  • This paper presents the 3D wavelet based video compression system using quad-tree algorithm. The 3D wavelet based video compression system removes the temporal correlation of the input sequences using the motion compensation filter and decomposes the spatio-temporal subband using the spatial wavelet transform. The proposed system allocates the higher bit rate to the low frequency image of the 3D wavelet sequences and improves the 0.64dB PSNR performance of the reconstructed image in comparison with that of H.263. In addition to the limitation on the propagation of the motion compensation error by the 3D wavelet transform, the proposed system progressively transmits the input sequence according to the resolution and rate scalability.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm to speed up block structure partition of quad tree plus binary tree (QTBT) in Joint Exploration Test Model (JEM) encoder. The proposed fast encoding of QTBT block partition employs three spatially neighbor coded blocks, such as left, top-left, and top of current block, to early terminate QTBT block structure pruning. The propose algorithm is organized based on statistical similarity of those spatially neighboring blocks, such as block depths and coded block types, which are coded with overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and adaptive multi transform (AMT). The experimental results demonstrate about 30% encoding time reduction with 1.3% BD-rate loss on average compared to the anchor JEM-7.1 software under random access configuration.

  • We proposed a semi-blind digital image watermarking technique for copyright protection. The proposed algorithm embedded a binary sequence watermark into significant wavelet coefficients by using a quantization method. The main idea of the quantization method was to quantize a middle coefficient of the triplet of a significant wavelet coefficient according to the watermark's value. Unlike an existing algorithm, which used a random location table to find a coefficient in which the watermark bit will be embedded: the proposed algorithm used quad-tree decomposition to find a significant wavelet coefficient for embedding. For watermark detection, an original host image was not required. Thanks to the usage of significant wavelet coefficients, the proposed algorithm improved the correlation value, up to 0.43, in comparison with the existing algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a watermarking scheme to protect ownership of a digital hologram, an ultra-high value-added content. It performs pre-defined levels of quad-tree Fresnelet transforms. The relationship among the same-positional-blocks is extracted as the digital pre-watermark. For the relationship, we use properties of a digital hologram that a hologram pixel retains all the information of the object and that the same size of partial holograms reconstructs the same size of object but different in their view points. Also we mix a set of private data with the pre-watermark and the result is encrypted by a block cipher algorithm with a private key. Experimental results showed that the proposed scheme is very robust for the various malicious and non-malicious attacks. Also because it extracts the watermarking data instead of inserting, the watermarking process does not harm the original hologram data. So, it is expected to be used effectively for invisible and robust watermark for digital holograms.

  • Wavelet transform has specific properties for image coding. The property used at this Paper is clustering of significant coefficients across subband. These coefficients are classified in significant coefficient and insignificant coefficient on a threshold value, and symbolized EZW decreases symbol-position information using zero-trees, but threshold value fall for raising resolution, then coding cost of significant coefficients is expensive. To avoid this fact, this paper uses quad-tree representing coefficient-position information. a magnitude of significant coefficient is represented on matrix used at EZW. the proposed algorithm is hoped for raising a coding cost.

  • In this paper, a digital watermarking method using the WPT (Wavelet Packet Transform) is proposed. The proposed algorithm transforms the input image by using the WPT and inserts the watermark by using the quad-tree algorithm and Cox's algorithm. The experiments for evaluating the performances of the proposed algorithm is carried out by inserting a watermark in each wavelet packet transform step and by inserting a watermark into the lowest frequency domain (LL). As a simulation result, the performance of the insertion of the watermark into the 6 levels of WPT is better than that of other cases. In addition, about $30{\sim}60%$ of all watermarks are inserted into the LL band, the correlation value is improved though the PSNR performance decreases $1{\sim}2dB$.

  • VariableBlock Matching algorithm is effective for the estimation of motion vector at complexor edge region by means of using variable block size with respect to the image block. But since VBM algorithm requires considerable number of operations, to solve this problem, we present an algorithm which uses difference images and quad tree structure, and estimates motion using various fast block matching algorithms.

  • In the industrial vision systems, image correction has great influence on the overall performance of measurement or inspection. The overall area of distorted image is usually splitted into small control areas, and each area is corrected by its control points. The performance of correction methods using control points can be improved by reduction of control areas because the computational time and memory highly depend on the number of control areas. We develop a merging algorithm that reduces control areas and preserves the correction accuracy. The algorithm merges the splitted control areas by use of quad tree method. Experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • A wavelet-based image compression system allowing both lossless and lossy image compression is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm consists of the two stages. The first stage uses the wavelet packet transform and the quad-tree coding scheme for the lossy compression. In the second stage, the residue image taken between the original image and the lossy reconstruction image is coded for the lossless image compression by using the integer wavelet transform and the context based predictive technique with feedback error. The proposed wavelet-based algorithm, allowing an optional lossless reconstruction of a given image, transmits progressively image materials and chooses an appropriate wavelet filter in each stage. The lossy compression result of the proposed algorithm improves up to the maximum 1 dB PSNR performance of the high frequency image, compared to that of JPEG-2000 algorithm and that of S+P algorithm. In addition, the lossless compression result of the proposed algorithm improves up to the maximum 0.39 compression rates of the high frequency image, compared to that of the existing algorithm.
