualitative methods are needed for the researchers to overcome the limitation of quantitative methods which have formed the main methodological paradigm in Library and Information Science research in Korea. While those quantitative scientific methods can be a n.0, pplied to the social sciences, they are not adequate for the social sciences. It is because the research objects of the social sciences are human and social phenomena. II. It is needed that Library and Information Science research in Korea pay more attention to the speciality of Korean libraries. To do researches based on the viewpoint of cultural-relativism, researchers should consider the cultural context of Korean libraries. During the past years researchers in other social science fields in Korea, especially sociology and pedagogy, have gradually a n.0, pplied the methods of ethnography to their fields. These social scientists have attempted to escape from ethnocentrism, a problem which has greatly influenced past and present research methods. To get a holistic and in-depth understanding of Korean libraries on the present stage, and to solve their problems radically, it seems imperative that Library and Information Science research in Korea pay more attention to qualitative research methods such as ethnography.

In this paper, we present new methods for identifying keywords for foresight topics that utilize the internet and textmining techniques to draw objective and quantified information that support experts' qualitative opinions and evaluations in foresight. Furthermore, by applying this fabricated procedure, we have derived keywords to analyze priorities in architectural engineering. Not much difference between qualitative methods of experts and quantitative methods such as text mining has been observed from comparison between technologies derived via qualitative method from "The Science Technology Vision" (control group). Therefore, as a quantitative tool useful for drawing keywords for foresight, textmining can supplement quantitative analysis by experts. In addition, depending on the level and type of raw data, text mining can bring better results in deriving foresight keywords. For this reason, research activities accommodating Internet search results and the development of textmining methods for analyzing current trends are in demand.
