  • In this paper, tangram-like puzzles which are made by dissecting square are introduced. Especially, tangram-like puzzles which are consists of five pieces, six pieces, seven pieces, eight pieces, nine pieces, ten pieces, twelve pieces, fourteen pieces are introduced. But, This Introduction is very superficial. It means introduction is focused on each piece's geometrical shape, relative area when each tangram-like puzzles' area is one. With this introduction, six tangram-like puzzles' implication in mathematics education are suggested as followings. (1) Tangram-like puzzles may help fostering spatial senses. (2) Tangram-like puzzles may help teaching polygons, and its properties, congruences, similarities, etc. (3)Tangram-like puzzles may help teaching additions of fractions. (4) Tangram-like puzzles may help fostering mathematical thinking. (5) Tangram-like puzzles may serve as topics for supplement or reinforcement in teaching and learning tangram. (6) Tangram-like puzzles may serve as topics for problem posing in teaching and learning tangram.

  • In this study we tried to find the method of using the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles together for learning the elementary geometry in the Korean primary schools. The tangram and the mosaic puzzle activity-panels were developed and the activity-cards for them also were designed. The criteria to be used for the analyses of contents of the activity-cards were developed. We surveyed and analyzed the students' responses, A previous research had insisted that solely using the tangrams were not useful in learning about an obtuse-angled triangle in the elementary geometry (Welchman, 1999), but the combinative uses of the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles were found to extend the limits of the previous study in investigating the figures of the plain diagrams. Actually, the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles helped the students to learn the concepts of several elements of the plain diagrams such as 'angles', 'sides', and 'angular points', with students'operational comparison of the diagrams developed with them. They also provided useful clues in learning the relationship between the 'length' and the 'area' of the Plain diagrams. The students participated in the class with much activities, using the operational learning materials. They also comprehended the concepts and the principles of the elementary geometry more thoroughly, expressing their ideas in spoken or written languages through interactive communication. In conclusion, the tangram and mosaic puzzles can be used for learning the elementary geometry of the primary school level as motivative learning materials, helping students enhance diverse mathematical thinking and discover mathematical principles.

  • According to whether language symbols are used to solve puzzles, puzzle games can be roughly divided into puzzle games with language symbols and puzzle games without language symbols. Puzzles games with language symbols can be subdivided into dialogue puzzles games and word puzzles games. These different puzzle-solving methods have different characteristics and have different effects on the empathy in the game. In horizontal scrolling games, due to the characteristics of the third-person perspective of horizontal scrolling games, there is always a 'fourth wall' between the player and the controlled character, making it difficult for players to gain a empathy when playing such games .Especially when there is a dialogue between a player-controlled character and an NPC, the sense of distance between the player and the character will be further amplified. As one of the most common game types in side-scrolling games, side-scrolling puzzle games can be divided into language symbols-based puzzle game and non-language symbols-based puzzle game according to whether language symbols are used to solve puzzles, and then promote the development of the game plot. We combine the characteristics of horizontal scrolling games, and analyze the influence of language symbols on empathy in puzzle-solving games by summarizing the game characteristics of two different puzzle-solving methods. The results show that in horizontal scrolling puzzle games, solving puzzles without using language symbols can better expand the player's sense of plot substitution.

  • This paper aims to present solutions to three intriguing puzzles on causation that Benardete presents by considering the results of infinite series of telescoping events. The main conceptual tool used in the solutions is the notion of collective causation, what many events cause collectively. It is straightforward to apply the notion to resolve two of the three puzzles. It does not seem as straightforward to apply it to the other puzzle. After some preliminary clarifications of the situation that Benardete describes to present the puzzle, however, we can apply the notion to resolve it as well.

  • Puzzles of various types were made of wood. Children aged 3 to 5 were play directly into a wooden puzzle, then, mainly in adults, the survey was conducted. Comparisons of affinity for the children, teachers, parents, survey were compared with the rating. As a result, the preferred material of the puzzle was in the timber. The type of puzzle children, teachers and parents preferred picture puzzle. For colors, teachers and parents of the puzzle as unpainted wood was preferred. In addition, the favorite play was the difference in difficulty and number puzzles. Therefore, the preference for children and adults aware of the puzzle with a big difference has been clearly identified.
