The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the capital structure of firms operating in a developing economy, Pakistan. The quantile regression method is applied on a sample of 183 non-financial companies listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange during the period of 2008-2017. Specifically, the empirical analysis focuses on changes in the coefficients of the determinants according to the leverage ratio quantiles of the examined listed firms. The findings show that the capital structure of Pakistan listed firms differs between firms in different quantiles of leverage. These differences are significant with the sign of explanatory variables changes with the level of leverage. The research result found tangibility, profitability and age to be positively related to leverage among listed firms in Pakistan. However, size, liquidity and non-debt tax shield (NDTS) are negatively related to leverage. A firm's growth and risk are found to be insignificant predictors of capital structure in Pakistan listed firms. Moreover, the study also found a significant impact of industry characteristic on leverage. The findings of this study indicate that an individual firm's finance policy needs to be responsive to the firm's characteristics and should match with the different borrowing requirements of listed firms.

This study explores the long?term trends of extreme temperatures of 270 observation stations in East Asia (China, Japan, and Korea) for 1961?2013. The 5th percentile of daily minimum temperatures (TN05%) and 95th percentile of daily maximum temperatures (TX95%), derived from the quantile regression, are particularly examined in term of their linear and nonlinear trends. The warming trends of TN05% are typically stronger than those of TX95% with more significant trends in winter than in summer for most stations. In both seasons, warming trends of TN05% tend to amplify with latitudes. The nonlinear trends, quantified by the $2^{nd}$?order polynomial fitting, exhibit different structures with seasons. While summer TN05% and TX95% were accelerated in time, winter TN05% underwent weakening of warming since the 2000s. These results suggest that extreme temperature trends in East Asia are not homogeneous in time and space.
Identification of factors influencing regional population is critical for establishing government's population policies as well as for improving residents' social, economic and cultural well-being in the region. In this study we analysed the data from 2019 Population Housing Survey in Korea to identify the factors affecting the population size in each of the three regions: Seoul, metropolitan cities, and provincial regions. We applied a Bayesian quantile regression to account for asymmetry and heteroscedasticity of data. The analysis results showed that the effects of factors vary greatly between the three regions of Seoul, metropolitan cities, and provincial regions as well as between sub regions within the same region. These results suggest that population-related variables have very heterogeneous characteristics from region to region and therefore it is important to establish customized population policies that suit regional characteristics rather than uniform population policies that apply to every region.
The purpose of this study drew the core elements of ISO26000 by analyzing the elements suitable to the characteristics of casino companies, and examined the influence of the core elements of ISO26000 on organizational trust following the level of organizational trust of employees. As a result of the factor analysis, among the 7 measurement items of ISO26000, improvement of governance and fair operating practices were simplified into one factor and thus 6 factors were used for empirical analysis. Therefore, multiple regression analysis using least square method was conducted to examine the impacts of the 6 elements. As a result, 5 variables excluding human rights had significant impacts on the organizational trust. Concretely, the 5 core elements of ISO26000 (labor practices, governance and fair operation, consumer issues, environment and community social and economic development) had significant impact on organization trust in order. In addition, the results of quantile regression analysis show the core elements of ISO26000 had different impacts on organizational trust depending on the level of organizational trust of employees.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Simulation as a Problem-Based Learning (S-PBL) on critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and learning attitude and to compare an ordinary least square and a quantile regression method in impacting factors on critical thinking disposition. 143 students from six classes were randomly selected from a total of ten fundamental classes were assigned 66 in the control group and 77 in the experimental group. The results were that the experimental group received S-PBL and improved their critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy compared to the traditional learning method. In ordinary least square, affecting factors on critical thinking were the learning method and self-efficacy and these variables explained 41.0% in the critical thinking disposition. The results of the quantile regression method showed that affecting factors of critical thinking disposition were learning attitude of 0.1 quantile to 0.7 quantile and self-efficacy of all quantiles, and learning attitude of 0.4, 0.6, and 0.7 quantiles. Conclusion: The S-PBL is an effective method for nursing students who have low critical thinking disposition score to increase critical thinking disposition. And instructors can actively use S-PBL to enhance critical thinking disposition as well as self-efficacy in class.
The arena of strategic competition between the US and China is expandable from international politics, trade and commerce to finance. What would happen if financial sanctions against China are imposed by the US? Would US financial sanctions lead to a sudden outflow of foreign capital and a liquidity crisis in China? We try to address these questions by estimating China's capital flows-at-risk with the CDS premium on Chinese sovereign funds. We follow Gelos et al. (2019) in setting up a quantile regression model from which China's foreign capital flow-at-risks are estimated. Based on our analysis of China's monthly capital flow data, we find that a rise in the CDS premium has statistically significant negative impacts on China's foreign capital flows-at-risk, mainly in banking flows. However, the analysis also found that due to favorable global conditions, an increase in the CDS premium is unlikely to trigger a shift to a sudden outflow of foreign capital at the moment. Meanwhile, this study found no statistically significant correlation between Korea's capital flows-at-risk and the CDS premium, suggesting that the negative impact of US financial sanctions on China would not increase the probability of capital flight from Korea in a significant manner.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors related to the levels of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in elderly women based on Wilson and Cleary's HRQoL model. Methods: This study analyzed data from the eighth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2019 on 868 women over the age of 65 years. Based on the HRQoL model, parameters were categorized as personal, environmental, and physiological characteristics; symptom status; functional status; and perception of health status. The data were analyzed by quantile regression. Results: The overall level of HRQoL was 0.87. Factors related to HRQoL in the 10% quantile were higher education level, higher economic status, economic activity, more walking days, fewer diseases, lower stress, less activity limitation, and higher perceived health status. Factors related to the 25% quantile of HRQoL were more walking days, fewer diseases, less activity limitation, and higher perceived health status. Factors related to the 50% quantile were age, economic activity, more walking days, fewer disease, lower stress, less activity limitation, and higher perceived health status. Factors related to the 75% quantile of HRQoL were smoking, more walking days, fewer diseases, lower stress, less activity limitation, and higher perceived health status. Conclusion: While differing parameters were identified according to the level of HRQoL of elderly women in Korea, there were five common factors. Interventions that focus on increasing walking, mitigating diseases, stress, and activity limitations, and improving perceived health status can improve HRQoL.

The purpose of this study is to explore the heterogeneity of compensating wage differentials for outdoor workers, under the threat of climate change and heatwave, by region and by wage quantile. This study conducted Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition, multiple regression analysis by region, and unconditional quantile regression analysis using the Korean Working Conditions Survey, which provides individual-level information on the working environment and worker's characteristics. The implications derived from the results of the study are as follows: For most variables, the endowment effect and the price effect were greater for indoor workers, while experience and gender played a role in narrowing the wage gap; The compensating wage differentials for outdoor workers were confirmed to be 2.4% nationwide, depending on the region however, the compensating wage differentials varied from 5 times of national average to nothing statistically significant; The higher the wage quantile, the greater the compensating wage differentials for outdoor workers, and statistically significant monetary compensation was not identified for some low-level outdoor workers. This study is meaningful as an early study that revealed the heterogeneity of compensating wage differentials for outdoor workers and suggested further research on the topic.
In this study, single and multiple linear regression model were used to derive the relationship between precipitation and altitude, latitude and longitude in Jejudo. The single linear regression analysis was focused on whether orographic effect was existed in Jejudo by annual average precipitation, and the multiple linear regression analysis on whether orographic effect was applied to each duration and return period of quantile from regional frequency analysis by index flood method. As results of the regression analysis, it shows the relationship between altitude and precipitation strongly form a linear relationship as the length of duration and return period increase. The multiple linear regression precipitation estimates(which used altitude, latitude, and longitude information) were found to be more reasonable than estimates obtained using altitude only or altitude-latitude and altitude-longitude. Especially, as results of spatial distribution analysis by kriging method using GIS, it also provides realistic estimates for precipitation that the precipitation was occurred the southeast region as real climate of Jejudo. However, the accuracy of regression model was decrease which derived a short duration of precipitation or estimated high region precipitation even had long duration. Consequently the other factor caused orographic effect would be needed to estimate precipitation to improve accuracy.
This study analyzed the influence of domestic and Chinese factors on fine dust(PM10 & PM2.5) in Korea by using the panel quantile regression. Daily analysis was conducted for 11 regions in Korea. For domestic factors, electricity demand and traffic volume, and for Chinese factors, interaction term of Chinese three cities' fine dust and the domestic west wind are used. As a result, the influence of domestic factors was different when the domestic fine dust concentration was high and low. When the fine dust concentration was low, electricity demand had a positive effect only on PM2.5, and didn't affect PM10 in the national analysis. In regional analysis, the amount of electricity demand had a significant effect on fine dust and ultrafine dust only in the capital area and Chungcheong. Electricity demand was found to significantly increase both PM2.5 and PM10 when it was high. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the Chinese factor always had a significant effect regardless of the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of high concentration of fine dust, in addition to international cooperation, the reduction of PM2.5 generated by domestic thermal power generation should also be strengthened compared to the present.
