  • In order to improve the luminous efficiency in ac PDP(Plasma Display Panel), we have suggested the new structures of sustain electrodes with waffle-type barrier ribs and the discharge current for a given pulse voltage has been decreased by eliminating the electrode area which has nothing to do with visible light emission area compared with conventional structure. As a result, the luminous efficiency was improved about 30% compared with the conventional structure.

  • In order to clarify the impact of emissions reductions on the air quality over Metropolitan area of Korean Peninsula, several numerical experiment and analysis of integrated process rate(IPR) of ozone were carried out. Numerical models used in this study are WRF for the estimate the meteorological elements and CMAQ for assessment of ozone concentration. As result in the sensitive test of VOC/NOx reduction experiments, although VOC reduction tends to induce the different impact on the advection and photochemical reaction rate of ozone in urban area and rural area, the mechanism of ozone appeared to be more sensitive to the reduction of VOC than that of NOx over the metropolitan and its surround area. So the control of VOC emission inventories is an effective means to decrease the ozone concentrations around this area.

  • Objective : Subsidence is a frequent complication of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Postoperative segmental micromotion, thought to be a causative factor of subsidence, has been speculated to increase with uncinate process resection area (UPR). To evaluate the effect of UPR on micro-motion, we designed a method to measure UPR area based on pre- and postoperative computed tomography images and analyzed the relationship between UPR and subsidence as a proxy of micro-motion. Methods : We retrospectively collected clinical and radiological data from January 2011 to June 2016. A total of 38 patients (53 segments) were included. All procedures included bilateral UPR and anterior plate fixation. UPR area was evaluated with reformatted coronal computer tomography images. To reduce level-related bias, we converted UPR area to the proportion of UPR to the pre-operative UP area (pUPR). Results : Subsidence occurred in 18 segments (34%) and positively correlated with right-side pUPR, left-side pUPR, and the sum of bilateral pUPR (sum pUPR) (R=0.310, 301, 364; p=0.024, 0.029, 0.007, respectively). Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that subsidence could be estimated with the following formula : $subsidence=1.522+2.7{\times}sum\;pUPR$($R^2=0.133$, p=0.007). Receiver-operating characteristic analysis determined that sum $pUPR{\geq}0.38$ could serve as a threshold for significantly increased risk of subsidence (p=0.005, area under curve=0.737, sensitivity=94%, specificity=51%). This threshold was confirmed by logistic regression analysis for subsidence (p=0.009, odds ratio=8.471). Conclusion : The UPR measurement method confirmed that UPR was correlated with subsidence. Particularly when the sum of pUPR is ${\geq}38%$, the possibility of subsidence increased.

  • Yersinia pseudotuberculosis, a gram-negative coccobacillus, is a member of the enterobacteriaceae family, and the illness has fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, mesenteric lymphadenitis, terminal ileitis, arthropathy, erythema nodosum. Specially in children, it is known as an important cause of acute renal failure due to acute tubulointerstitial nephritis. It has been recognized in a worldwide distribution. For the first time, the cases of acute renal failure caused by this organism were reported in Japan in 1980's. In Korea, the first case accompanying with ARF was reported in 1988. Since that, many cases have been reported in Seoul area, but no case in other places. So we report 2 cases of Y.P. infection accompanying with ARF in Pusan area, for the first time in other place than Seoul area.

  • We analyzed the low wall-shear stress area in the intracranial aneurysm that occurred at an anterior communicating artery with a special emphasis on vortical structures close to the wall. We reconstructed the aneurysm model from patient CTA data. We assumed blood as an incompressible Newtonian fluid and treated the blood vessel as a solid wall. The pulsatile boundary condition was applied at the inlet of the anterior cerebral artery. From the instantaneous flow field, we computed the histogram of the wall-shear stress over the aneurysm wall and found the low wall-shear stress event (< 0.4 Pa). This extreme event was due to the low wall-shear stress area that occurred at the daughter sac. We found that the merging of two vortices induced the low wall-shear stress area; one arises from the morphological characteristics of the daughter sac, and the other is formed by a jet flow into the aneurysm sac. The latter approaches the daughter sac, which ultimately leads to the strong ejection event near the daughter sac.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the definite method for pitting damaged surfaces. Pitting is a sort of fatigue damages and it is made by a repetitive load. For a judgment between damages or not, sensing vibrations of test equipment is simple. However, it is not only difficult to observe a growth of pitting but also impossible to detect the juncture of initial pitting. Therefore, a method for the pitting damaged area measuring technique was effectively implemented by Two Roller Machine. The change of surface damaged area was measured by an optical microscope in regular time and calculated by the use of dark and bright ratio of test specimens' pictures taken by optical microscope. In conclusion, S - N Curves gained by Failure rate - Cycle graph was led and the curves are able to be chosen as occasion demands for a failure area percentage.

  • The factors influencing long-term prognosis of teeth must be carefully considered. Among these, attachment level is strongly associated with tooth loss. The purpose of the present study was to estimate pattern of attachment loss based on attachment area in extracted teeth. 197 satisfied the criteria for assessment after staining. The protocol described by Waerhaug(l975) was performed. An indir ect method, based on digital image abstracted from digital camera and digital imaging software program, was used to calculate the root surface area and the attachment loss area. The data were analysed using SPSS. Except maxillary central incisior and mandibular canine, no statistical significant differences between each root surfaces were observed in anterior teeth. In posterior teeth, statistical significant differences in palatal surface of maxillary molar and mandibular molar compared with others were observed. Statistical significant difference in buccal surface compared with others was lowly observed in single and multi rooted. This study did not reveal progressive loss pattern of attachment area in each root surface but clarified root surface that has relative high loss rate of attachment area at extraction. Thus understanding this pattern of attachment loss is helpful for dentist to treat the periodontitis.

  • This research was described the prevention of coastal topographical change and sediment diffusive concentration incoming from small estuary after construction jetties. This structure is constructed to decrease sediment deposition incoming from the upstream river due to the urbanization and industrial development and to minimize effects on the coastal ecosystem. The physical modeling and numerical modeling for waves were conducted to analyze the configuration of Imrang sand beach deformation without and with construction of jetty. The specification of the installed jetty, which is able to control sedimentation concentration was decided based on the prediction of the Imrang beach area changes by space and time. As a result, the jetties constructed in the estuary retarded the rate of sand sediment, so that the effect area of sand sedimentation was obviously decreased. In addition, the measured field data indicated that the sediment deposition inside of dikes could be controlled and the right side area of jetties could be preserved without sediment deposition.
