Cross-Cultural Management in China

  • Purpose - This paper discusses cross-cultural management (CCM) in China and how its business students get prepared by university cross-cultural management courses for an international market. Research design, data, and methodology - It was therefore decided to do an online content analysis looking at CCM courses offered by a number of Chinese universities first, and second to conduct a quantitative survey on CCM courses as well as topics among Chinese undergraduate business students at a large Eastern Chinese university. Results - From fundamental aspects, seven Chinese cultural standards emerge which highly influence the behaviour of the Chinese. There is a tendency to imply the integration of not only local but also cross cultural issues in academic management courses. Besides Hong Kong, there are currently 17 Chinese universities and schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) that explicitly requires cross-cultural management competencies in undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. In addition, the study confirmed that two-third of the sample (Chinese undergraduate business students) had taken cross-cultural management courses. Conclusions - The results of this research have made it clear that Chinese universities and schools are aware of the importance of cross-cultural management competencies.

  • Plant safety management that is enforcing introducing more than 95% in domestic manufacturing industry is using total plant efficiency by the evaluation index, and as a result, can see a lot of examples that plant productivity, economy and safety is increased. The efficient safety estimation for a business should analyze an accident data by considering every possible and potential factor. This study's purpose centers plant safety management activities that is management system for plant production and safety efficiency's maximization, plant evaluation system that plant safety management activities factor(reliability, maitainability, safety, service quality) that is enforcing in manufacturing industry can develop evaluation model that can evaluate qualitative activities by quantitative activities in process that maximize plant safety management wishes to do design.

  • The construction environment is dynamic in nature and is characterized by various degrees of uncertainties. The uncertainties such as lack of coordination, non availability of resources, condition of temporary structures and varying weather conditions have a significant impact on estimating the duration of activities. These are subjective, vague and imprecisely defined and are expressed in subjective measures rather than mathematical terms. Conventionally, various quantitative techniques such as CPM and PERT have emerged in construction industry. These techniques cannot solve the above problems and rely on human experts which may not always be possible. In such situations Artificial Intelligence tools such as fuzzy sets and neural networks handle such variables and provide global strategies. The present paper evaluates the effect of qualitative factors to identify the activity duration using new intelligent approach. The results are compared with conventional methods for effective project management. A case study is considered to demonstrate the applicability of fuzzy logic for project scheduling.

Factors Affecting Public Prejudice and Social Distance on Mental Illness: Analysis of Contextual Effect by Multi-level Analysis

  • Objectives: While there have been many quantitative studies on the public's attitude towards mental illnesses, it is hard to find quantitative study which focused on the contextual effect on the public's attitude. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that affect the public's beliefs and attitudes including contextual effects. Methods: We analyzed survey on the public's beliefs and attitudes towards mental illness in Korea with multi-level analysis. We analyzed the public's beliefs and attitudes in terms of prejudice as an intermediate outcome and social distance as a final outcome. Then, we focused on the associations of factors, which were individual and regional socioeconomic factors, familiarity, and knowledge based on the comparison of the intermediate and final outcomes. Results: Prejudice was not explained by regional variables but was only correlated with individual factors. Prejudice increased with age and decreased by high education level. However, social distance controlling for prejudice increased in females, in people with a high education level, and in regions with a high education level and a high proportion of the old. Therefore, social distance without controlling for prejudice increased in females, in the elderly, in highly educated people, and in regions with a high education and aged community. Conclusions: The result of the multi-level analysis for the regional variables suggests that social distance for mental illness are not only determined by individual factors but also influenced by the surroundings so that it could be tackled sufficiently with appropriate considering of the relevant regional context with individual characteristics.

  • 컴퓨터 프로그램 분쟁 조정 해결 방법중 하나인 유사도 분석 방법은 많은 연구되어왔다. 본 논문은 MIB (Management Information Base) 파일의 정량적 유사도 분석에 관한 내용이다. 정량적 유사도란 두 컴퓨터의 소스코드 등을 분석하여 일정한 기준을 적용하여 비교한 결과를 수치로 나타낸 것을 의미한다. 분석대상 프로그램은 WiMAX CPE 장치에 대해서 SNMP 프로토콜을 사용하여 구성관리, 장애관리, 성능 관리 등 네트워크 장치 관리 기능을 제공하는 프로그램이다. 여기서, WiMAX는 IEEE 802.16 무선 네트워크 표준 프로토콜을 말하며 고정형 WiMAX와 모바일 WiMAX로 구분될 수 있다. WiMAX CPE는 고객 집 또는 사무실 등 실내에 고정하여 사용하는 무선인터넷 단말기이다. 본 논문에서는 A사와 B사의 MIB 파일에 대한 유사도 분석을 수행하고, 피해회사에서 유출된 MIB 파일이 단순한 제품사양을 설명하기 위한 리스트가 아니고 그 재산적 가치가 인정될 수 있는 자료인지 여부에 대하여 분석해 보기로 한다.

엑셀을 활용한 경영과학 강의방식의 효과에 관한 연구 (Effectiveness of Excel-based Teaching Method for Management Science)

  • New method has been widely used for teaching Management Science since the mid of 1990s. The new teaching method is distinguished from traditional method in several aspects. The mowt distintion of the new method is that Excel based approach is used in order to model and analyze quantitative problems. Due to the introduction of Excel based teaching method model formulation and interpretation is more emphasized than algorithms. By using this new method students are expected to be more interested in Management Science class and easily use several Management Science techniques in real world problems. Though Excel based teaching method has become more prevalent, there exist no empirical research to analyze the effectiveness of Excel based teaching method. This paper will empirically analyze how effective Excel based teaching method is. For this purpose survey data are collected fro professors teaching Management Science and analyzed by using t-test.

작은도서관 평가체계 및 지표 개선방안 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Small Library Evaluation System and Indicators)

  • 이 연구에서는 작은도서관의 활성화 및 내실화 측면에서의 평가를 통해 작은도서관 운영의 질적 수준을 향상하고 자생력을 강화하기 위하여 현행 작은도서관 평가지표 분석, 국내외 작은도서관 관련 평가지표 분석, 국내 타 관종 평가지표 분석, 작은도서관 운영자 및 관련 단체 전문가 등을 대상으로 의견수렴 등을 통해 작은도서관 평가체계 및 지표를 개선하여 제안하였다. 이 연구에서 제안된 작은도서관의 평가체계는 단위 작은도서관을 대상으로 하는 트랙 1과 기초지방자치단체 평가하는 트랙 2로 구분된다. 작은도서관의 평가지표는 트랙 1 작은도서관에 대하여 통계를 통해 확인되는 지표는 생략하고 단순화하였으며, 작은도서관 운영에 따른 도서관 경영, 도서관 인프라, 도서관 서비스의 3개 평가영역, 8개 평가항목, 10개 평가지표 100점으로 구성된 정량평가와 20점 총 120점으로 된 정성평가로 구성하였다. 트랙 2 기초지방자치단체의 평가지표는 정성평가 없이 작은도서관 정책 수립 및 시행과 작은도서관 지원 등에 관하여 도서관 경영, 도서관 인프라의 2개 평가영역, 4개 평가항목, 5개 평가지표 100점으로 구성된 정량평가로 구성되어 있다.

Exploring the Causal Relationships in the Criteria for Excellence Performance of China

  • Since the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China published the GB/T19580-2004: Criteria for Excellence Performance of China, many enterprises in China have adopted the Criteria to enhance their organization business management and to assess or self-assess organization performance. On the bases of both the Criteria for Excellence Performance of China and the survey data from China Association for Quality (CAQ), this paper systematically explores the relationships among 'leadership', 'strategy planning', 'customer and market', 'information, analysis and improvement', 'resources management', 'process management', and 'performance results' by using structural equations modeling and validates some of the anecdotal beliefs in quality management. This quantitative analysis provides a guideline for organizations in China to identify causal linkage among core value of total quality management and to identify strengths, deficiency, and opportunities to enhance competitive advantages and ensure the future business success.

신뢰성 경영시스템 IEC 60300의 인증 및 평가 방안 (Certification and Assessment Plan of Dependability Management System IEC 60300)

  • IEC 60300 series, the international standards on reliability management system are newly developed and introduced rapidly worldwide. In order to meet this fast-changing situation, it is necessary to apply them to the Korean industries effectively. It includes the establishment of the infrastructure such as documentation of Korean Standards, introduction of test equipments and test manuals, accreditation of the certification bodies and training of the specialists etc. IEC 60300 is upgraded management system of the ISO 9000 and ISO 14000. In this regard, the Korean companies which were certified with the ISO 9000 or 14000 should endeavor to find new strategies and methods to be certified with IEC 60300. This paper introduces a Quantitative method of estimating the level of the reliability management system by applying the MIR(Maturity Index on Reliability) technique. This enables the estimation of the operation level of the system and can upgrade the maturity level of it.
