Determinants affecting Performance Differences of Korean SME's Subsidiaries in Vietnam (베트남 진출 한국 중소기업의 투자성과 차이를 가져오는 경영관리역량에 대한 사례연구)

  • This study is to understand those determinants of performance differences of Korean small and medium firm's subsidiaries in Vietnam based on the resource based view. We have visited 21 Korean SME's subsidiaries in Hochiminh city area in Vietnam and interviewed CEO of those subsidiaries for 1-2 hours to make each case. Based on case content analysis, we can get those results that eight management capabilities such as securing competent local managers, clear and smooth communication with local employees, establishing good labor-management relations, raising the rate of factory operation and subcontracting, firm specific quality control system, timely financing, establishing good relationships with local communities, and fostering friendly relations with local public officers are major determinants of performance differences. Also we can know that various factors including local experiences in Vietnam have influenced those management capabilities. To be a high performer in Vietnam, foreign subsidiaries of Korean SMEs have to build and develop major management capabilities continuously.

  • Knowledge workers' workload to register knowledge can cause quality defects in the quality as well as the quantity of knowledge that must be accumulated in a knowledge management system(KMS). To enhance the availability of a KMS by acquiring more quality-guaranteed knowledge, autonomous knowledge acquisition which outdoes the automated acquisition must be initiated. Adopting the capabilities of context-awareness and inference in the field of context-aware computing, this paper intends to autonomously identify and acquire knowledge from knowledge workers' daily lives. Based on knowledge workers' context information, such as location, identification, schedule, etc, a methodology to monitor, sense, and gather knowledge that resides in their ordinary discussions is proposed. Also, a prototype systems of the context-based knowledge acquisition system(CKAS), which autonomously dictates, analyzes, and stores dialogue-based knowledge is introduced to prove the validity of the proposed concepts. This paper's methodology and prototype system can support relieving knowledge workers' burden to manually register knowledge, and hence provide a way to accomplish the goal of knowledge management, efficient and effective management of qualified knowledge.

  • Purpose: As an excellent example of ethical management of public enterprises, it provides implications for excellent management strategies through continuous ethical management promotion to domestic public enterprises and general enterprises through case analysis of the Korea Gas Technology Corporation's ethical management system and implementation. Methods: A case analysis was conducted on the ethical management system and implementation of the Korea Gas Technology Corporation, focusing on ethical management, human rights management, and social contribution activities. Results: The Korea Gas Technology Corporation's ethical management case is significant as an example showing the long-term progress and development process of establishing and implementing the ethical management system. Starting with the establishment of a basic plan for ethical management in 2004, the Korea Gas Technology Corporation has continuously advanced its ethical management system and practical capabilities. Through this, it is possible to provide implications to other companies through benchmarking on major implementations at each stage, such as the introduction, institutionalization, settlement, and maturity of the ethical management system. Conclusion: It proposes ethical management execution performance management centered on the performance of each stakeholder, linkage between the ethical management strategy system and the organization's strategy system, classification of related subjects and roles in the ethical management promotion system, and active external communication.

  • It is also difficult for SMEs to pursue their own innovation activities due to their limited resources and capabilities. There are various government support policies for small and medium enterprises to enhance the competitiveness of the nation by improving sustainability management based on productivity improvement of SMEs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that are important for the external support by the government and the related organizations in the machinery industry participating in the industrial innovation movement and identify the appropriate measures within and outside the organization. The results of this study are as follows: First, the higher the innovation commitment quality of the SMEs in the machinery industry, the more positive the non - financial performance. Second, the higher the quality of support from the headquarter, which has comprehensive responsibility for external support, the more positive the non - financial performance of participating companies. Third, it was concluded that the role quality of the consultant did not significantly affect the non - financial performance of participating companies in the machinery industry. Fourth, as the financial performance of the firm is better, the financial performance is also positively improved.

  • Due to the recent mid- to long-term slump and falling growth rates in the global economy, interest in organizational structures that create new products or services as a new alternative to survive and develop in an opaque environment both internally and externally, and enhance organizational sustainability through changes in production methods and business innovation is increasing day by day. In this atmosphere, we agree that the growth of small and medium-sized venture companies has a significant impact on the national economy, and various efforts are being made to enhance the technological innovation capabilities of the members so that these small and medium-sized venture companies can enhance and sustain their performance. The purpose of this study is also to investigate how the technological innovation capabilities of small and medium-sized venture companies correlate with the performance of knowledge management and to analyze the role of network capabilities to organize the strategic activities of enterprise to obtain the resources and organizational capabilities to be used for value creation from external networks. In other words, research was conducted on the impact of technological innovation capabilities of small and medium venture companies on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities as parameters. Therefore, in this study, we would like to verify the hypothesis that innovation capabilities will have a positive impact on knowledge management performance by using network capabilities of small and medium venture companies. Economic activities based on technological innovation capabilities should respond quickly to new changes in an environment where uncertainty has increased, and lead to macro-economic growth and development as well as overcoming long-term economic downturns so that they can become the nation's new growth engine as well as sustainable growth and survival of the organization. In addition, this study was conducted by setting the most important knowledge management performance within the organization as a dependent variable. As a result, R&D and learning capabilities among technological innovation capabilities have no impact on financial performance. In contrast, it was shown that corporate innovation activities have a positive impact on both financial and non-financial performance. The fact that non-financial factors such as quality and productivity improvement are identified in the management of small and medium-sized venture companies utilizing their technological innovation capabilities is contrary to a number of studies by those corporate innovation activities affect financial performance during prior research. The reason for this result is that research companies have been out of start-up companies for more than seven years, but sales are less than 10 billion won, and unlike start-up companies, R&D and learning capabilities have more positive effects on intangible non-financial performance than financial performance. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have a positive (+) impact on both financial and non-financial performance, while R&D and learning capabilities have a positive (+) impact on financial performance by parameters of network capability. Corporate innovation activities have been shown to have no impact on both financial and non-financial performance, and R&D and learning capabilities have no impact on non-financial performance. It could be seen that the parameter effects of network competency are limited to when R&D and learning competencies are derived from quantitative financial performance. Leveraging Accumulated Customer Knowledge in Electronic Knowledge Repositories for Superior Customer Service

  • Customers are now demanding ever better service from customer service representatives (CSRs) to create superior customer service. Accordingly, CSRs are required to have more specialized knowledge and abilities of customer service. This study examines the roles of accumulated customer knowledge in electronic knowledge repositories (EKRs), which a firm has developed for customer service over time to enhance CSRs' work capabilities and work performance, in the context of call centers. To test the proposed research model and hypotheses, we conducted LISREL analysis using 261 responses collected on CSRs working for inbound call centers. The key results are as follows. First, accumulated customer knowledge in EKRs enhances CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise during the customer contact. Second, CSRs' knowledge utilization reinforces service expertise. Finally, service quality depends on CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise, but it is not directly related to accumulated customer knowledge. Overall, the findings suggest that accumulated customer knowledge in EKRs enhances CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise, and thereby leading to superior service quality.

The Quality Performance Management of CMMI in the Era of Industry 4.0 (4차 산업혁명 시대의 CMMI 품질성과관리 연구)

  • Purpose: CMMI is a process model used to assess or improve an organization's software development capabilities. This paper deals with the quality indicators when using CMMI and their priorities for possible improvement. Methods: The 22 process areas and 167 practices of CMMI are matched with 60 indicators of Quality Scorecard(QSC) first to analyze the balance of CMMI in terms of prevention, appraisal, and final result categories and second to isolate a set of key areas for quality focused performance measures. Results: A total of 86.2% (144 out of 167) CMMI practices were mapped to QSC. According to the CMMI level of maturity, level 2 and 3 accounted for more than 75% of the total. The practices at the maturity level of 4 and 5 were mapped to more than 52% of the final result's measurements. It has been observed that CMMI practices need further elaboration at higher levels to consider prevention, appraisal, and final results simultaneously. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality performance of the organization by applying CMMI, the final result measures should be refined in metrics, cycles, and methods, and then corrective actions could be conducted to improve the performance of CMMI practices. This strategy would help the practitioners benefit from CMMI in fostering the overall quality level of key activities for the organization's business goals.

  • The QC circle is a small group organized for accomplishing the company's purpose of improving constitutions of the enterprise, developing the capabilities of the mem-bers and improving human relations. The present study intends to investigate the current situations and problems of the QC circle and to develop most effective models for QC circle movement in Korea. For this purpose the author surveyed 93 QC circles and interviewed more than 20 QC circle members and managers. The author has concluded that it is necessary to: 1. establish the authority and duty of the QC divisions. 2. train the top and middle management, especially the indirect divisions manage-ment. 3. motivate the QC circle members for achieving their purpose.

Measures to Enhance Emergency Management Capacity of Private Security Industry

  • The private security will overcome the limit of public police system and implement a small and efficient government concept. Especially in recent years, this security system has naturally been expanded in its functions from crime prevention to prevention of disasters. To manage the emergency by the private security industry, the private security services to involve some peculiarity and specialty. The policy agenda of private security industry for crisis management are suggested. First of all, to provide quality services for emergency management, the guards from private organizations should receive professional education and training to secure the specialty. Second, we need to improve the quality of security instructors with intensive education system for them. Security instructors should be able to effectively handle lots of different matters in the fields of security, but examination of the current curriculum of education for security instructor indicates that there is not much chance of it. Third, must be natural in light that the private organizations have some limitations in their operational capabilities and scopes. Private security duties are well established in cooperation with related institutions such as the police. Lastly, development of high quality crisis management commodities in the private security becomes even more significant. The government should be determined to make an effort to grow the private industry and foster a political environment for the same purpose.

Six sigma quality program using Cp (공정능력지수를 이용한 6 시그마 활용)

  • The statistical approach to quality control aims at alerting its user to any variations in the properties of a manufactured product. Motorola developed and pursued a quality management program called six sigma. The goal of six sigma programs is to improve customer satisfaction through reducing and eliminating defects. six sigma uses several statistical measure to characterize defect levels and process capabilities. The upper and lower specification limits are $\pm6\sigma$(sigma) from nominal, and the process mean is centered at nominal. only 0.002PPM are outside specification limits. Cp=2. this is the design target in a six sigma program. This article presents an important tool available for quality control of a production process at the occurrence of defects in manufactured products at view low levels to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing productivity and to satisfy customer through the reduction of defect rates. To understand the consequences of the level of quality on competitive position, a more technical perspective is needed.
