As the convergence among technologies is reorganizing industry sectors, it is quite important to evaluate the probability of technological convergence, and to analyze how the technologies in a certain industry sector affect the same or other industry sectors. As a result, the large number of studies have been focused on the industry convergence. However, most of them have dealt mainly with case studies or strategy and policies and few efforts have been made to study it using quantitative data. The investigation of industry convergence using quantitative data will help understand the characteristics of industry and forecast the future of the industry from an objective point of view. Therefore, this research proposes a methodology to evaluate the possibilities of industry convergence using patent data. In particular, we emphasize the possibilities of technology convergence and suggest a technology relationship matrix to evaluate the technology convergence, as an antecedent of industry convergence. The feasibility and utility of the suggested methodology was verified with a case study on the convergence of IT and BT. The research results are expected to provide a useful guideline for developing a measure of convergence.

Recently, online job websites have been activated as unemployment problems have emerged as social problems and demand for job openings has increased. However, while the online job platform market is growing, users have difficulty choosing their jobs. When users apply for a job on online job websites, they check various information such as job contents and recruitment conditions to understand the details of the job. When users choose a job, they focus on various details related to the job rather than simply viewing and supporting the job title. However, existing online job websites usually recommend jobs using only quantitative preference information such as ratings. However, if recommendation services are provided using only quantitative information, the recommendation performance is constantly deteriorating. Therefore, job recommendation services should provide personalized services using various information about the job. This study proposes a recommended methodology that improves recommendation performance by elaborating on qualitative preference information, such as details about the job. To this end, this study performs a topic modeling analysis on the job content of the user profile. Also, we apply LDA techniques to explore topics from job content and extract qualitative preferences. Experiments show that the proposed recommendation methodology has better recommendation performance compared to the traditional recommendation methodology.

Generally, there is confusion as to what constitutes TQM, though it can be regarded as a set of concepts and tools for getting all employees focused on continuous improvement, various schools of thought have defined or classified the critical success factors as constructs, concepts and principles. Therefore the main aim of this paper is to provide a practical approach for understanding the quality management terminology. Using the existing quality management measurement instruments available in literature, the terminology used is classified into constructs, practices and finally tools or techniques. Quality Management may then be viewed as a combination of the three sets of terminology. Drawing on the quantitative study which investigated the implementation of TQM within the SME, the critical factors of TQM as used in that study as used to demonstrate the practical approach or methodology for the understanding of the terms thus used. For the benefit of practitioners within the Construction Management field, a bit of clarity is required as regards the terminology used. This study contributes to clarifying the conflicting results being reported in the quality management literature which inevitably leads to having different levels of analysis of Quality Management. Accordingly, the strength of quality management compared with other business philosophies should then focus on the practical methodology, namely the practices and techniques.

Database integration has been recognized as a critical issue for effective logistics service in logistics environment. However, research related to effective methodology for this have been little studied, and also, prominent achievements have yet to be suggested. The aim of this paper is to present a quantitative methodology for the identification of conflict that is a representative problem on database integration. To achieve this aim, we suggested a quantitative methodology that can efficiently fine troubles such as name conflicts when schema integration, based on the level of semantic similarity between attributes and entities. And, in order to measure these semantic similarities, we used a thesaurus dictionary that proposed previous research. Finally, we presented effectiveness of the proposed methodology through some typical examples.

Owing to the characteristics of the construction industry, large number of risk factors exist in construction projects compared to other industries. In the year 2007, due to industrial disaster, there was a loss of about 70 million number of working days and about 3 trillion won of the economic direct loss Economic loss is estimated up to 16trillion won including the indirect loss. Hence, a countermeasure is required to reduce the loss. However, the existing safety management is inefficient because it is based on experiential safety knowledge in the form of safety index, regulations. The purpose of this research is to improve this problem by proposing a quantitative risk assessment methodology. First, the limitation of existing hazard index is analyzed and subsequently variables for assessing degree of risk is established. Finally, these variables are then combined and a quantitative risk assessment methodology is proposed.

The various risk assessment methodologies have been introduced in the railway industries. The risk assessment suggested by CENELEC are described with two ways; quantitative and qualitative methods. However, in the industry application level, the quantitative method is hard to apply for a project because of somehow complicated or few statistical figures which was driven from the on-site and the qualitative method is too subject to have the confidence of its results fully. In this paper, the state-of-the-art methods which were suggested in Europe recently are introduced and compared to existing quantitative and qualitative methods. Furthermore, the application measures of railway projects are investigated.

The main focus of this paper is to apply contemporary aesthetics and psychological study with interior design analysis. Up to now, the methodology of interior design analysis has been developed toward a more qualitative way. By the virtue of the perception , congnition , and information theory, which oriented toward a quantitative approach, it became possible to investigate interior space analysis to a more objective and scientific ways. The purpose of this study is to investigate Modern and Post-Modern interior - architectural style with quantitative analytical method. The subjective interior critique studied by intuitive research will be transferred to scientific way by using quantitative formula . Savoye Villa and Guardiola House were selected as study model, because each architectural works ware regarded as masterpieces of Modern and Post-Modern style. These two oppositional style model will be distinguished with mathematical quantity by calculating Iave , Hmax, and Redundancy formula.

AHP is a competent methodology for multicriteria decision-making such as selection of technology in research laboratory, which requires the consideration of both quantitative and qualitative factors. This paper considers prioritization of technology alternatives using value functions for evaluating quantitative factors in AHP. Value functions are useful for the reducing questionars in this paper.

This paper describes empirical approach methodology for the quantitative risk assessment of maritime transportation accident (MTA) of a merchant ship. The principal aim of this project is to estimate the risk of MTA that could degrade the ship safety by analyzing the underlying factors contributing to MTA based on the IMO's Formal Safety Assessment techniques and, by assessing the probabilistic risk level of MTA based on the quantitative risk assessment methodology. The probabilistic risk level of MTA to Risk Index (RI) composed with Probability Index (PI) and Severity Index (SI) can be estimated from proposed Maritime Transportation Accident Model (MTAM) based on Bayesian Network with Bayesian theorem Then the applicability of the proposed MTAM can be evaluated using the scenario group with 355 core damaged accident history. As evaluation results, the correction rate of estimated PI, $r_{Acc}$ is shown as 82.8%, the over ranged rate of PI variable sensitivity with $S_p{\gg}1.0$ and $S_p{\ll}1.0$ is shown within 10%, the averaged error of estimated SI, $\bar{d_{SI}}$ is shown as 0.0195 and, the correction rate of estimated RI, $r_{Acc}$(%), is shown as 91.8%. These results clearly shown that the proposed accident model and methodology can be use in the practical maritime transportation field.
