Role of Surfaces and Their Analysis in Photovoltaics

  • Surface science is intrinsically related to the performance of solar cells. In solar cells the generation and collection of charge carriers determines their efficiency. Effective transport of charge carriers across interfaces and minimization of their recombination at surfaces and interfaces is of utmost importance. Thus, the chemistry at the surfaces and interfaces of these devices must be determined, and related to their performance. In this talk we will discuss the role of two important interfaces, First, the role of surface passivation is very important in limiting the rate of carrier of recombination. Here we will combine x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the surface of a Si device with electrical measurements to ascertain what factors determine the quality of a solar cell passivation. In addition, the quality of the heterojunction interface in a ZnSe/CdTe solar cell affects the output voltage of this device. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy gives some insight into the composition of the interface, while ultraviolet photoemission yields the relative energy of the two materials' valence bands at the junction, which controls the open circuit voltage of the solar cell. The relative energies of ZnSe and CdTe at the interface is directly affected by the material quality of the interface through processing.

Implementation of Dual Rate G.723 ADPCM Speech codec (16Kbps와 40Kbps의 Dual Rate G.723 ADPCM 음성 codec 구현)

  • In this paper, the implementation of dual rate ADPCM using G.723 16Kbps and 40Kbps speech codec algorithm is handled. For small signals, the low rate 16Kbps coding algorithm shows the same SNR as the high rate 40Kbps coding algorithm, while the low rate 16Kbps coding algorithm shows the lower SNR than the high rate 40Kbps coding algorithm for large signal. To obtain the good trade-off between the data rate and synthesized speech quality, we applied low rate 16Kbps for the small signal and high rate 40Kbps for the large signal. Various threshold values determining the rate are tested for good trade off data rate and speech quality. Also the low pass filter effect of speech input and output devices is simulated at several cut-off frequencies. To simulation result shows the good speech quality at a low rate comparing with 16Kbps & 40Kbps.

A Comparative Study among KPI Developing Methods (핵심성과지표 개발 방법 비교연구)

  • Purpose: There are several KPI(key performance indicators) models: BSC(balanced scorecard), IPOO(Input-process-output-outcomes) indicators, QCDP(quality-cost-delivery-productivity) indicators. This paper analyze these models and gives some suggestions to help the effective usage of KPI. Methods: This paper reviews and summarize the criteria to evaluate the PI(performance indicators) through literature review. Evaluation and analysis on the PI factors of the KPI developing models is performed by the criteria. Results: Criteria to evaluate the PI, which can be used to evaluate the goodness of PI is suggested. This paper also proposes some suggestions for the KPI models and their factors for the effective development of PI in the organization. Conclusion: This research will help the managers to develop and select useful PI and KPI for their business and processes.

  • In the software industry of Korean Small and Medium-sized Enterprise(SME)s, the development process is often not mature. This may lead to failures in quality control and output management. As a result, the quality of the software can be degraded. To solve the problem, the software visualization technique, which is from the National IT Industry Promotion Agency Software Engineering Center can be applied. We have experienced with mentoring not only the visualization of software development process, but also various visualization process of SMEs. However, the existing software visualization method was difficult to install environment and its time cost was high. This paper proposes a software visualization environment through a cloud service along with a case of building a software visualization environment. We expect that this method will make it easier to build a visualization environment and improve the quality of SME software.

Eco-Hydrologic Assessment of Maintenance Water Supply on Oncheon Stream (온천천 유지용수 공급에 따른 생태수문환경 변화분석)

  • The eco-hydrologic effects of maintenance water supply on Oncheon stream are studied using hydrologic, hydraulic and ecologic models. SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) is used for long-term simulation of runoff quantity and water quality from Oncheon stream watershed. Using the output hydrologic variables from SWMM, HEC-RAS (River Analysis System) is then used to simulate the hydraulics of water flow through Oncheon stream channels. Such hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality output variables from SWMM and HEC-RAS are served as input data to execute PHABSIM (Physical Habitat Simulation) for the purpose of predicting the micro-habitat conditions in rivers as a function of stream flow and the relative suitability of those conditions to aquatic life. It is observed from the PHABSIM results that the weighted usable area for target fishes has the maximum value at $2m^3/s$ of instream flow. However, mid and down stream areas that have concrete river bed and covered region are unsuitable for fish habitat regardless of instream flow increment. The simulation results indicate that the simple maintenance water supply is limited in its effect to improve the ecological environment in Oncheon stream. Therefore, it is imperative to improve water quality and to recover habitat conditions simultaneously.

  • Constant airflow should be kept in order to operate a constant-fired boiler of thermal power plants. Main Bearing Assembly Unit which rotates the ventilation fan does very important role to maintain constant airflow. However, the demand to the output of power is getting increased while the quality level of coal is getting worse than the initial level of design criteria. Especially cost wise operation considering increasing output and the difficulty to supply good quality coal drive increasing supply of low quality coal. As a result, the service life of Main Bearing Assembly is getting shorter till 2~3 years which is just a half of the life of original design. In this study, what causes to shorten the service life of Main Bearing Assembly Unit is analyzed through the reverse engineering and analysis and how to improve the service life more than two times to current situation is explained.

  • This study exploited the design of mixture proportion for the high strength concrete to establish the method of the quality control and high strength ready-mixed concrete for the application to the construction filed systematically how to output the estimated formula which could forecast mixture proportion for the high strength concrete classed 40${\sim}$60MPa through a experiment. It might contribute for systematic establishment of the method of the quality control and high strength ready-mixed concrete because it was possessed of the function of common data though a server, preservation and output of data, and estimation for the design of mixture proportion for the high strength concrete due to the experimental result, and Visual Basic, MS-SQL were used. Simply, it was produced corresponding to the condition of a laboratory, so it could be fundamental data for the design of mixture proportion for the high strength concrete. If upgrade is enforced with mixture proportion data of the each factory after then, it may contribute to the stability on quality and manufacture of high strength ready-mixed concrete to agree with the properties of each factory.

A study on the construction of the quality prediction model by artificial neural intelligence through integrated learning of CAE-based data and experimental data in the injection molding process (사출성형공정에서 CAE 기반 품질 데이터와 실험 데이터의 통합 학습을 통한 인공지능 품질 예측 모델 구축에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, an artificial neural network model was constructed to convert CAE analysis data into similar experimental data. In the analysis and experiment, the injection molding data for 50 conditions were acquired through the design of experiment and random selection method. The injection molding conditions and the weight, height, and diameter of the product derived from CAE results were used as the input parameters for learning of the convert model. Also the product qualities of experimental results were used as the output parameters for learning of the convert model. The accuracy of the convert model showed RMSE values of 0.06g, 0.03mm, and 0.03mm in weight, height, and diameter, respectively. As the next step, additional randomly selected conditions were created and CAE analysis was performed. Then, the additional CAE analysis data were converted to similar experimental data through the conversion model. An artificial neural network model was constructed to predict the quality of injection molded product by using converted similar experimental data and injection molding experiment data. The injection molding conditions were used as input parameters for learning of the predicted model and weight, height, and diameter of the product were used as output parameters for learning. As a result of evaluating the performance of the prediction model, the predicted weight, height, and diameter showed RMSE values of 0.11g, 0.03mm, and 0.05mm and in terms of quality criteria of the target product, all of them showed accurate results satisfying the criteria range.

Application of Total Quality Management in Developing Quality Assessment Model: The Case of Vietnamese Higher Education

  • The shift from elite education to mass education in Vietnam has met the demand for education for everybody as well as for quality human resource talent for an emerging nation. Under the resource constraint, understanding the quality dimensions of education and its priority level is important for effective and efficient policies. This study was carried out using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to develop quality criteria and a ranking model. Two rounds of in-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen experts in the field, who were rectors, employers, and recruitment specialists to develop the quality framework applied in Vietnamese universities under total quality management (TQM), starting from the input of the senior secondary school leavers, through a teaching process to the output. The first round of interviews were unstructured questionnaires designed to explore the main factors in quality assessment model. The second round affirmed the experts' agreement on the assessment model. Then, fuzzy logic was applied to rank eight criteria in the quality assessment model into priority order: cost, teaching and administrative staff, leadership, curriculum, student-related factors, internationalization, admissions, and campus. The results are critical for identifying the necessary actions to enhance the education quality and to further research on the optimal quality model.

Performance analysis of a loss priority control scheme in an input and output queueing ATM switch (입출력 단에 버퍼를 가지는 ATM 교환기의 손실우선순위 제어의 성능 분석)

  • In the broadband integrated service digital networks (B-ISDN), ATM switches hould be abld to accommodate diverse types of applications ith different traffic characteristics and quality ddo services (QOS). Thus, in order to increase the utilization of switches and satisfy the QOS's of each traffic type, some types of priority control schemes are needed in ATM switches. In this paper, a nonblocking input and output queueing ATm switch with capacity C is considered in which two classes of traffics with different loss probability constraints are admitted. 'Partial push-out' algorithm is suggested as a loss priority control schemes, and the performance of this algorithm is analyzed when this is adopted in input buffers of the switch. The quque length distribution of input buffers and loss probabilities of each traffic are obtained using a matrix-geometric solution method. Numerical analysis and simulation indicate that the utilization of the switch with partial push-out algorithm satisfying the QOS's of each traffic is much higher than that of the switch without control. Also, the required buffer size is reduced while satisfying the same QOS's.
