Objective : Blepharoptosis is drooping of eyelid which causes impairment of visual field by covering partially or completely, and it is classified into congenital ptosis and acquired one. In western medicine, idiopathic blepharoptosis is usually treated by tarsectomy. Contrary to that concept, we consider eyelid is assigned to Yookryoon(肉輪) among Ohryoon(五輪) which matches to spleen. In oriental medicine, it can be treated by promoting spleen and kidney. Here I report two cases of idiopathic blepharoptosis improved by conservative acupuncture therapy and herb medicine. Methods : The changes in clinical symptoms of general body weakness, anorexia, dizziness, dry eye, etc, in degree of eyelid drooping and in individual expression were described as they were treated with acupuncture therapy, herb medicine, Bojoong-ikgi-tang(補中益氣湯) and some physical therapy including Negative, I.C.T, S.S.P and Carbon. Results : Symptoms(ex) general body weakness, anorexia, dizziness, dry eye, etc) at admission improved and disappeared gradually with acupuncture therapy and herb medicine. The patients could discharge with favorable recovery. Conclusions : In oriental medicine, blepharoptosis is mainly treated by promoting Qihyul(氣血) and enhancing flow of that. If the patient has deficiency of Suhnchun-poomboo(先天稟褓賦) and Mungmoon-hwa(命門火), he is treated by promoting Shin-yang(腎陽). If he is weak in Bee-qi(脾氣), he needs to be treated by strengthening Bee-yang(脾陽) where patient with lack of Ganhyul(肝血) is supposed to be treated by promoting Hyul(血). These following two cases were managed by acupuncture, herb medicine and physical therapy on idiopathic blepharoptosis.
Objectives : It is the object of Qigong therapy to promote the circulation of Qi and blood, and to relieve mentality by way of warming lower Danjon. In this study, to prove that Qigong therapy could actually subside heat on upper or middle Danjon and warm the temperature on lower Danjon, we observed the thermal changes of upper, middle, lower Danjon before and after Qigong therapy and compared them. Methods : We selected 16 patients, treated Qigong therapy and examined by D.I.T.I.(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) before and after Qigong therapy, among patients who visited. Qigong clinic, Kangnam Korean hospital, Kyunghee University(Daechi-2dong, Kangnam-Gu) from april to october, 1999. We watched the difference of temperature among upper, middle, lower Danjon before and after Qigong therapy, and used student T-test(paired type, 2 tail) for proving effects of Qigong therapy statistically. Conclusions 1. The difference of temperature$({\Delta}T)$ between upper(Ex-HN3) and lower Danjon(CV4) significantly decreased about $0.55^{\circ}C$ after Qigong therapy(p<0.01). 2. The difference of temperature${\Delta}T$ between middle(CV17) and lower Danjon(CV4) significantly decreased about $0.39^{\circ}C$ after Qigong therapy(p<0.05). 3. The difference of temperature${\Delta}T$ between upper(Ex-HN3) and middle Danjon(CV17) decreased about $0.25^{\circ}C$ after Qigong therapy, but it was not statistically significant.
Previously two papers dealing with YoungSu(against the meridian course and following the course of the meridian) Acupuncture were published by our group. Here we are reporting the further analysis of YoungSu and WonBang(by twisting and rotating the needle) acupuncture methods. It is very important to understand objectively the Qi variation induced by the reinforcing-reducing manipulation method in the acupuncture therapy. We decided the medical treatment by utilizing the PyongChi Method (a kind of method to figure out the way of treatment by observing the unbalanced state of five phases). The Qi variation in the meridian treated by YoungSu and WonBang, the recovery of five phases deviation were measured by choosing single acupoint instead of complex acupoints. By using Youngsu and WonBang, we increased or decreased the Qi of the phase which caused the unbalanced state. We observed whether the Qi of the treated meridian can be increased and if the state of unbalance can be recovered. To achieve the effect of reinforcing-reducing, we needed a correct choice of treating method and a selection of a proper meridian in advance. This study was carried out by adding another way of acupuncture from the previous paper. We discovered that the effects of reinforcing-reducing by each manipulation method could be superposed each other when two counteracting Youngsu and WonBang methods were treated at the left and the right side of human body which was correspondent with our previous paper. We found that the Qi variation of the treated meridian, which was induced by Youngsu and WonBang, was linearly proportional to the reduction of five phase deviations. The slope of Qi variation was almost similar (y = -0.413x - 0.138) as that of previous paper (y = -0.266x - 0.038, Y = -0.446x - 0.079). It is assumed that the addition of other basic methods on the top of reinforcing-reducing manipulation method would magnify the effect of acupuncture.
Objectives : Acupuncture therapy's reinforcement and reduction method is now widely used in the clinical practices. Meanwhile, there has been a voice of concern since the past that acupuncture has no reinforcement. This thought has not been given enough discussion, and the paper attempts to remedy this absence and verify the validity of the concern. Methods : The acupunctural reinforcement and reduction method found in the Huangdineijing is reviewed, and a number of medical books that discuss the idea of lack of reinforcement in acupuncture are studied. Results : Huangdineijing describes the acupunctural unique feature of reduction. The text explains that acupuncture work in a way that is different that medicine, and thus cannot be used for a disease based on deficiency. In addition, it warned the loss of the primordial qi when needling oneself. Reinforcement in the reinforcement and reduction technique as described in Huangdineijing mainly revolves around preventing the loss of the primordial qi. Conclusions : The purpose of the acupunctural reinforcement and reduction is to control the body's disproportional qi deficiency and excess, where some parts of the body has more qi than others. The reinforcement in "acupunctural reinforcement and reduction method" and the reinforcement in "acupuncture only has reduction and no reinforcement" within the thought of "acupuncture has no reinforcement" are different in that one deals with controlling the imbalance of qi in body, and the other deals with dispelling the deficiency by flowing the qi in the viewpoint of entering and out. This calls for a need to establish the proper acupunctural points, numbers, and times for each disease based on the theory of "acupuncture has no reinforcemen."
'Ul-zeong' comes from obsturction of qi by stress. The mind affect the body. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, costral pain, angry state or some strange feeling on the throat. $'Y{\acute{i}}q{\acute{i}}ngbi{\grave{a}}nq{\grave{i}}'$ is a psychological therapy that a doctor changes the patient ' s psychological condition by using various method. 'yi' means moving, 'qing' means changing. Art therapy means a therapy by using artistic activities and included in $'y{\acute{i}}q{\acute{i}}ngbi{\grave{a}}nq{\grave{i}}'$ In this case, a female patient, 35 years old, who suffered from 'ul-zeong' with depressed mood, anxiety, general body weakness, anorexia, constipation. We used $'y{\acute{i}}q{\acute{i}}ngbi{\grave{a}}nq{\grave{i}}'$ besides herbal medication, acupuncture to her and her condition got improved. Therefore we reported it for the treatment.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate clinical characteristics with 25 patients who have suffered from headache and were treated. Methods : We classified 25 patients into several groups by IHS classification and evaluated the effects of oriental medical therapy on headache. Results : 1. According to the statistics, instances of migraine were more prevalent than tension headache, especially among women. 2. 28% of patient had entered for treatment within one month of onset. 3. Common associated symptoms included dizziness, nausea, dyspepsia, palpitation and insomnia. 4. In classification by the oriental medical differentiation of symptoms and signs, the rate of stagnation of the humid dam and deficiency of qi, these two types were highest. 5. 56% of patients said they were satisfied with the treatment, reporting half the frequency of headache or better from before treatment. Conclusions : The present results suggest that oriental medical therapy has effects on headache. Further clinical comparative studies on herb-medication versus acupuncture therapy for headache are urged.

Acute Mastitis(急性乳腺炎=乳癰) is an acute suppurative disease appearing in the breast. It is mostly caused by galactostasis, the stagnation of liver-qi(肝鬱) and stomach-heat(胃熱). It is mostly found in breast feeding women, mostly in primiparae. It usually appears in the third and the fourth weeks of postpartum. At the beginning in the chest there appear induration, distending pain, galactostasis, inversion to cold with fever followed by the enlargement of the masses, burning red, megalgia, not subduing of chills and fever, the accumulation of it to form pus. In the early phase it is advisable to follow the therapeutic principles of soothing the liver and clearing away heat, promoting lactation and subduing swelling. After the formation of pus it is advisable to cut radially and drain the pus. External Therapy(外治法) generally refers to all the methods to treat various diseases and symptoms with application of drugs and manipulation or together with proper instruments on the body surface except the method of taking medicine orally Acute Mastitis has been regarded as surgery or the method of taking medicine orally But, based on many bibliographies, acute mastitis was treated by external therapy. Thus through the historical bibliographic studies of external therapy about acute mastitis, this study was made to help the expanding of the methods of treating acute mastitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a 67-year-old male patient with Herpes zoster(caseI) and a 38-year-old female patient with Herpes zoster(caseII), whose symptoms were relieved after Korean medicine treatment alone. Methods : Both patients took Yeonryeonggobondan and Pyungwee-san daily. Everytime they came to the hospital, they received acupuncture treatment, Hwidam's Su-Gi therapy and External Gigong Therapy. Acupuncture was applied by gall bladder seunggyeok(膽勝格, GB-), spleen jeonggyeok(脾正格, SP+), large intestine seunggyeok(大腸勝格, LI-) of Saam's Acupuncture Method. Hwidam's Su-Gi therapy was applied on neck. External Gigong Therapy was applied on skin lesion area. the patients' symptoms were evaluated with photographs and VAS. Results : The results were as follows: 1. In the case of a 67-year-old male patient, it took 14 days to recover the skin lesions and to reduce the pain after treatment started. And he visited 13 times during that period. 2. In the case of a 38-year-old female patient, it took 23 days to recover the skin lesions to reduce and the pain after treatment started. And she visited 10 times during that period. 3. Intensive treatment early in treating herpes zoster helped to shorten the treatment period. 4. Taking Yeonryeonggobondan and Pyungwee-san and receiving acupuncture treatment(SP+) can help to improve immunity and recover skin lesions in herpes zoster diagnosed with spleen deficiency with dampness encumbrance(脾虛濕困) and blood stasis due to qi stagnation (氣滯血瘀). 5. The combination of acupuncture treatment(GB-) and External Gigong Therapy was effective in controlling pain. 6. External Gigong Therapy is considered to be effective for the recovery of the skin as well as the pain of the herpes zoster. Conclusions : Korean medicine treatment alone has a great effect on the above two patients with herpes zoster. I hope the active research about Korean medicine treatment will be done not only for herpes zoster but also for various intractable pain diseases.
The purpose of this article is to review all the wrinkle treatments reported so far, and to introduce a method of dermal subcision, especially localized fine wrinkles. In order to remove wrinkles, laser, ulthera and drug therapy are commonly used in western medicine while Miso facial rejuvenation acupuncture, $Jung-An$ acupuncture and needle-embedding therapy are used in oriental medicine. However, as researches on fine wrinkles have been insufficiently conducted until now. Dermal subcision stated in this study is considered to be a safe and effective way to ameliorate fine linear-shaped wrinkles around or below eyes and mouth by increasing the circulation of qi and blood. also, reproducing dermal layer. More and further related cases and researches are expected in the future.
Radiotherapy is an important part of modern cancer management for many malignancies, and enhancing the radiosensitivity of tumor cells is critical for effective cancer therapies. The Notch signaling pathway plays a key role in regulation of numerous fundamental cellular processes. Further, there is accumulating evidence that dysregulated Notch activity is involved in the genesis of many human cancers. As such, Notch inhibitors are attractive therapeutic agents, although as for other anticancer agents, they exhibit significant and potential side effects. Thus, Notch inhibitors may be best used in combination with other agents or therapy. Herein, we describe evidence supporting the use of Notch inhibitors as novel and potent radiosensitizers in cancer therapy.
