  • A study was conducted to develop a better classification method of Consumer Attributes that can enhance user-centered product design process. A modified QFD(Quality Function Deployment) survey form based upon Fuzzy set theory was proposed which contains 9 steps of importance level, and Certainty and Necessity function to improve the reliability of extracted consumer attributes. To verify the betterment and advantage of proposed classification method, a series of questionnaire survey was performed. Thirty male and 30 female university students were participated in the survey using a VCR as a target product. The result of the study showed that 80% of subjects were preferred the proposed classification over existing method. A cluster analysis was performed to further verify the betterment of the proposed method. The result also supported that the proposed classification method is more reliable and enhanced method in extracting consumer attributes and can be applied in the product design.

  • Recently automated construction system is attended in construction domains because of the increase of aged workers and the shortage of the experienced. So, the proportion of automated construction in Korea is expected to be getting higher from partially automated robots to full automation systems. However, it is difficult for the automated system to operate flexibly like the human based on various work condition. In the result, the higher the level of automation in the system is, the less efficient the automated system work in the site. So, it's necessary the development component design to compensate for the flexibility shortage of the system. Therefore, this study proposes the development process to component design suitable for automated construction system using QFD technique.

  • According to statistics from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2018, approximately 37% of residential buildings in Korea need to be reconstructed. Due to the rapid growth of the demolition industry, many side effects such as environmental destruction and safety accidents are becoming a problem in the demolition of existing buildings. This study proposes a decision-making process for selecting the most suitable dismantling method for field application by comprehensively considering safety, economic feasibility, and environmental characteristics. In particular, field applicability is evaluated by evaluating risk factors for the selected method. To this end, this study proposes the TOPSIS method for the selection of the dismantling method using the QFD development concept, and the FMEA method as a continuous development process of the selected method.

  • We develop the evaluation method of functional requirements for excavator design. The functional requirement of the product can be deduced from voice of customer. QFD method is used in order to convert customer requirement to functional requirement. The measure of information index is used to evaluate quantitatively the product quality characteristics. The correlation score between customer requirements and functional requirements and benchmarking score of competitors are basic data for the measure of information.

  • In information technology era. importance of female engineers' role is emphasized ever than before. However, relatively few female students have taken engineering as their major in Korea. Furthermore, most of the female engineering students face difficulties due to the lack of their role model. A cyber mentoring system is a very useful system to manage and support such female engineering students in college. In this study, QFD(Quality Function Deployment) is used to find the design factors for effective Cyber mentoring system, that are related to female students' needs. Based on these factors, we use a conjoint analysis to come up with the most favorable Cyber mentoring system. Implementation procedures are given for the continuous quality improvement of the system.

  • Objective: This study introduces user experience measurement and its application for senior friendly products. Background: Measuring user experience for senior friendly product is very important for its design, but the measurement is not easy. Method: This study was focused on case studies for user experience measurement and its application for senior friendly product. Mobile patient lift and four wheeled walker that assist the old's mobility were studied. User experience was measured through interview and observation method. Result: From measuring the user experience, some usability issues were identified for the products. A method to apply QFD(quality function deployment) in design process was proposed. A design prototype was also developed considering user experience. Conclusion: User experience measurement for senior friendly products is key process for user centered design. Application: The method and result of this study can be applied to user experience measurement and design of senior friendly product.

  • Client requirements is a concept with increasing interest in relation to several outcomes of companies, and in particular, in the event of apartment project that takes large share in the domestic construction industry, diverse angle of survey is performed to discover the client requirements and reflect them to the project to improve the quality. For this purpose, it is required to learn the client requirements and apply it in the apartment project, and the QFD (Quality Function Deployment) linked ROQ (Return On Quality) is a technique used in the manufacturing that surveys the client requirements to improve the customer satisfaction, and apply it to the quality improvement program to improve the profitability in this process. In this study, through the application of the ROQ process, the plan to improve the apartment quality management is presented. For this purpose, the consumer interview survey, FGI (focus group interview) survey and the client requirements are analyzed, and thereafter, through the interview with the specialist, the quality improvement program that enables the application to the product development of new apartment product is established. Through this process, the new apartment quality management improvement plan is presented.

  • This study evaluated the importance of technical characteristics in manufacturing street furniture using 3D printing technology to suggest the direction of development of high priority 3D printing technology. The importance was analyzed by the QFD, quantified by scores and the priority of the items was summarized. As a result, the 'output size', 'shrinkage of material', and 'output angle' were derived as technical elements that should be prioritized in development and research. For verification, the design of atypical street furniture was made into a large 3D printed output and the development direction was suggested by applying the technical elements of priority during the manufacturing process. Street furniture should be designed based on functionality and stability, as well as economic efficiency, productivity, and aesthetics. Therefore, the 'output size' ensured stability by minimizing the division of parts, and the 'contractability of materials' satisfied the aesthetic and productivity by minimizing the error of form. Finally, the 'output angle' was verified by improving the quality of the output and selecting an angle with efficient and structural stability through various output angles.

  • In this paper, a system is developed to support multi-attribute decision making for designing light-weight of rolling stock. Conceptual design of light-weight of rolling stock does not only mean reducing weight. It should be considered about some attributes like safety and environment, technology, etc. So technical attributes and needs of customers, manufacturers and management companies, passengers, should be reflected and qualitative evaluation methods are required. AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) and QFD(Quality Function Deployment) are used to decide weighted values of technical attributes and needs from customers. Finally, Alternatives for light-weight of rolling stock that are composed of alternatives of equipment are evaluated by TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). A series of this process are made as a S/W. It could suggest a near-optimal alternative for light-weight of rolling stock.

  • This research aims to develop a procedure that help transform user's feelings or images of a product into the product's design elements. Current approach of product design has focused on providing proper functions of the product. However, as the users' needs get more diversified, it is necessary to accommodate the users' sensitive requirements in product design. The concept called Human Sensibility Ergonomics(HSE). In implementing the HSE, first, it has been surveyed the users' requirements through questionnaires or interviews. Next, has been analyzed the collected data using various statistical analysis technique, resulting in identification of the users' feelings or images of the products.
